It's my favourite high budget soap opera, that's for sure.
not such a fan of all the dragons stuff though, fantasy really grates with me

Easily the best book of the series in my opinion.

You should try reading the books!
To be fair, what I remember from the books is the story sets the scene before kicking on again. There is plenty of good stuff to come. Just wait until person x and person y die.

haha, fair enough.
the other thing about watching this series is each episode, although it's interesting that new characters are introduced, I get this feeling of "I can't even remember the names of the existing characters! now there's some f-ing new ones"

It gets mad like that. I struggle to translate the people from the books to the people on screen at times. The eco system is almost too big to be shown on TV.

I've been waiting for the Red Wedding for ages. It's as gory as the books, in fact it was a really good episode as the story . It's not good being a Stark so far in GoT. I can't wait for the next big thing to happen. That one I've been waiting to happen for ages!

I won't spoil it. I'm interested if the fall out from last night's episode will come across differently from the books.

Whilst trying to avoid any blatant spoilers.....
Was interested to see how they did the wedding, especially as one of the characters in the TV show wasn't in the books and was curious to see what happened to them. Of course the answer was that they also got murdered in horribly gruesome fashion, meaning that the TV version was even more horrific than GRRM's vision!
Still, for all those that haven't read the books - best tune in next week too! If this series finishes where I think it's going to finish, then there's another big death (and a minor one) to come! (and if you've been paying close attention, you'll know who.......)

(and if you've been paying close attention, you'll know who.......) Who wasn't in the book? The king's fiancé (played by Chaplin's grand-daughter, apparently)? Yes. In the book, the King's fiancé had a different name, a different back story, wasn't pregnant, wasn't at the wedding and then everyone forgot about her instantly afterwards. They beefed her character up considerably in the TV show - I think to give Robb a bit more reason for being such a lovelorn moron...... In the books, it's much less believable that he should put his whole rebellion at risk for a girl who really doesn't seem to be very interesting.

Didn't Rob marry Jeyne Westerling in the books? I think she is in TV series but elsewhere.

Ooops - apologies for raising expectations.
They instead obviously decided to save the next big thing for Series 4 and finish this one on an anticlimactic note.
Nevermind.....be assured that there's some awesome stuff to come in 10 months time!!

I was waiting as well. I can only assume next season will be even bigger then with what's coming for various characters.
At least the John Snow not being shot with the arrows thing got cleaned up. I saw a few people complain about that.
I wonder if Joffey's voice will break within the next 10 months. I don't think he'll be as menacing with a deeper voice.

There are some big changes coming, but I won't spoil it or even suggest which of the many characters may or may not cop it. There are always the things we expect, while there are thing that happen that we don't. Remember just because we've not seen someone for a while, it doesn't mean they are gone forever. Look at the old geezer that reappeared with Dany.
I'm interested to see how one characters story translates to TV. I'm not sure they will have the time.

So has reading the books spoilt your enjoyment of watching the show?

It's made me more impatient to see how certain things play out (like the Red Wedding we saw last week), but other than that, not really. In the books, some stuff has more time to happen and you get more characters/back story - the TV series is also subtly different as well. This series was actually 2 books that have been chronologically rejigged to make sense for TV.
In the books, the stories were divided up for groups of characters which made things a little confusing initially as you were wondering what happened to Jaime Lannister or Arya. The stories then converged for what is book 4 (I think).
The good thing with the TV series is some of the long ambling prose has had to be removed so the point is reached a lot quicker than it did in the book.
The books are very addictive and you end up reading one more chapter that in reality means an hour has gone by. If enjoy the TV programme, it's worth the effort.

So has reading the books spoilt your enjoyment of watching the show? For me - no, but it becomes a different experience. I didn't watch Season 1 because I didn't think it was my sort of thing. I then got talked into watching the premiere of Season 2 by my girlfriend and loved it - although much of the time, I didn't have a clue what was going on! I then bought the books and the DVD of Season 1, which left me in the rather odd position of watching Season 1 (having already read the book) and reading Season 2 (having already watched the TV show) simultaneously! I'm very glad to have read the books, because they're much deeper and richer. There's even more characters and even more complexity. But it does mean you're never surprised by the show. The "F***ing Hell" reaction that you got from watching the red wedding, I got from reading it instead. Watching becomes more of a curious intellectual exercise - wondering how they're going to translate the story from the page to the screen, and how the writers are going to edit it to make more sense as a 10 episode show......still can't wait for Season 4 (there's going to be at least a couple of really great fist-pumping moments!) but it's not quite the same as if the story was all new.
