Think di Maria is a good buy but 20 mill overpriced but man utd need him. They were awful yesterday Rooney and rvp looked totally disinterested their midfield was woeful and kept giving the ball away and wickham ran their defence ragged. It's just a shame Sunderland didn't have the confidence to go for the kill. If man utd don't buy Maria plus at least 3 more top quality players this week they won't finish any higher than last season The Geordie took a while to wake up, still an interesting take on the game. Notice he didn't mention the penalty for RVP.. Whys that? What have Geordies got to do with it. If your referring to me I was born and raised in Oxfordshire and moved to the north east 2 years ago. I was at the match yesterday and Sunderland easily matched your lot. Yes rap should have had a penalty but so should john oshea at the end, but you wouldn't of seen that as match of the day only show what they want so you would of had a screwed view. Just so you know in future Geordies come from newcastle

You need to get out of your own half to 'go for the kill' ! * * oh and you also need possession of the football. Where were you sat baldy I guess the away fans are quite high so you probably had a slightly different view. Man utd were no better than Sunderland on that showing they are both heading for mid tangle finishes

Thanks for the correction. Difficult to tell them apart you see. Watched the game whilst round an inlaws who was also throwing a party so didn't catch the O'Shea incident. Not seen it reported since though. Did it happen as described?
As for the Di Maria fee. An upfront fee of 59.7m. So not quite the 63m or 75m reported...

On his way for £59.7m
A class player but if I were a Man U fan I would want money spent on the defence as a priority. If they can add some quality at the back then they're nailed on for top 4 in my opinion.

They've strengthened at the back with Rojo coming in... Sure they'll switch their attentions to the centre of the park now.

Rojo had a good World Cup and I'm sure he'll be a big improvement on Blackett. But I still think they need a better option than Smalling back there and I'm not sure Evans is the answer. Jones is good, but I they need a big player in there (like Hummels) to orchestrate the whole thing. I agree they do need something else in centre midfield too.

They don't need anybody. All they need is to suffer like Newcastle

If you look at the current top PL purchases in that link Boogaloo posted, only Aguero has justified the money. Of course, still early days for some of them but there is a lot of wasted millions on that list.

The PL bubble went mad a long time ago. The money paid for one player would pay the salaries of every L2 player for a year.

Hold on a minute, you're getting ahead of yourself. From yesterday add Carrick, Shaw, Di Maria, Rojo and Evans to the starting eleven. That's four very good footballers. Add also a properly fit RVP and a confident Kagawa, Valencia, Young and Januzai to challenge Shaw and Di Maria. Two perfectly good back up strikers in Welbeck and Hernandez Thats plenty in offensive positions of exceptional or very good back up. Give me the Chelsea and City squads going forward and they won't be any stronger than Man U. The likes of Cleverey, Fellaini and Anderson are all internationals who will provide additional numbers. Where they need reinforcement is in central areas defensively and in the middle of the pitch. The squad needs surgery, we all know that, but depth wise if they can add another defender (maybe two) and a central midfielder then they're not far away. Evans and Rojo alone are going to immediately strengthen the defence. These great squad players are getting thrashed by a league 1 outfit, LOL!

I can can imagine the conversation went something like this:-
LVG - We bid £30mil
Real Madrid CEO - Mmmm, sounds tempting. Shall we accept? Real Madrid Financial Director - Nahh, those wallys at Old Trafford thought £27mil for Luke Shaw and £28mil for Fellani was 'good value'. We can get a lot more than this. Real Madrid CEO - Hello Louis, thanks for your offer, but it's not enough
LVG - £40mil then? Real CEO - No, still not close.
LVG - £40mi + 1 pound? Real CEO - Are you taking the p*ss?
LVG - £50mil? Real - Now we're getting closer. £59mil and he's yours. LVG - Deal.
(CEO and FD open the champagne and roll around the floor laughing their heads off, knowing full well that they have effectively recouped the money spent on the far superior James Rodriguez)

£60 million for a Real Madrid reserve. Love it. The same reserve who got MOM in the CL final against Atletico. I've said it before and I'll say it again. In the formation LVG intends to play at Man Utd you name me, worldwide, a better right sided wing back. Give me that name of a player who combines work rate, ability to track back, skill level, technical ability and goal return better than Di Maria. I'll await your response with baited breath........

Something for baldy and boogaloo to consider: Its striking how similar the signings of Ozil and Di Maria are. Both rated extremely highly by RM fans and players, both provided the most assists but the club was prepared to let them go for huge prices in order to fund their pursuit of more galacticos.

Well done LvG on purchasing the best RWB in the world. It's a shame none of the rest of the players can adapt to the wing-back system!

Di Maria is left footed and played predominantly on the left of a 3 for Real Madrid. Where you suddenly have come to this conclusion that he is the best right sided wing back in the world is bizarre even by your standards.

When compiling a list of the worlds best wing backs (admittedly not easy) its probably best to start with those who actually play the position regularly!
