Sporting Lisbon fans have been dishing the dirt on Rojo for the benefit of a United fans' forum. If what they say is accurate then two things seem clear: he is still not quite the finished article, but Van Gaal is as good a man as any to turn a hugely talented player into one of the world's best defenders. Here's what they had to say: "Sporting fans have a love/hate relationship with Rojo... He's a very physical player. He's pacy and a very good man marker... He has performed way better as a centre-back rather than as a left-back at Sporting. He can be an absolute beast and dominate games in a flawless way. But then there's the inconsistency. He is very prone to positional errors and concentration lapses. He is also a complete nutcase. He's been sent off so many times in very stupid fashion... It's always the same thing with Rojo. He gets sent off and costs us a game and he starts getting booed and people in the stands say that we are better off selling him. But then he comes back and plays spectacularly again... The key issue is that he needs a mentally strong and disciplinarian manager." uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/football-rojo-hints-man-utd-move-081815006--sow.html?soc_src=mediacontentsharebuttonsim not sure you will find many people on here that will be surprised that you spend a lot of time on the man utd forum

£50million for a winger? Fifty million for ANY bluddy footballer? I remember when football had a working-class mentality! A long bluddy time ago! I bet this was all fields too, right?

Is a nutcase in a centre half not a good thing? Vidic was hardly a saint and he was top draw.. depends what kind of nutcase! I wouldn't liken Rojo to Vidic at all. Its one thing being a hardman, but from what I've read Rojo has a reckless streak in him. Not saying he isn't a good signing at all, just saying that he's not necessarily a solid reliable replacement for Vidic.

Deal virtually done. He will be a Manchester United player very soon.
Flies in the face of the theory that they won't attract any top players ! This will smash the British transfer record to bits and they are getting absolute top quality.
Rumoured that Ronaldo and Ramos went to the president of Madrid pleading that they cannot let ADM leave - he's been that good for them.
Fantastic signing.

The only way Psg could get him is to ship a big name out quick , say cavani to arsenal

I see the latest price being quoted is £75m That will certainly blow a hole in the budget. Wonder how much the wages will be...has to be more than for Rooney

Price agreed at £63.9million I think I heard on Sky! That is massively over the odds and screams of desperation but he is at least the quality that Man Utd need.
The side that Man Utd put out today was a pretty poor one by their recent standards. 5 points already dropped so far and nothing from today to indicate the current group can turn things around quickly.

imho the last thing they need to do is spend £65m on an attacking winger. throw £40m for Hummells and hope you can get videl or pogba for £40-£50m

I wonder if they will run into a cash crisis as they seem to be desperately throwing money at players. Seems a lot of money,,,especially if he doesn't perform to his best

It appears more and more likely that this deal will go through in the next 48hrs. di Maria is undoubtedly a very good player, and could be one of the best in the premiership.
However I'm not sure that he is the answer to all of Man Utds problems and £60m+ is way over the odds and he will be judged against that. Fellaini struggled due to the price tag as much as anything else and would have been given a lot more leeway if he'd have cost around £17m instead of £27m.
Time will tell what impact he has, and what this means for Mata who will likely miss out. Spending over £200m in 12 months needs to bring success but I still think they are a couple of players short of a side competing for 3rd place let alone matching Chelsea and City.

In recent years the top players from spain struggle at first. Ozil being one and Sanchez looks to be another who will take probably a season to adjust. I think Di Maria will be the same.

Wishful thinking.....I hope it takes him ages to adjust to the rigours of the premiership

With 60 million they could buy a defence for that price. Can't believe they are gona buy a winger when they have no central midfield and a poor defence. Have to congratulate them today on managing to get a point at Sunderland I wonder if Rooney and rvp have got out of brown and o'shea's pockets yet

Medical this evening. Overpriced, maybe. A class act. Must defiantly. One of Real's best players last season. And before you say why didn't anybody else want him. There would only be 1 other club who could afford him and who he would go to ( Bayern ) he will mufc a packet in commercial deals so will end up paying for himself...

It is sad to see a once great club fall so low to the situation they are in now, over spending on a player they don't even need. It smacks of desperation.
60 million would get them a whole new defence.

Fall so low in signing a world class player. Yea ok. Biggest pull in English football proving again they can attract the best irrespective of no CL football... The name and club sells itself...

Or he wanted away from Madrid and like u said utd were the only team that could afford him at that price apart from Munich who didn't want him.

No, they are the only club who are that desperate that will spead 25 million over the odds for a big name even though they don't need him. Di Maria will not fix the problems that Man U have. They couldn't even make a simple 10 yard pass on Sunday.

Lucky they have almost signed Di Maria then. Still, with these stats, he's not needed. What a waste.. Attachments:
