A terrible day's cricket from England today. So the series will be a 2-2 draw - why on earth have 4 test matches? A final deciding test would have been very exciting.
Vince needs replacing pronto and if we can find better options than Hales and Ballance then they can go as well. I'd move Ali up the order, bring in a proper spinner, dropping Ballance to make room.

The James Vince experiment really hasn't worked. So far he doesn't look like he has the mentality to be a test player. Ballance was a curious choice because his form this year hasn't been great. So we're really no further forward in the middle order than we were at the beginning of the summer.

Rashid should be given a chance in the test team.

Rashid should be given a chance in the test team. He will almost certainly get his chance in India during the winter

Bowled nicely in the first ODI and will only improve given a run in the international side.. Ali showed during the tests series that he is good enough to be the second spinner and bat 4/5.

Anyone thinking Hales should lose his place in the test team? If so who could take his place? Nick Browne or Varun Chopra?

stokes and bairstow appear to have steadied the ship a bit (famous last words).

Both now our, but 22 from 32. Should be easily gettable if they just bat sensibly

How unfit do you have to be to not be able to bowl a complete over, was gutted as well because his first ball was the worst I have ever seen, didn't even land on the square, the next five deliveries would of been fun.
While a good test team Pakistan just seem to lack the athleticism to play the shorter forms.

England could have found a decent middle order batsman. Tom Westley of Essex

Just got round to watching the highlights of the 3rd ODI where England posted a World record 444-3. A superb innings by Alex Hales with his 171, beating Robin Smith's record, and well supported by Joe Root. Once these two departed in quick succession, it looked like that was it, and the onslaught had stopped - but Buttler and Morgan had other ideas by turning the brutality to 11, and smacking it to all corners of the ground. Great stuff!

In the county championship, big day tomorrow. Middlesex well set for a win, Yorkshire looking like a draw. Weather to play a part in both games. The championship is going to the wire. Last game of the season is Middx v Yorkshire at Lord's, may have to get there to see if Middx can finally do it.

Middx county champions went the whole season unbeaten, and what a great way to win it, with a hat trick. You can argue about the contrived declaration all you want, I don't care

I saw most of the afternoon session on Sky. As a neutral, what a way to end the season. Somerset will be gutted after Yorkshire bowled the filth to get a total to chase down. But that is cricket and a hat trick ball to end it was special. I wonder if Jack Brooks will be at Grenoble Road tomorrow?

A decent day for England today. They look to have just taken the game away from Bangladesh after the usual batting collapse. 20 or 30 more runs tomorrow will just top it off for me.

It was fantastic viewing, I do like a low scoring test match. Every run is precious, the ball was doing loads.

Ballance out, Hameed in. Duckett to bat at 4. A more balanced batting line up for me.

I've watched Duckett a lot a Northants. He's a class act. I think he's going to be a great red ball player. Not sure why they opened with him though (other than Hales not travelling). I'd agree with 4 - I'd say that's his natural position right now. So Hameed opening? I like that.

It's pity that we could (realistically) only catch the second half of each day's play as that was a cracking test match.
I thought England dealt with very alien and testing conditions quite well. Looking forward to the next one - it's only a two test series (ridiculously!).

The spinners were very concerning with the lack of control, but the team put a lot of graft in on such alien pitch. Stokes in particular showed considerable maturity that hasn't always been present in his game. If only the top order could stay in

Looking forward to the next one - it's only a two test series (ridiculously!). Look at this 2 test series as a warm up for India and the 5 tests we face. We go straight into test matches with no warm ups so you'll likely see changes for the next test. From listening to the coach I think the batting will stay the same. Think Rashid and Broad will be rested/dropped for Finn and Anzari.

Look at this 2 test series as a warm up for India and the 5 tests we face. That's a bit disrespectful to Bangladesh, isn't it? Surely the match proved that on their own pitches in their own conditions they are a side to be taken seriously, on their own merits?

Oh I agree. Would have like a 3 test series. Just putting it out there on what will likely happen in the next test in preparation for india in November.
