Wes Thomas is a fantastically gifted striker. 20 plus for us this season. Don't be so silly he will never replace hylton. đ at this rate he could equal his goals last season by then end of September

They may have scored against us again but overall we sound like we are having a good game especially Eastwood and Ruffells.

Not yet. Just warming my fingers up for an Appleton out text to Rad Ox. I've not seen or heard the game, so I'm qualified to empirically comment on it in detail.

11 shots on target to 12 off target tells a story not in our favour but I think we've shown endeavour

Just goes to show how far we have to go to be at Championship level.
I'm still waiting for us to put our best defence out at some point.

11 shots on target to 12 off target tells a story not in our favour but I think we've shown endeavour Unfortunately goals scored is the only statistic that counts. Shows what a gap there is between league 1 and the championship. Looks like this season is going to be start stop, in terms of results.

text from a Brighton supporting mate at the game (I couldn't make it unfortunately) "You hit the bar with a tremendous effort and we break and score. Funny old game" Yes, that would have made it 2-2. Still, the game has again highlighted our defensive frailties, not helped by those injuries.

Didn't think that was so bad. Rothwell looked the nuts. 4-3 would have been a fair scoreline. Lualua different Gravy, tore Sam long a new one all game. Enjoyed it though

Rothwell was class, not a left winger either. Would love to see him central, definitely a winger and Curtis Nelson short of being a top team.

My overall opinion (I went before people ask).
Brighton stormed the first 20 minutes and shouldo have been out of sight. On first viewing eastwood should never have been beaten at the front post but saying that the lad had plenty of time to pick his spot into the roof of the net.
We grew into the game and started playing a high pressing game and I knocked brighton a bit. We started playing some great football and equalised deservingly so. Wes Thomas smashed home after hemmings shot was blocked. Thomas loves the back of the net!
Second half and united took the game to Brighton and for most parts had the away side on the ropes. Long put a header wide and Tyler Roberts had a great effort saved. Then sercombe gives the ball away in midfield brighton break. Brighton score. Harsh. Nonetheless United went after them. A ball across the box was begging for ruffels to touch home but he hit the keeper. Lundstram then had a 25 yard shot hit the underside of the crossbar. Guess what..Brighton counter. Brighton score. Brighton then had a player booked for time wasting, said player throws the ball quickly after getting booked. Brighton player crosses Brighton player scores. Too easy. Unfortunately I missed crowleys consolation but I'm glad he scored, maybe some much needed confidence.
Conclusion: we got battered yet could have easily won. Funny game.

Meh, sounds like it was a fun match with plenty of chances at both ends. Shouldn't damage morale too much, and there's no harm being out of the competition - there's far less money to be made in this compared to the FA Cup, unless you do a Bradford. Could do with some midweeks off early in the season.
Very few surprises tonight - most of the lower league teams were battered by the higher league opposition. Although credit due to Northampton & Gillingham for bucking that trend.
