Plan to get to premier league? Maybe a clue in there somewhere. Er no it gives no idea about next years budget at all. DE's plan when he came in was to get the club to the Championship and he has worked towards that. Sartori's father in law has done pretty well in Monaco on a budget well below most of the big clubs they have competed within the CL (what they have done is to develop young players). So when you suggest that 'the size of budget he was talking about' , that is pure absolute speculation and nowhere did he remotely give an idea of the budget? Size of potential Sartori budget is of course speculation but surely it would have been a bigger budget than what DE can offer? Is that not a reasonable assumption?

I dare say the Argentinian season the playing and staff budget was massive, but it is how much u put in not how much u have. That was the trouble wth fk and il. Once they stopped putting the money in, or rather being happy to spend it

eales has said he couldn't support us in the Championship, so why would his plan still include trying to get us to that stage. Is that a serious question?! Meaning he is then faced with a he problem. Does he then kick himself for passing up the Sartori offer?
It will be very interesting over the next couple of weeks. With the season a few weeks away, the budget that Pep has been given, how thinly will he have to spread it, to bring in the 6/7 players needed to get the squad to a decent size. He said this seasons budget would be bigger than last, a top 6 budget was hoped for.
There is no reason to doubt what the chairman said budget wise.

Broken record fella!!! How many times can you say the same old rubbish before even you get bored? I bet you get bored of reading it before he gets even remotely close to saying it. Guaranteed. In my opinion Darryl should have never made reference to a top 6 budget for one simple reason - how could he possibly know how much that is? Clubs don't write a number of a piece of paper and say "what you got?". And using last seasons figure is a useless point of comparison. So while I'm certain Darryl intended the message to be a positive one, it was perhaps a little naive on his part. He should have just said improved and/or competitive. It would still be positive, while at the same time much harder to be twisted and used against him. That's my 2 pennies worth.

So many people have twisted what was said that the message was lost a long time ago but the intention was undoubtedly positive. It is all entirely meaningless anyway. The top 5 budgets could be £3m+ and we could be 6th best at £1.5m but be less competitive than if the top 8 teams had budgets of £1.6m and we were 100k behind in 9th. It is a pointless argument perpetuated by idiots.

He absolutely stated he hoped to be able to provide a top 6 budget. He didn't promise it, like some people have wrongly claimed, but that's what he aspired to be able to provide for the upcoming season. My point was that he should have not mentioned it whatsoever - mainly because he could have not possibly known how much a top 6 budget would be, but also don't plant that seed in people's heads either. Now, like I said, I'm certain it was intended to be positive. Maybe he never imagined what he thought was a positive message would be twisted in such a way, but if he had just kept things simple in the first place - by saying improved/increased/competitive - it wouldn't have become a constant point of contention on here. "For me, it's about giving Michael the best budget that I can to make us competitive," Eales said. Oxford finished eighth in the table and reached the EFL Trophy final at Wembley for the second year running. A busy campaign in league and cup also saw them reach the FA Cup fifth round, knocking out higher league opposition in Rotherham and Newcastle United. "I think our playing budget this season was the eighth or ninth-highest in League One from the statistics we can get from the EFL," Eales told BBC Radio Oxford. " I'd like to see if we can get into the top-six budget. We would probably never be able to get into the top three as there's certain clubs who are on a different planet from our perspective.

An unbelievable distortion of what DE has said, again and again Ragamuffin. Some people try to hide their agenda's, you clearly don't. You sunshine, are like a sniper without a gun and only a vague idea of the target who shouts his presence with the grace of a herd of psychotic elephants. But just keep taking yourself seriously whilst the rest of us laugh at your facile efforts.

The statement from DE is 100% clear. A budget that would be better than 8th or ninth, not top three, what does that leave? If that does not concur with your opinion, so be it. It is academic at best. But, your constant belittling of other opinions on here is becoming very tiresome. You say "An unbelievable distortion of what DE has said" how is that? A rather sweeping statement to make. "the rest of us laugh at your facile efforts" I, for one, am not laughing. I too have concerns along similar lines to Ragnar. And, there are others. Your opinion, fine, but don't keep on as though you were the forums sole opinion, please.

Can all the DE knockers (this is about budget nothing else) answer me this ? Pep Clotet is obviously well regarded at the clubs he has been at. Leeds fans especially were upset he wasn't given a shot at the job at Elland road. His first job in (senior)management is the biggest risk he is likely to take in his career. Do you really think if DE had said "actually, theirs no money, you will have to make do with what you have got"(or even a bottom half League 1 budget) He would have signed up for the gig ?

Your opinion, fine, but don't keep on as though you were the forums sole opinion, please. Even in your post that is apparently 100% clear, you are unable to define our budget position. DE said that he would increase the playing budget this year. If last season it was £1.4m and this year it is £1.6m then wouldn't that be true? DE said that this would be competitive. Would you agree that this type of investment, would make us competitive? He said he HOPED that this would be in the top 6 budgets but wouldn't be near the very top spending teams. Would you agree that this was a fair estimation? And finally, the difference at this level between the 5th and 6th biggest budgets and those at 7, 8 or 9 is probably minimal. Would it be so bad if, despite increased investment and commitment to succeed, other teams spent marginally more? You and others are fixated on TOP 6 as if it was promised, or indeed, actually means anything.

Steady on manorlonunger, apart from the rank presumption of the fellow it's ironic that history is usually re-written by the winners. Evidently winning some childish debate on here is more important to gofish and our frien scotchegg than the future of the club, since the club has hardly won in this debacle.
The entire forum will applaud them for winning. [One hand clapping.]

P.S.I take it Elmes is some funny name (to you) that you have invented for the chairman of the club you (are supposed to)support ?

Same way I agree he'll have promised Clotet a 'decent budget' or some form of words that can't be pinned down. Re: Elmes: as I, like your good self, am always bent on avoiding offence I am avoiding referring to His Lubricity as "Slippery"; there's a thread about slippery elm somewhere or you can google it, it's good for IBS.

DE- "pep, I won't be at your press conference cos I don't want to face any awkward questions but if anyone mentions budgets, don't tell them it's crap, just say it's competitive."
Get real everyone, Pepsi would not have come here to have no resources at his disposal. All will be revealed soon enough by the players in at the start of the season, we will all know then roughly what the budget is.

I thought that Eales original statement was carefully worded to say it was a competitive budget without saying it was top six. It's then down to the manager and team to outperform .
