Filming on series 2 starts on 25th July which means it's coming to our screens in Spring 2012. Sounds like they are planning to do 10 episodes again

Loved it - wish the next series started tonight! Popped in Smiths at M'bone station and they have got the books so will buy the first two tonight.
Can't wait to tuck into them.
SPOLIER ALERT...............
Did anyone else want the "bastard son" to ride off to war. I am guessing he will have his own battles at a later date but so wanted him to go do his bit.

One reason to look forward to season 2: lesbians!!!!
As for theories - Eddard Stark is way too honourable to have a bastard son, Jon Snow will be his sister's son or something like that and Eddard took him in to protect him.

Very good, this ties in well, so Jon snow is the son of Eddards sister Lyanna and probably of king Robert making him the legitimate Heir to the throne.

Not going to succumb to that either, might pick up the books after its over, then again in september i may get weak and go for them..... Would be curious to read if you have any theories of your own on how this will turn out.

I like Jon Snow, I am glad he stayed at the wall though, it shows that he honours the commitments he made. I haven't read the books - but am very tempted!

I am only 100 pages into the first book (and the TV series very closely mimicked it thus far).
I will go with the following as guesses for the future:
1. There will be a major war in the next series and I think Rob will die. 2. I like the Jon conspiracy (he's not Sean Beans kid and is actually Roberts) - I think it will come to light and Jon will leave the wall and will lead the army after Robs death 3. Big sister is going (engaged to prince) will eventually escape and will marry Jon (as they will not be bro and sister). 4. Daenerys (fit blonde with the boobs) - or dragon lady will lead an army across the sea and that will lead to a war against Jon who will have already defeated Joffrey 5. The little sister is a quandry. As I get the felling she will become a major player in the story. There is no doubt at one point she will be required to fight (Perhaps defending Winterfell from the "Others" who will undoubtedly break the barriers of the wall and there will be a war in Northern Britain. She may end up marrying the "Blacksmiths boy" who is also heading to the wall. He will turn out to be Jon's brother 6. Jon wins the war against the dragon lady but she will survive - I think that there will be a new war where all of mankind will need to unite against the others who will pass the wall and start murdering half of the North. Including the Thessiniki (or whatever her name is!) - who I think will survive any war 7. The Imp will shag everything in site. The incestious queen and her brother will die with Joffrey
A few guesses in there and I am sure there are tens of characters we have not met

As for the Imp shagging everything i think he is about to get a major change of character, going to kings landing will open his eyes to a few things and being of basically good heart he is going to do something against his own family, ie Joffrey, remember the slapping he gave him and was then warned that Joffrey would be king one day and wouldnt forget that, thats a conflict waiting to happen. Special mention for Shaga son of Dolf.....Legend, love his misguided attempt at making an OUFC helmet.

Having never seen an episode before, the girlfriend made me watch the first episode of the second season last night.
She gave me a half hour plot summary beforehand, and patiently answered all my questions while we watched - and I can safely say I still had absolutely no fricking clue what the hell was going on. Far too many brothers and sisters and bastard sons, who all looked the same but had miscellaneous regional accents, to keep track of!
Very dramatic though. And the wee man was faintly hilarious.

Tony - mate, get the DVD (its about £20 and get up to speed) - I promise it isnt that complicated when you have seen this. There are lots of unanswered questions I grant you - but it will make a lot more sense.
I really just enjoyed reading over the thread. I have read all the books so I am well ahead and I can't comment on some of our guesses but lets just say, we were wildly wrong on some things but on others.....
I am saving the show for a week or two so I can watch 2 back to back. Its actually exctrutiating as I have been waiting so long for it (as we all have).
Please do continue to comment thoughts (if not had read the books) as I find it fascinating to see peoples insights.
Anyone not watching - get season 2 on series link immediately and then get yourself series 1. I guess it will be repeated on Anytime/ Sky Atlantic for the next 4 or 5 days so get in now.
Buzzing to watch this......

Seconded, i can only imagine how complicated that must have been if you have not seen the 1st series especially as there was no recap at the start of the 2nd, which given the complexity would have probably been an episode long.
One slight downer is that now Stannis has been introduced to the series it seems that each character gets less air time as they try to fit everything in.

So Dichio- how did you get on with the series? Still enjoying it. Any more thoughts?
Tony - did you cave and get the box set?
Anyone else watching it?
Apparently the most pirated show in the world this year. In the US- its on HBO which is PPV channel on cable. so it's like us having sky and then also paying for ESPN etc So lots of people just download/ stream it.
My thoughts were that it was another good series. Having read the books, the directors took a bit more liberty with the storyline then in series 1.
I am not quite sure how this will work moving forward as a couple of key plot twists that come in book 3 have not been set up (by introducing characters in book 2). However, I am sure, if they wish to - they can bring the characters in season 3 (early) or just write around them.
The next book "A storm of swords" is the best book (in my eyes) - pure immense and I can't wait to see what they will do it. Though the book is split into two and I am intrigued to see if they will do the same for the TV show part 1 in 2013 and part 2 on 2014 as there is so much action/ character development. (This is the rumour I heard)
The problem on the one hand is that book 6, in all liklihood will not be finished until 2014 and then say, book 7 until 2017 (best case). So by that time, the story in the books is a lot slower (in terms of time, I.e. in book 3 it is around 1 year after the start of book 1. As a result, the child actors, who are immense, will be old for their roles in 5 years time). I won't start listing each child character name as not all may make it that far into the story........
I suppose they could break the story as follows:
2013 Book 3 part 1 2014 Book 3 part 2 2015 Book 4 2016 Book 5 2017 Book 6 2018 Book 7
But book 5 is massive (in size) so they could split into two if needed to buyt time, though personally, not sure it warrants it. The obvious answer is to expand the length of the series on the large books (10 episodes at the moment) but apparently, they are loathed to do that due to costs, timings and actor commitments to work on other projects outside of this.
I guess time will tell....
I am just proud of the amount of Brits in the show. We do produce some excellent young actors.

Tony - did you cave and get the box set? Sorry - never did see this post at the time. Yes, I did cave. Quite spectacularly in fact as I not only got the Season 1 box set, but also all the books and I'm currently halfway through the first volume of Book 5. In terms of how they do the TV show - I'm not sure it would make logical sense for it to run the same way as the books? Given that Books 4 and 5 are parallel (at least at the beginning.....I understand they come together towards the end of Book 5) - it would probably make more sense, once they get there, to take events chronologically? That being said, whilst Season 1 of the TV show was very faithful to the book, they did start to change quite a few storylines in Season 2. Who knows how closely they stick to what GRRM wrote going forward?

Tony, I am delighted you went for the books.
As good as the TV show is - the books are just unmissable. As I read all 5 books in a 6 month spell, I found myself dreaming about the show.
I won't lie, I did find book 5 a bit slow but it does pick up and then towards the end, as you said, the timelines join together. Can't wait for book 6. Preying for next summer release but fear it could be a further 12 months.
In terms of the TV show - I believe they are splitting "A Storm of Swords" in to two and you just know where they will end this season - I won't give spoilers......but the letters RW spring to mind.
Agreed, season two (on the box, was a little too expressive and stepped a little far from the books) but had some great episodes. The Blackwater episode must have been one of the great (and expensive) TV episodes of all time.

So a few days to go - saw an extended trailer last night. This will be an epic series - for those who have read book three will be aware, it is one of the best.
It was the most downloaded show of 2012 and if the hype is anything to go by - it will be the same again in 2013.
Can't wait.

It'll be interesting to see where the story varies from the book and how they pace it. There are certain things coming that I can't wait to see how they do it on TV.
I just want George RR Martin to finish the next book.

I just want George RR Martin to finish the next book. I imagine slowly is how they're going to pace it! Which is a good thing. I hear that Diana Rigg, Ciaran Hinds and Mackenzie Crook are all going to be in this season as well. Pretty soon, it'll be rivalling Harry Potter for "highest percentage of recognisable British actors" Think they've already said that they're going to flip things around slightly from the books - they have to if they want to keep things chronological. And there's a few characters that would seem to be key that they haven't yet introduced (and indeed specifically left out of the first two series). Be interesting to see if they get introduced late, or written around.
