www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31500592I'm a bit confused! Since when did Campbell come back to us and how can we have a player that isn't ours and loan him to Torquay? I think the BBC have been doing some of their best research in lower league football again and got this a bit wrong. Torquay have nothing on their website about any deal.

OUFC have never reported he left. I noticed he was on the programme when we last ran out at home to Luton. Who knows what's going on?

Ox Mail saying it as well. I think he's p*ssed someone off at the club so they're sending him as far away from his family as possible.
If it is on loan from us or Jarrow who knows...

This is really weird. I guess he has joined Torquay from Jarrow Roofing after we didn't decide to keep him, but somewhere down the line the BBC still think he is on our books.
If we had signed him permanently this would have been a good move. Sign him, loan him out to play regular professional football if he excels we have him for next season...

The club as confirmed he has gone out on twitter. Must still be our player!

I don't know why we don't offer him a year or 18 month permanent deal. Send him on loan to the conference until the end of the season and let him have a full pre season with us and a real shot at it next season. Of course I'm assuming he would be on a cheap deal. It's not his finishing he will need to work on. He will need to develop his touch, vision and reading of the game. Now off to buy a lottery ticket......

Considering all of the good PR the club have undertaken, it seems odd they didn't confirm Campbell had signed. Especially when he went back to Jarrow. Still, he will get games and that is good for us I suppose.

Still, he will get games and that is good for us I suppose. Is it? According to the Torquay website, the loan is for the rest of the season. And I think we signed him up for the rest of the season, didn't we? So have we paid £10,000 for a player who will never play for us again? Seems extremely odd to me.

It allows us to see him play games. Better than sitting on the bench and playing in Dev Games and not learning much at all.

The article says we can choose whether to pay in the summer. So we haven't paid 10k for anyone, yet. If we don't want to take him on we will send him back and not pay a penny.

I'll admit to being confused, these revolving doors move in mysterious ways. Good for the player, even better if there's a recall clause (given he seems to be on loan from OUFC) to provide cover for injuries to our current / future squad?

Probably a good solution to a very messy process.

Im sure theres a logical explanation for all of this but it is very strange.
"Campbell signed a two-year deal with Oxford in November, although the Gazette understands there is a clause giving Roofing first option on the player should United choose not to retain him in the summer."
So why did he go back to the North East a while ago?
Why when Appleton was asked about it last week did he say in an exasperated tone he had "no idea what was going on with that one...with Jarrow or the player"

Why would we sign him on a 2 year deal, only to release him in the summer

Looks like a good question for Ashton!
Could it be that the Jarrow contract is different from a pro contract and he somehow had to serve a period of notice before he could join us for nothing?
