Like the Vinter Whatmore / Aldridge Hamilton comparison. I thought the same way at the time! Of course, we hung on to Steve Biggins for the first few months of the 84/85 season and he bagged a few vital goals. Home to Wolves for one if i remember correctly.

For me, Hylton is a 'must keep'. The energy levels of the whole team are higher when he is on the pitch - he leads by example in that respect. He is the only out-and-out striker that has made much of a contribution as far as goals are concerned (13 so far) and given the choice between Bowery, Waring and Hylton I know who I would pick every time. Is he perfect? Far from it - he is a lower league striker. Is he the most effective striker we have at the moment - he certainly is. If the club decides not to keep him, then they will need to be sure of signing someone that can score as many goals AND that works as hard, and even in that case Danny has shown that he is good as an impact sub late on if he doesn't start. Wouldn't he be worth keeping even if just for that?

How good was Hylts' header??
A stunning cross from Roofe and a Billy Hamilton-esque bullet header into the top corner.

First things first I guess - win promotion, and assuming we do, thereafter for me it's the acid test question - who this season would Wigan and Burton have queued up to buy or at least been pleased to have signed (and ask yourself why) - because that's the teams next season we should be seeking to emulate (and players to keep), IF we go up!

Never looked like a footballer but as you note - would pop up with some vital goals.

Just shows how different people see different things in players, one post said it was clear to see after Sunday's game who to keep and who to let go, some say they wouldn't keep hylton yet he was man of the match. It's a funny old game.

I'm with those who see Hylton as a must keep. Practically all of our decent performances in the last month or so have been when he has been on the pitch, and he has been in the top two or three performers in all of them.
He has the energy, and the pace, to compete in League 1 without doubt. You can see defenders don't like playing against him... Even when battling for 50 50 balls he is much more of a nuisance than taller players such as Bowery and Waring. To me he also has quite a bit of skill and can hold the ball up decently.
Opposition players and fans often pick him out as one of our better players after matches.
Hylton, along with Mullins, Sercombe, Lundstram, Roofe and O'Dowda are the only ones I would be disappointed with if they weren't with us next season. That's not to say I'd be unhappy with some of the others too.

Can't believe we're even discussing it, Hylton needs to stay!
Even if we get better strikers upon promotion he'd be ideal as an impact player/squad player.

Barnsley forum rates Hylton and Roofe and there is a long thread on signing Dunks!

Even if Hylton is not first choice then he would be excellent back up. I would far rather have him in the team or on the bench than Bowery or Maguire. I guess that it does depend on what MAPP has in mind though. Taylor and Roofe will hopefully be here and if Roberts is kept on then there will be a need for a new goalscoring forward in my view. Hylton does seem to have periods when he plays out of his skin and scores lots of goals. He does then have barren patches where even his work rate seems to drop off (linked to him not scoring)
