I Not argue wing at all. But the recent staffing appointments suggest they will do what they need to, and bring in the right people. We will 100% not start the season with the same amount of players we have now No we won't, however having 6 weeks to plan instead of 3 would have been nice. But Appletons been here less than 2 weeks , and it could now give him a bit more movement in the wage budget to attract say a striker that we couldn't quite afford before . Loan signings always come late in preseason anyway

The way I see it the football can't be as bad as some of the games under wilder , like the 4-0 in 20 mins. Or the tail end of last season. Can it

Is this the first time in the history of Oxford United that our entire line-up of strikers can be placed in a telephone box? Good luck to Kits, that rare thing an intelligent and articulate footballer. Some of his skills and vision on the pitch were sublime, sorry we didn't get to see more of him.

I really enjoyed watching him play last year and he was really important to us during the first part of the season - after he got injured it seemed as though he lost a bit of that spark and we definitely suffered as a result. Good Luck Dave. it was a pleasure

Well if hewas considering his position over the weekend and read this thread he would have known where he stood with the fans thats for sure, some pretty scathing stuff in here.
Not that i imagine it would have any bearing on his decision. Doesnt strike me as a man who lacks confidence in his own judgement.

He made some huge contributions. A few included his performance at Burton away; that was exceptional. The flick at home which sent Beano on his way was gobsmackingly good. His vision really was top class (best we have had in a decade or more) and when he was pushed up top, he rescued a point at Fleetwood. Plenty more good examples. Whilst lots were frustrated with him dropping back to get possession of the ball, it was no wonder as in reality we didn't have one single midfielder who could do what he did.

Good luck to Dave Kitson in his retirement. It was nice to see a player with skill play for us last season and remind us all effort is only part of the game.
I'm glad he's done it now and not in 2 months time.
I hope he does some sort of punditry as the game is crying out for someone who articulately tells it as it is rather than the nonsense that we largely see at the moment. I'm sure if he decides to write a book, it will be interesting reading.

It was obviously on the cards and very fair to give him time to reflect-glad to have seen him play-best of luck to him and studying for a degree is one option and being a mature student happens to the best of us !

I do think that is the sort of thing he'd do. I can well imagine he becomes a stay at home Dad for a while and enjoys the summer. Nothing better than a summer off as an adult.

I am personally very disappointed with this news.
I think that as part of a 4-2-3-1 formation he could have been very good at the central part of the 3 behind the main striker. Also I think that Appleton is going to play a more positive game it could have suited him.
Finally I think that he could have been really good to help the development of COD, Roberts, Marsh etc.

The eulogies for a man who played 30 odd times and scored 4 goals(amassing far more cards on the way)are OTT to say the least. Yes he was a good player but not for us on the level you lot are making out. Saves a big wage and a lot of injuries but leaves us totally lightweight up front. Makes IL and GW decision not to try to keep Beano all the more stupid now.

I don't know whether MA/DE were already making positive moves back then with IL in takeover talks ( I know they said they ere for a year ) but I feel they would have made some noise over the players especially after DKs interview whether he would carry on or not. Now is the time for answers about replacements under 3 weeks before the start of the season.

I don't think this is relevant to keeping Beano at all. If Kitson had retired in May, Constable would still have gone but we'd be looking for even more players.

Just as we are now then with less than 3 weeks to go. On any ones money that is a p*ss poor state of affairs. Not quite Blackpool but not too far off.

Class act and he will be missed.
That's quite a few goals missing from the last squad-Beano 12, Smalley 9, Williams 7, Kitson 4, Connolly 4, Hall 3, Wroe 2, Rigg 2 Davies 1.
