So if we accept all of what you have put, why did it happen in the first place? Someone must have seen the chance for £££. IF attendances had been large (and I totally agree with you that it was never going happen as fans wouldn't accept it) and it came to another vote to extend the trial, it would have been left to the chairmen of the clubs to decide on going forward with it. Now, would they say "attendances have been good, but I'm against it even if it costs me money".... Erm... I wouldn't bank on that. If Mr Kassam, for example, was in charge still, and had to vote on something that may make him a few short-term £££ but long-term? The average chairman won't care. I'm speculating here, but I think there's two possibilities as to why this happened in the first place (I think we can all agree that it's down to money, and that the "It's good for the England team" argument is total bollocks): 1) Someone in the Premier League administration thought it was a good idea to get some more of their youngsters a run-out against proper opposition and convinced the organization to write a cheque big enough to get the Football League to go along with it. There's certainly more prizemoney on offer this year than there has been in the past - and that was agreed, I believe, pre-sponsorship 2) A bunch of lower league Chairmen thought that they could make a bit more cash (they could hardly make any less) from this competition if they were playing Man U Bs rather than Bury. It's not a bad bet actually that while us traditional fans hate it, you could get a few thousand Man U fans that never get to Old Trafford turning up to watch their reserves play. Either way, the logic was torpedoed as soon as the biggest clubs in the land declined the invitation. Because the Premier League is never going to make any of its decisions for the benefit of the likes of Norwich and Wolves, and no one in their right minds is going to turn up to watch their stiffs!

I'm all for debate, but i'm at the stage where I just can't be @rsed with the nonsense involved. I MIGHT think about going to a game IF the FA abandon under 21 thing and Swansea Under 21 go out. I love my team but the future of grass roots football matters.

I fully understand all concerned with the format of this competition, everyone has. The football league trophy, ZDS, Freight Rover, Simod, JPT and other sponsors have been the victims of rule changes along the way, who can remember the "you can't be offside from a free kick" trial, which of course never materialised. The fans have voted with their feet and it almost certainly not gone un-noticed at the FA hierarchy. Most premier league youngsters are out on loan across the football lower pyramid and this is not going to change. There is no legs in getting reserve / under 21 or 23 teams in the lower leagues, it is just not sustainable. After all said and done we are in the last 8 of this competition and we as fans and our players must grab it with both hands and the way the interviews went after the Scunthorpe win the payers are going to give it their best shot, after all, we don't set the rules, we adhere to them, please remember the club signed up for the inclusion of a handful of U23 teams at the outset. Regardless of our next opponents being either Cheltenham or Bradford in the last 8 we all know it will be our biggest attendance so far in the competition as we prepare for another visit to the home of football and what is becoming our second home...... Wembley..... Agree or disagree, let's get behind our players for the remainder of the competition and give our current crop of players a taste of the potential of what our club is all about.....

But please not against Swansea U23s, because I'd struggle to see that as a final. Which is, of course, why the whole thing is ridiculous.

The problem the club will have, if we get to the final, is that most fans have had their day out at Wembley. So while a lot will go, some may think sod it, I'll watch the game at home. The apathy towards the tournament and potentially Chelts vs Yeovil could publically kill of the competition

Merely another balls up with regard to the changes they made to the competition. The sooner they revert to the original set up the better. Though I have no doubt they will try some other abortion rather than admit they were wrong.
