1-1
A midfielder from each side to score, inevitably it will be Sercombe for Rovers.
A player from each side to be sent off.

I'm not up to date with the current child benefit that parent/guardian receives, but there was talk a little while ago about child benefits only being paid out for the first two children. Perhaps reduce this to the first child only? Incentivise parents not to have more than two children, or no children at all! In what way I'm not sure. Interestingly up until fairly recently it was often seen as the duty of a woman to have children, and couples that chose not to were often labelled as selfish. Maybe society will view these couples as not so selfish after all. Of course it's a very strong natural instinct to reproduce. That might reduce birth rates and therefore population increase in the UK and other western countries, but unfortunately these countries are not the problem. I doubt the government of Pakistan, for example, pays any child benefit at all so there's nothing to cut as an incentive. How do you 'educate' an impoverished Brazilian favela-dweller, for example, not to reproduce? Well quite! I'm sure there are many better minds out there than mine who are wrestling with the problem of over population. My point was perhaps to try and incentivise people not to have children (or at least fewer) rather than penalise those that choose to have many. How that is done I'm not sure. Maybe those in the U.K. and other western countries need to 'show the way' Anyway perhaps there isn't a socially acceptable solution, certainly not one that any modern politician would be happy to endorse.

In our children's, grandchildren's or great grandchildren's life times? Before we get to that breaking point, as I've rather depressingly said before I suspect there will be a devastating major world war/ nuclear in the future, probably over ever depleting natural resources. (Due to over population) So what's the answer? Educate citizens of the world to stop over reproducing, tor something more draconian? Frankly, I pessimistically can't see any solution working. The Chinese enforced a 'one child policy' which did curtail their population explosion, but that was only possible in such a centrally planned, militaristic economy. In past decades poor people in poor countries produced lots of offspring to secure the blood line and provide workers for family farms, because the infant death rate through disease, famine and natural disasters was so high. We now have international efforts galore to reduce deaths and improve living standards, and the populations are exploding. Individual famines (Geldof's Ethiopia) and humanitarian crises (Myanmar) are targeted in efforts to prevent massive loss of life. I'm not advocating leaving the poor to their own devices, by the way. The genie is out of the bottle. As the world population increases we'll do our best to keep as many of them as possible alive for as long as possible. (PS Catholic church values in Latin America don't help the situation). I'm not up to date with the current child benefit that parent/guardian receives, but there was talk a little while ago about child benefits only being paid out for the first two children. Also appear to be rapid growth in countries with multiple domestic issues be it famine, poverty, anti-liberalism, or internal conflict. Ultimately Malthusian theory will take the human race apart First time I've heard Malthus mentioned since A Levels! But yes, the earth has a definitive ability to support its human population. I wonder at what point that ability will be reached? In our children's, grandchildren's or great grandchildren's life times? Before we get to that breaking point, as I've rather depressingly said before I suspect there will be a devastating major world war/ nuclear in the future, probably over ever depleting natural resources. Here are populations for 1950 and projected populations for 2050: Rank 1950 population (000) 2050 population (000) 1 India 357,561 1,572,055 x 4.42 China 554,760 1,462,058 x 2.6
3 United States of America 157,813 397,063 x 2.54 Pakistan 39,659 344,170 x 8.65 Indonesia 79,538 311,335 x 3.96 Nigeria 29,790 278,788 x 9.37 Bangladesh 41,783 265,432 x 6.38 Brazil 53,975 247,244 x 4.69 Dem. Rep. of the Congo 12,184 203,527 x 17.010 Ethiopia 18,434 186,452 x 10.111 Mexico 27,737 146,651 x 5.312 Philippines 19,996 128,383 x 6.413 Vietnam 27,367 123,782 x 4.514 Iran 16,913 121,424 x 7.115 Egypt 21,834 113,840 x 5.216 Japan 83,625 109,220 x 1.317 Russian Federation 102,702 104,258 x 0.218 Yemen 4,316 102,379 x 23.819 Uganda 5,210 101,524 x 19.520 Turkey 20,809 98,818 x 4.8
India overtakes China. Countries like Congo, Yemen and Uganda show mind-blowing increases. The Third World can't be fed today. Let's hope scientific advances find a way to feed the extra billions by 2050, as it's difficult to see population increases being curtailed. Those predictions are actually quite scary but not surprising. Birth rates are obviously a major issue in certain countries as well as longevity of life increasing in others. I suspect there will be a breaking point and some sort of reset in the future, either a catastrophic nuclear war, a major outbreak of an untreatable disease, or the earth is hit by a massive meteorite. Bit depressing isn't it.

It was noticeable yesterday how we played further up the field, pressed and harried the opposition to good effect.
I thought the two central defenders were excellent. Mousinho my motm.
Really good finish from Wes too.

I'd quite like to see a 3-5-2 formation given a go.
Eastwood
Nelson Williamson Mousinho
Ribeiro Rothwell Ledson Ruffles Henry/Ricardiniho
Thomas Payne
Vaan Kessel our impact player coming on for the last 20/25 mins.

Pep springs a surprise and goes with a 3-5-1-1 formation.
Wimbledon note the success of Walsall, line up 4-5-1- and man-mark Payne.
The net result is there ain't a lot of room in midfield, despite that minor inconvenience we gamely try and play our way through the middle, whilst the Dons bombard us with long balls into the box.
0-0.

At the beginning of the season the manager is given a budget, he spends and assembles as he sees fit.
My view is that quality is better than quantity. Either can work or fail, luck will come into it as well as skill & nous.
I believe on the whole Appleton took the quality approach, he also went for younger, hungry players, we didn't have a huge squad under Appleton, an element of risk but on the whole it paid off.
Others will clamour for quantity over quality so long as we have 'strength in depth' . Pep with Eales blessing appear to have decided on this route. Older more experienced players signed, some with noted injury histories.
This is the risk you take.

They did because they couldn't afford to take it on as it was too much money - they had the cash to maintain not to take on.Β The article posted yesterday made it clear they found it more expensive than they thought when they got involcved.Β Why would he not invest more in Reading, who are setup for a premier league tilt, or us, who are years away? As I understand it from local friends who support Reading, the three Thais didn't have the cash to do anything. They just asset-stripped both the stadium itself and the adjacent development which had been granted to reading fc to help with long-term revenues and used that cash to pay for running the club in the short term. Once they had completed both of those manoeuvres they were out of there pronto. Whilst it's vaguely amusing to watch one of our rivals get comprehensively stitched up, it was a disastrous ownership. Fortunately for Reading, their new Chinese owners have had the financial wherewithal to buy the stadium back, because the club was having to pay 1 million plus a year to carry on playing in it. It's all a bit eery, given our recent history! Sounds worrying, do we really want these people involved in our football club? Don't think I'll be rushing to have my photo taken with them as if they are some sort financial saviour, unlike some of our fans at Peterborough apparently.

out of interest when was the last time oxford united played oxford city in a competition. OSC final in 2013 I think. I might be wrong but didn't United give City a bit of a thrashing in the 2016 final, 6-1?

Oxford City at home to Bognor Regis, both struggling in National League South but certainly a winnable tie for City. Get through the Bognor game and then get drawn away to Scumdon in the first round.

Just a quick couple of observations, no time to do anything more detailed... (Being worked like a dog at the minute) - How the hell does a straight ball carve us open? That's a worry. Fair enough if it comes from a wide area, or into the channels, but that's a straight as an arrow. Eastwood makes a mistake here too - overcommits. Perhaps he still would have scored if he didn't, so perhaps calling it a mistake is harsh, but he could have made it a lot harder for their striker. - Ruffel's header - the marking is so bad it's funny. Pause at 0.44 to have a good laugh at the Posh players marking each other! - For the third, big shout to Thomas who saw the run of Rothwell behind him and made the decoy run, takes two players out the game. I wasn't there Jerome but understand that the Peterborough goal came from a ball that held up in the wind, doesn't excuse poor defending/anticipation but might explain partly why it happened. Same as with Wes Thomas' goal, it looked as if their central defender and keeper should've got to the ball before Thomas.

I've got a very strange feeling that we're going to win, which is very odd indeed considering we've been crap in the last 3 games.
0-2. Williamson, Hall.
We will play 3 at the back with 2 wingbacks, the system works a treat and Pep is declared a tactical genius.

That wasn't just a very poor performance against a team that hadn't won away since Boxing Day, it was very worrying too.
Van Kessel is an impact player at best (last 20 mins max) first half he offered zero support to Ricardinho, second half fell over a lot and couldn't retain possession.
If Obika and Thomas are both injured we cannot continue with the current formation, the centreforward has to be very fit, strong and good with his back to goal for this system to have any chance of success.
The players looked as if they didn't believe they could win and didn't believe in the system (certainly with the available players)
Pep has to really earn his corn now, is he brave enough to admit the current system is not working, has a got a plan B or C?
We have to find a way of combating teams that pack the midfield and man mark Payne. Over to you Pep.

Disappointing attendance with a p*ss-poor atmosphere in the 3 sided bunker. Oxford win a nervy match 1-0. Mehmeti comes off the bench late on to score the winner, a new hero is born and all is well. Nick Harris has a shocker.

If I remember correctly the Prime Minster at the time David Cameron said it was a simple leave or remain vote and that there would be no second referendum, this was made very clear. The public voted on those terms.
It was a high turn out, 72%? We're a democratic country. The clear result of the vote was to leave. It should stand.

I wasn't at the game Jerome, and apologies if this point has already been made.
Are some of our more senior players struggling to play 2 games in a week, in particular Williamson and Ricardinho?
Are players such as Obika, and Thomas capable of playing 2 games in a week due to niggling injuries ?
Was it asking to much of Mousinho to play 3 games in 8 days when he hasn't played very much this season up until he joined Oxford?
Just a thought.

Funny how we all see games differently and through Yellow tinted spectacles most of the time. I didn't think Henry was that bad and I don't think Mous was that good at RB, to say he's quicker than Ribs is laughable. He would slot better into the right of a three man backline allowing Ribs or Carroll and Ric do play their attacking game. Mous was steady but he wasn't put under much pressure to be honest. and if he is good enough to still be playing championship football he would be doing so, so lets not get carried away.. I don't dislike him in fact I think he's a consummate professional and an excellent cover signing, but would much prefer to see Carroll be given a run in that berth while Ribs is out. Carroll will be disappointed after his showing Saturday where he was better than Mous was tonight. As for GVK well the jury is still out for me... could he be just a 20 minute impact player.? although he still looks a bit rusty I thought Hall and Rothwell were both excellent. Fair play to Bradford they certainly came with a plan and it almost bore fruit. They will be delighted with a point, and although its disappointing to concede in the last minute its no different to doing so in the first. Defensively to a man we should have done much better in the final 10, especially when being 2 -1 down an away team travelling from up t'north have nowt to lose. I might be one of the few but wasn't a penalty clear cut for me if it had been given against us I would be very disappointed, and although its a much used clichΓ© a share of the spoils was probably a fair result. All in all a great game and advertisement for lower league football. If I had to watch that each week I would be delighted. Bradford were a strong well organised side, as are the majority of sides in this division.. Top 6 material ? we shall see but I think you could perm any one from about 15. However the top 10 of the table is sorting its self out now even after only 7 games and its important not to let home points slip away so easily at any stage of the season, because there are one or two very good teams below us we have yet to play. Have to disagree regarding your comparison between Carroll & Mousinho. Carroll is a good prospect and I think he'll have a decent career, but at this stage Mousinho is the better player. It's all about opinions but to my mind Mousinho had a better game last night than Carroll did on Saturday, add to that we were playing much stronger opposition in Bradford as against a pretty poor Gillingham side.

For Div 3 that was a high quality football match. Both teams played their part and although it's gutting to concede so late in the game, a draw was a fair result
Bradford's first was a quality finish, I was sat directly behind in the. North Stand, Eastwood stood no chance. They have an attractive pattern of play, no hoofing or over reliance on set plays. Laws is their most instrumental player. They also smashed the underside of our bar, that goes in then we probably lose the match.
So many good things about our performance, although I was a fan of Appleton and his style of play Pep is beginning to win me over especially the way we move and pass the ball qickly. Rothwell is a much better player than I ever realised, Ledson the perfect foil.
Payne's enthusiasm is infectious, you can see he just loves playing football. Mowatt will start as soon as he's match fit though, he looks a very good player.
Mousinho should still be playing Championship football, but I'm very pleased he's with us. Ricardinho in just a few games is approaching cult status, a joy to watch. Are these two fullbacks the best we've had since Langan and MacDonald ? Taking into account Slater and Beardsley. Or am I getting over excited?π

Don't think there won't be too much between the sides. Hoping for a win but predict a 1-1 draw with a defender from each team scoring.
Weather forecast not looking at all good, so don't expecting a classic.
What sort of person designs a stadium with three stands and leaves the open end facing towards the prevailing wind?
