Ripley - joins Matt Ritchie in the "I'm so hard I even have go at ballboys" club. A w*nker of the highest order. Only a wordsmith like Sarge can provide an adequate description.

OK I've calmed down a bit.. Bottom line is we need a bloody goalscorer. Very unconvinced with Hemmings. When he scored a few a little while back I thought he was gonna go on and have a streak. But couldn't be further from it. Oldham are a nasty horrible team, imagine watching them every week yuk.
Tyler Roberts should be nowhere near the first team. Can't see what he offers at all. Too lightweight. Bad decisions. Etc.
Very frustrating, we look like we could be a very good team, but just need to start scoring more.

Maguire came to life again when icing to the right last 15 mins. He has more space, his trickery and fast feet beat his man and he gets decent balls into the box, as well as running in him self and probably should have had 1 if not 2 pens. I know he prefers the middle , been since he's moved there he hasn't scored from open play. Also his most goals in a season was on the right for Wednesday. Maybe time to see him and hall down the flanks, and play someone else up too or just off hemmings

Stats show 23-3 on shots and 15-3 on corners By contrast in the Shefield Utd - Swindon game the shots ratio was 25:4 but the blades put four of their's ways.

23 shots on target to their 3. What on earth are we doing wrong Ummmm? Appleton noted in his interview that we've had more shots on target this season than any other team (as per another thread on here). Pretty clear what the problem is, surely?

Quality from maguire after the whistle, that goby shit didn't know what was happening getting mouthy to the oufc fans Missed it. What did Maguire do? Gk was giving w*nker signs to the east stand, when they gave a bit back, their defender came over and walked the gk back and started sarcastic clapping the oufc fans, then gave a few gestures himself. Maguire wondered over dropped his shoulder and went straight into him. Bit of pushing and shoving in maguire back as he just strolled off and dunkley got between them . Got a massive cheer from those left

First time I'd seen us play for a couple months, and what a difference two months makes. Lunny looked back to his best, he was running the show, some of his balls in the second half were unbelievable. Johnson at left back actually looked surprisingly effective, someone on the radio after said he was a more complete player than ODowda and tbh he does look it. Defended reasonably solidly from what I remember and got some good balls in. Hall is a madness, he's exactly what we were all moaning we needed, a quick exciting player who takes players on (and beats them with consulate ease) and drives us forward. First I'd seen him and was very impressed. HE faded a bit in the first half (in a period when the whole team did - why tf with lemmings and maguire up front would you play hoofball? looked 1000000x better with the ball on the ground second half) but looked brilliant otherwise. Maguire is unreal. he just does not get tackled, ever, he doesnt even seem that quick one second he's shielding the ball with his body the next he's glided around the man and is off, its surreal.
Not sure about Ledson - wanted to like him more than I did. Displayed some nice little touches but wasn't really the tough-tackling I had been lead to believe he was. Hemmings non-existent. only things of note I recall him doing were playing neat little one-twos with players around the box, which, which, while they were good, are surely more the game of a link-up player or target man - and if thats the role he's playing, surely taylor is a better option? Eastwood howler for the goal it has to be said, was never gonna win it, but otherwise sound.
Others may disagree but I don't think the ref was actually that bad. He gave us a lot around their box, and the penalty shouts at the end were pretty soft. I don't really know what he could have been expected to do about their players' 'injuries' (which hilariously totally ceased as soon as we scored) and I have seen worse time-wasting from a goalie than theirs, but he did give us loads of extra time to compensate. wish he hadn't sent off their player, he was rubbish hahaha, should have kept him on and continued letting RH skip past him.
All in all, wonderfully entertaining second half, players seemed so up for it and not really sure what else we could have done. shame we conceded such a soft goal because they were total rubbish. don't think they strung three passes together all game, seemed a standard below most of the teams i saw us play last season. hope their keeper and captain get bans for the gestures at the end.

Wow. Where to start? Oldham have a seriously bad attitude. Their benches antics were on the side of disgraceful. Reminded of Westley in his Stevenage pomp. Even from the East Stand I could see the 4th being subject to abuse and disrespect. Sadly, the players followed suit. MAPP was right to point out the treatment, but predictably got punished for others sins. Ripley started the 2nd half by giving it to the East Stand, couldn't take it - he should reflect on his attitude because he let him and his club down. Should have gone for the altercation with the ball boy. Completely out of order and extremely classless.
Their goal was offside. By a long margin. Not sure how the Lino couldn't see it but saw loads of others afterwards. But. A bad bit of keeping from Eastwood gave them that opportunity and as a defence, it was slack. Their 24 was a walking red card all game and should have been taken off. One of the thickest footballers I've seen in a while as he didn't realise that being on a yellow means you have to be careful.
Another first half performance where the players didn't fully turn up. A shame. Cracking goal from Hall, chances going begging and over play at times. It was a penalty on Maguire, and Taylor was hauled down off the ball multiple times in the box with nothing given. With the handball missed, we aren't getting that rub of the green again. Dunkley's distribution worries me a lot.
From what I can piece together with flag gate is that both sides let themselves down today. It sounds like flags cannot be waved in games and they were, blocking peoples view - maybe a steward was hit - which makes the following palaver make sense a little more. I've had a couple of close shaves with the flags in the past couple of seasons where the waver has been unaware of the flag being close to peoples heads/eyes and seemed unconcerned when asked to be more careful.
I found some of the abuse towards the stewards distasteful and speaking to someone at half time, it seems the flag bearers let themselves down a touch when the toys exited the pram about being asked to put the big flags away. I only saw a couple of lads in a major huff exit with a box of flags. Cooler heads should have prevailed with everyone but having seen the issue the club have had with flares, some of the fan base (assume unconnected incidents) need to tone their egos down a touch. Sad really as it wasn't needed.
Perhaps the club should've organised a sit down between the Safety Officer and the Ultras so that the ground rules were set. I suspect it wasn't and thus today occurred.

Hemmings is NOT the answer...was he on the pitch today? ? We hardly play to his strengths. He is a box player, he has some nice link up play but I don't think we give him what he needs. Smashing the ball up to him aimlessly as we did in the first half is hardly going to help. He had 1 opportunity that he thrives off...in the first half when Johnson smashed the cross across the six yard box. Aside from that he received little service and unlike some other strikers doesn't have other components to his game. Get the the ball wide and play along the floor with the crosses, that's where Hemmings will get his goals. Despite that, how many has he scored this season?

I just cannot believe that Appleton got sent off, especially after all the hassle their coaching staff caused the 4th official etc for 75/80mins. Their players were a disgrace, feigning injury, time wasting, congregating around the referee at every opportunity etc.
I felt the ref could have managed their antics a lot earlier, but apart from the MApp sending off which was an absolute joke I thought he did OK.
Biggest problem by us was, we just cannot finish. We knew this at the start of the season and it still hasn't changed.
Why oh why did we let Hylton slip away. It's obvious MApp wasn't his greatest fan, and I think if he was then we may just have kept him. I bit like the Maguire situation, but the other way around. It's clear we'd like to keep him, and whether we'll manage that will be a different story, but I bloody hope so.

He ought to be facin disciplinary action for it, and the other one who joined in sarcatic aplauduing the east stand. Wayne Kerrs the pair of them.
