Kept quiet until now but blood is starting to boil! "You weren't at (read any league away game) so your not a real fan" "I'd go to Wembley, but none of the other games" "Checkatrade not important, I won't go to a game" So here's how I see it. OUFC didn't make the rules! It doesn't really matter what any of us think, the FA will always do its own thing. Not going to watch your team because of something out of its control is frankly pathetic. Personally I am proud to have watched 'my team' .... Whatever the competition and whatever the crowd ..... 2017 is no different to 2016 ..... I had a 10 hour round journey to watch 2016 quarter final at Dagenham and joined the 256 (if memory serves correct) ..... How we got to 33k at Wembley is beyond me......was there a boycott then? Did I miss something? Stop ******* bitching and get behind the U's ....... Still a long way to go but if and when we do 'go back' to Wembley I doubt it'll be against the last U21 team (Swansea) ...... Cos let's face it the other 15 have been pretty shite. A good old L1/L2 clash is more likely and I suspect the FA have already decided to revert the format anyway ......... For reference I have only missed 3 games all season and that includes Wimbledon (H) where I took advantage of the TV and saved a 400 mile round trip so please don't throw the "we're you at?" Card at me COYY ....... In any tournament 😉 For me the preservation of the status and success of the lower leagues is more important than the success of Oxford - in any competition. It's so shortsighted to say we have 'no control'. Yes, the PL will always try to impose their will regardless of public opinion. They do it to fans of their own clubs let alone fans of lower league teams. However, the Football League does not have to accept it. If they are shown that the implications of their decision to roll over for the PL can be huge, they will think twice about doing so. By attending these games, you're telling the EFL that you're okay with their decision. In a few years time, when we end up missing out on promotion because a B team filled with young foreign internationals gets there ahead of us, I'll look back to this competition and shake my head at anyone that attended a match. This is correct. Anyone who thinks this has "gone away" is very blinkered in their view. One of two things will happen the EFL/PL will come back with a bigger cheque or more tinkering in leagues/cups will occur. The EFL/PL don`t give a toss about their own supporters which shows from re-branding to forced purchasing of tickets so why will they care about the fans of the lower league clubs? If that is the case why will they care about the lower league clubs themselves? The FL is a superb structure that allows any team to progress and must not be changed to suit a never ending chase for ££££££`s.See the bigger picture folks.

If the theory that people are using is 'the FA/Premier League/EFL will do as they like' then the answer is not 'so let's just go with the flow'.
Remember, our club actually voted for these changes. Do you think it's likely they'll do the same again if we boycotted Wembley?

Football is all about opinions, there is lots of things that go on in football that some agree with and some disagree with, FIFA, UEFA, Premier League and our very own Football League will regularly have meeting to thrash out ideas of how to improve the game we love. For revamping, tinkering, undermining or whichever word you want to use for this seasons FL Trophy then only time will tell when an announcement is made on how next seasons competition is finalised... I am fully aware that this was used as a stepping stone as to possibly bringing in top flight reserve or youth teams into league football however is this idea a realistic proposition, I don't think so... Do you really think that anyone at any of the governing bodies would look back at the inclusion of the Top two leagues interning U23 teams as a successs, the realisation that most of the top two divisions didn't even bother to enter their youngsters in the first place has probably made them realise it was a wrong, bad, objectional decision and will almost certainly be put in room 101 as a failure... TRIED IT, IT FAILED,( like we as supporters knew it would and) MOVE ON...

IF we get to Wembley.... I will only go if it is against a REAL team - not if it ends up being vs Swansea U23. Also, a televised final could be an opportunity to display some banners / flags saying what we think of U23 football. A nice idea, but do you really think anyone would get in with anything displaying an anti EFL/FA/PL message into Wembley? I highly doubt it Do you think they'd unfold and check every flag that people are brining in in their bags?

RE your last paragraph. There was a story from Germany when Werder Bremen's B team were going for promotion in the fourth division. They needed a big last day win to secure promotion. What did they do? They got two players from the first team to play in the reserve team. One scored a hat trick and Bremen's B team went up ahead of a regular lower league side. I can't find the article anywhere... But will keep looking.. Do we really want a situation where we are going for promotion and say, Chelsea's reserves pip us to promotion after they've brought in a first team to score a hat trick? That's not progressive. It's totalitarian.

Any tournament should not cost clubs money to host matches, it looks like the EFL Trophy is. If the EFL persist with this nonsense, why don't they pay for clubs to host matches, or make the short fall up on a game by game basis?
Or make it a truly U21 Tournament, and host it in July/August? The EFL have options, but they seem wedded to the present which hasn't ever worked in the fans eyes

We're winning 3-1 and home and dry. It's because he's having a good game and is our best player at the moment that he should come off. On that note, not sure about the logic of putting Maguire on, maybe to play him back into some form? I'd imagine he was in Appleton's ear on the bench. Bit weak if Appleton makes the substitutions Maguire tells him to

I see Luton are being fined again. For fielding a weakened team in a game they won 4-0. Ridiculous.

I see Luton are being fined again. For fielding a weakened team in a game they won 4-0. Ridiculous. I actually disagree with the rule (especially looking at some of the teams in the FA Cup). But Luton ignored the rule and will be fined for that. They totally knew what they were doing and have 'accepted' the fine. Most of the clubs (including Oxford) change the 5 players they are allowed to do and don't get fined ....

Stevens will be the backup keeper come the summer. Benji will go - providing of course he isn't gone within the next three weeks.

Notice the outer blocks of the east stand were sealed off. Has that ever happened before for a first team game?

I still don't agree with this though, what good does it do Stevens to warm the bench each week? Keep Benji/another keeper as the number 2 and loan Stevens out to a Conference club.

I can't see Benji staying as he hasn't played since last season. I reckon we will get a very experienced ex premiership goalie in. Probably aged 38/40 but would do a job if he had to

Funnily enough, a few months of settling down into a new town, Hemmings and Johnson are looking better players. Who'd have thought it.
The pitch isn't looking the great of conditions of the South Stand side. Must be a nightmare to manage in that area

I get some fans boycott and I myself have not attended a Checka Whatever Cup game this season. But for the sake of discussion hasn't the boycott now been done and wouldn't 40 or 50 thousand fans attending the showcase final all turning their back on the game on 23 minutes (under 23s teams) and chanting "Premiership out" make an even stronger statement and get way more coverage than a further boycott? Just a thought and IF we did make it I would still need to consider my options.

I can't see the EFL letting B teams in, they have seen the backlash at the start of the trophy and have announced that B teams will not be introduced into the EFL Structure. IMO, we, the supported have won and it's time to get supporting the club in this trophy.
If they talk about it again, then that's a different matter.

We all hate the current format of this cup, but our team are in the last eight, so surely, SURELY, every OUFC fan has to get behind the boys? The club didn't set the rules, are people really saying they would boycott a Wembley date? Come on guys, this is our club doing well, and if we don't ALL support them, then no-one else will.

One U21 team left in the tournament will be seen as a failure. In the unlikely event that the FA continue with the policy next year in all liklehood even more teams will take the Arsenal, United etc. stance and decline to enter. By failing to attend the only thing we are doing is not helping Mr Eales fund the fantastic venture that is OUFC on the way back ..... We only hurt ourselves! It's a futile protest and although well founded holds no sway. It might even scare potential sponsors away and make the JPT, EFL Trophy, Checkertrade Cup or whatever you want to call it disappear.

I'm a season ticket holder go home and away in the EFL Cup and FA cup. However I will never partake in any part of this trophy this year. Even a Wembely Final. The risk to our club are too great from B team football. For me if the EFL judge this to be a success and repeat again next year then people who attended this have Blood on their hands. They will say well it was going to be introduced anyway say it was an EFL decision however for me those are supporting both the club and the EFL in their decision. Yes it will hurt missing my team who'm I spent so much money following (I travel from Cambridge each game) going to Wembely but for me it is a point of principle about growing some backbone and not doing what's right for the short term and what is right for the long term. At the end of the day the club voted for this change so like smaking a child who has been bad for it's own good I have no issue about withdrawing my support for this trophy (and the club when they are playing in it). FFS it isn't even a fair competition. How can Chelsea rest first team under 23 players and not get fined but the EFL clubs do?!

I agree with your view in many respects. How can any player get a game (or a goal) against a team which doesn't really exist? It's a travesty of competitive football, where we surely compete equally against other clubs. Just wrong, and I hate it, as I think we all do. What a dreadful tournament.
But ... here we are. Our club has entered a competition and we have to decide whether or not to support them. If we don't, then no-one else will. This is Oxford United, on the pitch. That's really important - if you, as a committed fan, boycott your team now, then OUFC are just one man short. The principle is one thing. Your club is what counts. I'm going to Wembley with my boys. See you there, brother?
