It was gripping and unexpected. GOT has so many twist and turns, and not seeing the book, it really keeps you on your toes. Can't wait for EP 3

This series has more interesting stuff to happen. The Purple Wedding was great for the surprise, but there are many twists and turns to come. Remember, anyone can die. When you least expect it.

Aaaah, I've been waiting for that episode for ages. Not quite as good as the book, but even so... Who did it? Was it the Stark girl?

Am i the only one who thinks it's shyte? Have you watched it? I was sceptical at first cause my brother kept on going on about it. But then in my own time, I watched it from the start and it grips you as you watch more and more episodes.

But then in my own time, I watched it from the start and it grips you as you watch more and more episodes. Yes, that's what I found. I downloaded each series from Sky on demand and have watched them recently. One of my colleagues at work said stick with it, you'll really enjoy it and I did and do!

I won't spoil anything - not my style. I was just saying anything can happen. Perhaps you think someone will die, but maybe they won't. Someone that you think will be there forever, is gone. That's what is good.
As for who did it. I'll let that one unravel.

The books are way more addictive as well. I intended to read them in synch with the TV series, but seeing all those books waiting to be read was too tough.

If you were watching really carefully - they did tell you what was going to happen wrt to the various weddings and "surprise" deaths in the middle of the last season.
Think Melisandre & leeches (if you were able to concentrate at all during that scene on what was being said!)........

Was the latest episode shown in the UK last night as it wasn't in the US? It's starting to build up now after Joffrey's death.

It took a week off due to it being memorial day weekend in the US. We all have to wait another week.

So what did you TV-only GoT types think about last night then?
Even though I knew it was coming (and reckon it's thematically good for the storyline - you couldn't have Tyrion getting out of two death sentences the same way), I still ended up staring open mouthed at the telly at the sheer gruesomeness of it all!
And in case you were wondering - no it isn't about to let up this season, there's still more carnage to come!!
[also, to the other book readers - I'm not going mad am I.....the whole Ramsey Bolton/Moat Cailin/flaying Ironmen business was from Book 5 wasn't it? TV writers are really mixing it up - which could be bad news for GRRM as it means they're likely to get to the end quicker! Especially with Books 4&5 being a bit slower and therefore unlikely to stretch to two seasons as Book 3 has done]

They've merged some stories together so that make sense on TV. Plus weren't 4 or 5 a set of books that features certain characters?
The past few seasons, the lines have blurred in relation to the books and it's meant we've seen stuff early.

I'm reading the books rather than watching the TV series, and books 4 and 5 are glacially slow. The author needs a strong editor, since at times he is much more interested in 'world building' than he is in actually telling a readable, comprehensible story.
(As an aside - if anyone wants a 'fantasy without it being all about elves and magic' series I strongly suggest the 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' (and its sequels) by Scott Lynch. Better books than the 'Game of Thrones' series IMO.)

That episode was awesome. As good as the books. It was. First time the TV show has taken it upon itself to kill off characters, I think, as well. From what I recall, Pyp and Grenn are still going strong by the end of Book 5!

I was reading that elsewhere. It'll be interesting of they introduce new characters or change current ones timelines as at least one plays a part in the future book wise.

I thought yesterday's episode was weak. Compare it to episode 9 of previous seasons, which were all revelatory and major turning points, and this one was just a bit anticlimactic. (Although I think this time round, most of the drama and plot twists are coming in episode 10)
The whole Night's Watch/wildling army storyline has been massively neglected this season and as a result this episode, which was clearly necessary to move the plot along, massively suffered for it. Compare it to the Blackwater episode in season 2, where the whole season was clearly building to that episode. This season's main focus has been on events elsewhere, so we're not really invested in the Wall storyline by the time it comes around. Not to mention the fact that by the time Ygritte finally makes her reappearance in this episode after just a couple of cameos earlier in the season everyone's already forgotten more or less about her and Jon Snow so even that lacked the proper emotional punch.
If they had cast Jon Snow better in the first place they could have carried this episode by focusing it on him, as it should have been, both on an emotional level (Ygritte) and in him assuming leadership during the battle. Instead this episode was probably the least engaging of the series.

I feel it was a good, action packed episode but agree it didn't have any major surprises. Well, the ending of the last episode was a shocker and gruesome! I can't wait to see episode 10 and GOT is now the biggest HBO series overtaking The Sopranos.
For me, equal with The West Wing for the best series in the last 10 or 20 years.

The way the books are, stories were bound to suffer at times as they are translated onto TV. But in terms of the story, it's quite an important episode for the future. I did expect something more at the end, but it may well slide to next season.
Bran has been AWOL for an episode or two after featuring early doors.

Well, season 6 starts in 6 weeks. Very exciting. Going to be the first series I watched (since the first) where I have no real idea what is happening as the show is overtaking the books. Though there are some major plot differences between the two.
Just wish Martin would get his arse in gear and finish the book.

Im a big fan of lots of TV shows out there at the moment but for me Game of Thrones is top of the pile. Very excited to see the new series. The episode with Jon Snow and the wilding's against the white walker's was the best episode of TV I've ever seen, simply brilliant.

I went off it a bit in the fifth series. A lot of people just walking around aimlessly and then near the end of the series some of your favourite characters die. Cheers then.
