Personally I never boo, shout abuse or criticism at a player on the field of play, to my mind it’s totally counter productive. For sure I get frustrated and none more so than earlier this season when Johnson plainly wasn’t putting the effort in. However after match discussions whether they be in the pub or on here then it’s perfectly reasonable to vent your spleen.

I liked both Mullins and Wright, however we did look vulnerable in the air defensively when they played together. I’d say they both need to play along side a ‘stopper’
For Sheffield Utd think I’m correct in saying that Wright played on the left side of a back 3 with a tall central defender alongside him, and had a very successful season.
As for Mousinho, I rate him as a footballer, not a natural defender in my view more a defensive midfielder, but he’s an intelligent player on and off the field and can adapt really well.

I’m certainly not against playing one up front, but the problem of isolation arises when we are forced to play an ageing back 4 which isn’t the quickest and drop deeper and deeper.
Knock on affect is that the midfield 2 can get overrun and Wes is very isolated.

I’d like to see Pistachio and Quince flavoured crisps.
Could see them going down well in the ‘bird on match day. Complimentary of course, served in cut glass crystal finger bowls.

As much as I’d like us to sign some tall, athletic, pacy players in January I doubt it’s going to happen.
We have Mehmeti, van Kessel, Raglan, Pekalski & Long all training again. We actually have a fairly large squad, certainly compared to the previous 2 seasons under Appleton.
In my view we have a squad of quantity rather than a smaller one of quality. This is the decision taken at the start of the season and it’s where we are now.
If finances allow I’d personally release 4-5 players and replace with 2-3 tall, athletic pacy players, with youngsters such as Carroll, Napa helping to fill places on the bench.
At league 1 level with a limited budget it baffles me that some fans are obsessed with having a large squad.

A comfortable 4-0 victory to the mighty yellows. Thomas 2, Payne, Xemi. Post match Darren Ferguson complains about the referee.
Pep explains that the return from injury in the new year of Mehmeti, van Kessel, Raglan, Pekalski & Long will feel like new signings. Ha!

I think it would be a bit churlish to be too critical after picking up 3 valuable points today, so well done to all especially Josh Ruffels. A few observations (which have probably already been made A clean sheet is a positive, Williamson had a very solid game. The back 4 all in their 30s means we play a too deep for my liking. Thankless task for Wes up top on his own. Tiendahli much improved. Mowatt looked much more effective on the right hand side cutting in. Lack of pace and wingers is very evident and restricts the team’s ability to worry and stretch the opposition. We were spoilt for a couple of seasons under Mapp, now back to reality. I still think this team has another bad run in them so I’ll be relieved when we reach 5o plus points.

...and as you’ll be morally obliged to name the young lad after the winning goalscorer, I do hope for your sake we’re welcoming a ConcreteJohn or a ConcreteRyan, not a ConcreteCanice or a ConcreteRicardinho... Thank goodness we don’t have a player called ‘mixer’ then... We have however got a safety officer called Mixter. According to amershamdave it’s highly likely he’ll enter the field of play in injury time to nod in the winner whilst being chased by a cocker spaniel.

Well it looks as if Theresa May has cleared the first hurdle. The rabid remainers aren’t happy and the rabid leavers aren’t happy either, so probably the best that May could hope to achieve. . I'm a "rabid remainer" but I think I would have respected May & co. more if they'd said " **** it, we're going to walk away and do our own thing. Short term, the financial consequences are going to be brutal - and so is the Irish situation - but we believe in Britain and we'll make it through and come out the other side stronger and more independent". The two most powerful people in the government are the PM and Chancellor both are remainers so that scenario was always highly unlikely.

Niall will continue his role as Executive Headteacher at The Oxford Academy and John Henry Newman Academy on a part-time basis.
So does this mean he is a part time MD for OUFC?

As I understand it the UK is leaving the single market and customs union. The role of the European Court of Justice is time limited, and the DUP have agreed the Irish border issue.
The EU can now accelerate plans for a Federal United States of Europe.
Trade talks to start now so plenty of negotiating still to be done, but at least it’s a start. Although as we keep being told “nothing is agreed until everything is agreed”

From the Telegraph.
The head of Germany's Social Democrats, Martin Schulz, a potential future governing partner of Chancellor Angela Merkel, called Thursday for the creation of a "United States of Europe" by 2025.
Schulz delivered a passionate plea for a more united and federal Europe at an SPD party congress that was due to decide whether his centre-left party will enter exploratory talks to form a new coalition government with Merkel.
"I want a European constitutional treaty that creates a federal Europe", said Schulz, the former European parliament president, proposing a written convention involving civil society and citizens.
The treaty would then be presented to all member states for ratification, with those that reject it automatically leaving the bloc, Schulz proposed in a speech at a Berlin meeting of some 600 delegates.
He suggested a target year of 2025, one century after the SPD first spoke of a future "United States of Europe".

Clarkson is part of the Chipping Norton set which includes the likes of David Cameron and Rebecca Brookes. They are not ‘true’ Chippy and never will be.

All that talk of chippy made me think this thread had turned into a Chris Wilder one. Phew One Chippy is arrogant, dismissive of history, miserable, grumpy, unfriendly, and Northern. The other Chippy isn’t.

People in the north do seem to be generally more open and friendly. People may think I made a sweeping generalisation but I was always proud of Oxonians as they had an independent spirit and class. The first point is undeniable. Before I moved to Oxfordshire some 30 years ago I lived in North Herts, a region ahead of Oxford in only 1 respect - it was (and has been) swallowed into the London suburbs faster. People there used to talk about local spirit, old people with local accents - the same things you're mentioning. In the past 30 years South Oxon has gone a long way from a rural area facing a developed local centre towards suburbanisation. I'm afraid this is why people are ruder, that they eat worse and dress poorly is probably more to do with the calamitous reduction in actual wage power for the unskilled, uneducated and unwashed. Within 5 years it will be time for me to fly, into life's mystery (to quote Richman J), or at least further from the Great Wen. Opposite is true in Chippy, 30 years ago there was a great sense of local pride, spirit and community, plus the best accent in the county. Then the Chipping Norton set moved in.

Here’s how the BBC reported last nights EFL Trophy games.
Leicester City fielded an Under-21 side with six over-age players, three internationals and transfer fees worth around £45m in their 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy second-round win at Scunthorpe.
Nigeria's Kelechi Iheanacho started up front alongside Leonardo Ulloa as City edged past the League One side.
Two youngsters - George Thomas and Sam Hughes - put City into an early lead.
Kevin van Veen pulled one back for the Iron just before the break, although just 824 fans were there to see it.
As well as 31-year-old Ulloa and 21-year-old Iheanacho, goalkeeper Ben Hamer (30), Ghanaian international Daniel Amartey (22), Austria's Aleksandar Dragovic (26) and former France Under-21 player Yohan Benalouane (30) also featured as Leicester made the last 16.
But the other two Premier League academy sides bowed out as the tournament continued to suffer poor crowds.
West Ham's youngsters went down 4-0 at Luton Town in front of just 1,670 fans, while Swansea City's academy side were beaten 3-2 by League One's Charlton Athletic at a sparsely populated Liberty Stadium - the Swans did not release an attendance figure.
Lincoln City had the biggest attendance of the night with 3,026 as they beat Accrington 3-2, while League Two sides Yeovil Town and Forest Green Rovers both had wins over League One opposition.
The combined attendance of the nine games where clubs did reveal a figure was 11,323 - an average of just 1,258 per game.
The Leicester game was a farce, plus just 824 fans turned up to witness it.
Looks as if Swansea were too embarrassed to admit their official attendance.

Chipping Norton is the coldest place in the county, times I have driven there in the winter with the van saying it's a balmy 4 Celsius only to see it plunge into the minuses on entry to the ice box that is chippy. Blame Clarkson, probably does it to keep all the foreigners out. PE lessons at Chippy school were fun. Evidently there's nothing higher than Chippy if you go directly East until you hit Russia. You couldn’t beat a cross country run down to Glyme Farm in a minus 10 degree blizzard. Happy days.

Watching the very poor first 20 minute display we have put on tonight, it seemed like a case of deja vu! So I thought I'd look at the last 10 games: v Gillingham 1 down after 9 minutes v Southend 1 down after 19 minutes v Blackburn 1 down after 5 minutes, 2 down after 17 minutes v Plymouth didn't concede early v Northampton 1 down after 12 minutes v MK Dons 1 down after 9 minutes v Port Vale 1 down 15 minutes v Fleetwood didn't concede early v Rotherham 1 down after 20 minutes v Charlton 1 down after 18 minutes Now don't claim to be an analyst or some sort of expert, but I'd say that giving 80% of your opposition a goal start in the first 20 minutes isn't a very good stat! I hope (although not on tonight's showing) that they spent some time in Spain sorting that out. Not giving the ball away all the time outside our own area might be a start... Interesting stats which highlights a worrying trend under Pep. It feels as if we’re way too passive in the opening 20 mins of games and this confirms it. Get on the front foot!

Wouldn’t it be great if we scuttled out the Aussies for 110 and then chased down the 300 odd with a couple of wickets to spare. Well that’s what my heart says. Sadly I'll turn on the Radio about 7 o’clock in the morning with a tiny glimmer of hope only to be dashed by the news that Australia rallied to 240 all out, and we are currently 28 for 2. Well my heart still says we can do this, we’re half way to our target, we need 30 runs for each wicket left. Can we get close enough to our target to put pressure on Smith and the Aussie bowlers? My head says we’ll fall short, but........ As John Cleese character said in the film Clockwise - “It's not the despair, I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand”

Total guess work but I get the feeling that although DE is keen to do a deal for further investment in the club, it is very much on his terms rather than Tiger & Co dictating, and this is perhaps the delay. Tiger has probably reported back to the real money men and they're mulling it over. I doubt that. Tiger and Co are making DE sweat DE maybe sweating, but if he was desperate then surely he would've sold to Sartori? Perhaps "no deal is better than a bad deal" as far as DE is concerned at the moment.
