A very very good source of mine said he's been offered the job. I don't know if personal terms have/will be agreed (and things fall apart last minute more than you'd think) but I am 90% sure this is a done deal now.

Mind you, this does remind of a cracking story I heard about 10 years ago. A L1/CH job was down to two candidates A and B. There was very little to choose between them, except A wanted twice the salary of B. B gets the nod, so A is rang first by the chairman to tell him he hasn't got it. So A, who is desperate to be back in a job, offers to work for next to nothing, his higher pay all coming in the form of bonuses if he achieves well. The greedy chairman changes his mind then and there on the phone and offers him the job!
A was sacked 6 months after, by the way!

If it helps us get Tony Martinez back for the season then I'm all in favour. His track record as a Manager is not sensational but then nor was Michael Appleton's.

We all know ur source is oxbible I have no interest in getting him or me sacked, so all I can say is no, and I have no reason to doubt him. All I can say is: - Personal terms can be a pain, as Leeds will no doubt he paying him more - He may get a last minute better offer (he can and has worked across Europe remember) - I would be very pleased if he land him.

Where's Oxbible? He should be here, as he predicted all this or was told by someone very much itk. Could be in detention for spreading porkies. Or repeating porkies from his thousands of followers.

I mean, there will be ballpark figures that are fired around by the agent chatting to the club, and the agent seeing what's comparable in L1. But no, never. It's all about how much you can get from a club, how bad you want the job, and who's willing to back down first (looking at you Chris Maguire, king of brinkmanship). It's also, never discussed chairman to manager (unless it's very low level), it all runs through the agent. A good agent, is really worth the money!

I have no inside knowledge and am only going by what you lot are saying about it essentially being a done deal - mostly based upon the betting, though there is always the possibility that someone is in the know* - but it all sounds pretty promising.
I'm keen to welcome the man in, and am enjoying the attempts (some far worse than others...bazzer...) at writing chants for his name. However, if it's not him I'll be just as willing to welcome the new bloke and re-immerse myself just as passionately into chant composition (anyone know any traditional Dutch chants??). Just as long as it's not another Graham Rix.
*Serious, where the hell is OxBible??

Thought the candidate would ask that in the interview, wouldn't be nice if your manager turns up on day 1 and pops into the chairmans office and says " what's my budget" to which the chairman replies " ha ha ha ha ha "

I was, my point being surely a few applicants may pull out if budgets or how much freedom they are given don't meet their expectations/ambition. So wondered if this sort of thing is given them at interview in like a job description, or discussed with their own terms once the board decided their favourite candidate

I get the impression oufcyellows was referring to the actual playing budget? You are quite right, apologies I completely misread the question! Sorry. Budgets, yes they are discussed. Candidates usually sign a NDA, so they can't talk about the details elsewhere, then the conversation is usually something along the lines of: 'Our current wage bill is £xxx a week, the budget is £xxx a week, do with that what you will. I shall sanction transfer fees of up to £xxx, fees above that will be on a case by case basis. You can re-invest x% of transfer fees for any players sold. Your staffing/support budget is £xxx it's currently £xxx. Any special requests that you feel that you feel you would need to do your job (particular coaches, scientists, scouting needs etc.) - now is the time to raise them. Any incoming transfer requests I shall leave you your judgement, up to the value of £xxx. Over £xxx it becomes a joint decision, and I may override you if I feel the club needs the money.' It's fairly black and white really, the chairman decides your annual budget (a lot like your jobs) - you get to spend it largely as you will, and are expected to keep it in the black (often at big clubs this is what a head/director of football does that for you)

BTW - if you ever see a manger in the lower leagues getting sacked, and you think it looks harsh because their results have been decent, it's almost always because they've overshot the budget. Nothing pisses a chairman off like spending his money without his permission!
