Well...we won. You must be distraught?

I'm not quite sure that the criticisms of us in the first half means that whoever posted them are anything but delighted we won.
I thought we were totally disjointed in the first half against a team on a generally awful run of form. The one moment of quality from either team was their goal. The second half started much the same, but we scored and suddenly were a yard quicker, challenging for the ball more aggressively and moving into space better. That lasted for about 10 minutes and gradually waned. After another dull period of the game, we got a second wind and finished the match the much stronger team.
Am I delighted we won? You betcha!

My issue is with those who almost take delight in moaning. No matter why you watch from, you can guarantee you're never more than half a dozen seats from a miserable sod banging on!
This forum is just as bad with the same names rushing on for a little dig but then they scurry off when we win.
I know that everyone has the right to voice their opinions but it just gets boring when you only ever get the negativity.
As for the game, you're right, it took us a while to get a hold of the game but then we looked a little jaded when we didn't turn our dominance into a second goal. Fortunately, we had enough at the end to get a winner against a fairly average Scunthorpe.
Not the greatest performance I've ever seen, but by far from the worst either. Certainly not worthy of some of the comments on here or in the ground. But then I guess some are always going to be glass half empty kind of people who don't get the optimism of the rest of us.

Unfortunately it's easier for people to moan than praise.....its normal for a Match thread to be 8 or 9 pages if we win but 13/14 if we lose

The moaning I understand when things don't our way, it's generally what people are like. But what makes me laugh is the total inability to see why things weren't particularly flowing in the game - firstly the conditions that affected both teams and secondly Scunny's tactics. Turns out that if things aren't going well it can be because of factors other than we are suddenly a load of shit.

Ok my thought first half poor tbh very poor only a Sercs shot, 2nd half must have been a kick up the arse from MAPP and apart from a 10/15 minute patch we were more organised and 2 good goals from Lunny and Nelson/Edwards sealed a good win and 3 points. When we scored our 1st I would have been happy with a draw. Missing 5 of our regulars was a concern but they did ok. Special mention for young Joe Rothwell I do believe he is going to have a good future he is learning all the time and he will be a special player in a season or two. One negative the ref allowed some very robust challenges go felt Scunthorpe were dishing it out but would cry if they were being given it. Onwards and upwards to Tuesday and Bolton. COYY

Who is Toney contracted to? He looks a player and would suit our system lovely. Very surprised he doesn't warrant a start for Scunthorpe.

Brute of a game in tricky conditions. At last we managed to dig out a result against a physical side.
Hemmings made a big difference even though he was on for less than 10 minutes. Martinez totally ineffective.
I would definitely offer the Scouse Lahm a contract - he had another good game.
Ruffels has improved a lot as a player. Some of his passing was impressive.
Scunny very poor. How on earth are they so high in the league?

We will win 4-0, MApp will make a comment about building for next season/still aiming for the play offs/players will need to be managed carefully with all the games coming up. These comments will get twisted that MApp is unhappy/board lacked ambition in the summer/MApp doesn't have faith in the board. There will then be a 7 page thread on said twisted theories so the miserable posters can deflect away from their unhappiness of us actually playing well and winning. That or we will lose 1 nil. Not too far off the mark! Ok maybe not a 4-0 win but Uncle Firoz has made sure the moaners can't get their teeth into a thread about him taking over the club to deflect from the win. Amazing how predictable some people are.

Tend to agree. Thought JR started well then faded - back four looked solid, but for me Lunny grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the 2nd half and drove us forward. I'm guessing Hall, Maguire, Johnson, Hemmings will be back for Tuesday.

Any thoughts on the ref? Thought he was shocking. What was with all the talking to the players all the time? There comes a time where you need to get your card out of players are repeatedly offending. The challenge on Skarz near the touchline on the north stand side was appealing yet he just chats to the player. Toney was fouling Dunkley and Nelson as soon as he came fro. Every high ball. And their number 8 was always in the refs ear and trying to manipulate him by putting his hands all over him. Why wasn't their assistant manager sent off? Was being very aggressive and abusive to the 4th official, yet for away with only a word. He must have left his cards in the car. The dive by Lurch their no.6 deserved a yellow and a BAFTA.

Do you think 5 regular first 11 players rested today will be suitably fresh for Tuesday? I'd think so and hope so... I'd hope so. We saw how good Sheffield United were and Bolton will be of a similar standard having improved since we beat them earlier this season. But who would you drop/rotate from a winning side?

Well we finally won playing ugly. If we can manage another 3 or 4 wins out of the out of the 10 or 12 we lose like that next season we will be up there. I wish I understood what you were trying to say, I really do but I don't I believe GR means this season we will have lost 10 or 12 times to direct/physical sides. If we have now found a way to combat this (win ugly) then we might benefit from 3 or 4 extra wins. The resulting 9 or 12 points would vastly improve our league position.

Was it Nelson's or Edward's goal?

Or Hemmings? All three may have touched it but it was Edwards who seemed to have got the last touch but not even the video replay is 100% clear.

Although, as Edwards said in his interview, I do think the footage clears up the 'offside' element. Understand nobody likes to go down to a last gasp strike - but some of the histrionics from their lads (surrounding the linesman, management team almost on the pitch etc) were mad.
I was fuming that the ref appeared to add that time on again at the end of stoppage time. They spent almost the full remainder of injury time after the goal went in complaining - yet somehow we had another minute or so to see out after the restart!

As many have rightly said on here a terrible first half a typical oxford performance against a strong in you face no nonsense team. At half time we all feared the worst, but whatever map said in the dressing room had the desired effect we came out and from the whistle competed better all over the pitch, stopped being bullied and imposed our game on them and in my opinion deserved the win. Not only did we win this tricky game but also rested a few key players which could tip the balance on Tuesday night. By the way not sure who got motm I thought lumstram had a great second half but for me nelson had a superb match don't know if they credited the goal to him or not but he was my man of the match COYY

Was it Nelson's or Edward's goal? Edwards definitely got his toe on it. I was right in line with it and to be honest if he hadn't got a touch on the ball it would have hit the post.

A lot of fans near me simply didn't watch the game closely enough in the first half to realise we were against the conditions. One time, Edwards lined himself up for a safe header, only for the wind to catch it and it bounce in front of him. It was not easy to clear the ball in those conditions or play cross field balls, so the cat calls of getting it on the deck, stop hoofing it were counter-productive to the atmosphere in general.
It was the first half time at a home game where I felt some people wanted a good old boo (as we've not had many clunker home games) but restrained themselves. But the undertone of the moan was there.

By no means a great game yesterday but a solid performance from a much changed team and an excellent result. Lunny ran the show in the second half and seemed to get forward more with Ruffels alongside him. Nelson did very well for the goal too, regardless of who got the last touch.
Great to get the win after that first half performance.
I thought the ref was good too.
