I hope we get good news tomorrow but I'm not positive now. Trying to think of new managers who'd do well. Do we go for experience, Steve Cotterill who I think still lives nearby. Other choices are Danny Cowley and his brother from Lincoln. Done a fantastic job. Then I see Ryan Giggs, who can't find a top job. He'd have a lot to prove, and Oxford surely match his ambition. Darren Ferguson could do well, and has experience and has done well in the transfer market. My choice would be the Cowleys as I reckon they'd hit the ground running like they did at Braintree and Lincoln. They also have some good players they can bring our way

Cowley brothers, don't forget his dad comes part of the package as well. He is the eye from the stands during the game giving technical advice to his sons.

I'd rather not Cotterill. No top sides have gone for Giggs, and he probably needs a club lower down to give him a chance. He'd certainly have connections but then not that many from Old Trafford have done that well apart from Steve Bruce and arguably Brian Robson. Darren Ferguson brought in good players and seemed to have an eye for a bargain and Oxford have become s selling club. Chris Allen has done well with the young players and I'd like to see him given a chance but his lack of experience might go against him. There's plenty of out of work managers but we need someone who'll get the best out of our players

Giggs is greedy. He wants a PL job based on the meagre number of games he managed Man United and the rumour went that he was interviewed for the Swansea job but hadn't done any prep at all, thinking that just being Ryan Giggs would be enough.
If MApp was to depart, we'd probably throw the job to DF. I'd be ok with that but would prefer Chris Allen in the role with DF as assistant. Continuity would be key in keeping what MApp has built here going.
Changing the manager would mean changing the model and I don't think any of us would really want that at this stage.

They key would be to get the manager to fit the model, not the other way round. Southampton have done an amazing job of that of late. If you have the right backroom staff and recruiting people behind you then they should be helping to find the next man. I'm hoping this is all wasted conjecture mind you.

For continuity, as Appleton made his decisions based on his previous experiences, that would put Allen at a big disadvantage. Yes he was part of the back room staff, but has not been in a position of having to make such decisions. Man management, tactical knowledge etc. He is just starting to learn his trade and maybe in the future who knows, but with the turmoil the club is in we need an experienced manager to slot in between Faz and Allen. weve been down that road with Patterson, and that was an unmitigated disaster.

IF MAPP goes then the key thing is for there to be some continuity in the way that the team is developed.
So for me the key things would be:
- somebody with really good contacts - Somebody who is extremely good and likes developing younger players - A manager who wants to continue 'a project' and not go at the first opportunity - A manager who does not want to chnage everything , bring in his backroom staff etc
I am not sure how highly Chris Allen is regarded within the club and whether he is ready for management. I can only assume and hope that as well as developing players, MAPP/ DF have been developing the coaching team as well as CA.
In an ideal world CA would be ready and has DF as the experienced back up that he would need in his first job.
Whatever a huge decision by DE IF this is required which I reckon we will know by tomorrow morning.

We're an attractive proposition own for managers as well I imagine, people will have seen what's gone on over the last couple of years and think this is a club where they will get time and resources.
Appleton has been great no doubt but budget wise in the league has probably just matched expectations, the cup runs, style and player etc have been a massive bonus on top but if we have the same scouting team in place this could feasibly continue with a new man. As someone said up the thread I think we'll look for a manager to fit the model like Southampton have done with success recently.
Appleton is gone, I'm sure the the board have already started looking for alternatives.

Does Faz have an extensive management to have these, I'm not sure. We would look look an attractive prospect to managers, if, a big if, Eales has the funds that would have been available to Appleton. The way talk has been cheap over the last 6 months, I wouldn't believe a thing he says, until it was backed up by positive action. I don't believe the money is there, or we would not be spending every waking hour as Oxford fans, looking at this site or the Oxford Mail site, to see what Appleton has decided to do. Even the Eales diehards, heads in the sand, must be wanting questions answered and fast.

Short term Fazackerly or Allen until a new manager is appointed. How long short term is will depend on how successful they are. It may even be that one of them is made permanent manager.

Chris Allen could be caretaker for a month. A manager departing now is bad timing with all the pre season and players in and out still a long way off completion

Chris Allen could be caretaker for a month. A manager departing now is bad timing with all the pre season and players in and out still a long way off completion If ur going to do it and get a new manager u need him in sooner than a month, otherwise he gets no say in the transfer window and has to wait 6months before he can make any changes he thinks are needed. Also while I'd have full confidence in Allen as a coach, you just don't know how good he is at convincing players to join, something that mapp is excellent at. I'd be more comfortable with Allen taking over if we still had Ashton dealing with the transfer and contract sides of things

That's what I mean by bad timing. Chris Allen hasn't the experience that I think we will need to get promoted. There are some sound managers at L1 with small budgets who may be worth consideration. Graham Alexander could be a stand out candidate having just missed out at Scunthorpe on promotion. Was sacked at Fleetwood having got them up to L1. Seemed harsh on a very small budget

I'm not proposing Chrissy Allen for the job, nor anyone else for that matter as we don't know the job is vacant yet, but what you have said makes no sense to me at all. You say he has non(e) of these qualities? - Somebody who is extremely good and likes developing younger players. That was his job for us for years and he did a bloody good job of it. So much so Mapp brought him into the first team set up. - A manager who wants to continue 'a project' and not go at the first opportunity. Who could possibly want to continue the 'project' more than someone involved in it's start and he has already shown himself to be a very loyal servant. - A manager who does not want to chnage everything , bring in his backroom staff etc. Again, he is already involved, knows everyone and would only maybe bring in one to take his place. Couldn't be more suited to that specific criteria, in fact couldn't be more suited to all the criteria mentioned apart from contacts, and with a great recruitment team, that is less of an issue really.

we need to pray the gaffer stays as this ain't as appealing a job if you are looking outside in as we've had a failed takeover (hardly screams owner being committed) and a newspaper story saying our budget has been slashed and we've lost gaffer and 3 other key people who run club in months. dont paint a stable picture for a new boss does it? also its known the ground is a huge issue due to ka££am and weve boasted we need to sell a key player every summer as our business plan add that to the fact weve lost players like Connor, dunks, mags, and sercs and we dont look like that great an option to manage sadly. havin said that if eales does the right thing and sells to satori (if that is even possible now) then things change straight away. sadly this is the worst time to change manager as by the time we get one all the out of contract players who arent sh*t will have been snapped up.
basically we aint got a top 6 budget and the owner has said he cant afford to run club in championship not much of a project for a new boss!
