Campbell previously played for Darlington, scoring five times and will give United boss Chris Hargreaves an exciting new option in the forward department.
"It is a really important time of the season for the club and we have to use all available resources to ensure that the squad is strong going into the next few months,” said Kelvin Thomas from Torquay United.
Nostalgia-tastic!

Sorry I'm a bit late with this contribution but I watched John Campbell quite closely at Hartlepool and he seemed to be well off the pace of the game. Reminded me of Tom Craddock in that he often found himself standing in positions that might have been half decent if any of his teammates had noticed him and tried to get the ball to him - but they didn't. In contrast you couldn't help but notice that Marlon Harewood was putting himself about very effectively at our end. MApp replaced Campbell with John Meades just after half time and from then on we looked much more like scoring. I doubt we will see him in the first team again unless it's in the Conference.
To be fair wasn't that his first game with us? Quite hard to expect a new player from non league to adapt so quickly to a new team and division!

Didn't quite pan out how he wanted. Lost 3-0 at home.

He's not getting much game time, came on in 85th min yesterday, in all his games he's had one assist and mostly been sitting on the bench.

As the stars align I found myself back in my home town today and, with the sun out and a beer or two in town behind us, a mate of mine and myself decided to venture to the Turnbull Ground to witness the home debut of John Campbell for Whitby Town.
Kick off and the ball gets passed to the left back. JC looks for the channel and gets a ball over the top to run onto. Gets caught in a divot and twists his ankle. And on comes the sub after four minutes...all of 25 seconds action for our Geordie hero.
Had a word with him afterwards as he hobbled by. His comment "gutted, I'd have scored a load against this lot". Given that the score was 3-2 in the end hard to disagree!

Didn't know that was where JC had ended up. Very impressed with some of the pubs there.

When I was growing up tourists were treated as cash cows without a thought for trivial things like return trade. Now there are some nice bistros dotted among loads of pubs and shop space is at a premium. It's really very nice to see.
