If he goes then he goes, but I'll wait for official news thanks very much! And I don't care about who said what and when, what I can't stand is the little coded messages by those who claim to know what is hsppening. If you know then give the full story or nothing at all. It's like some shit riddle on here most of the time.
and that folks is the pathetic apology. Seriously grow a set and accept you look a mug (and that goes for a few others too).
People look like mugs because something that was widely expeceted to happen is still widely expected to happen but still hasn't happened? Work that out. Myself and a couple of other posters have expressed our views that a certain other poster is pretending to be ITK about all things oufc. I'm afraid Kitson's retirement (if it happens) will not do much to change this opinion seeing as it was hardly an exclusive. If, however, some actual genuine info was given (what the terms of the severance are, or even the actual date of the announcement will be) then maybe an apology would be in order. As it is though, and particularly due to his childish behaviour, I am just more convinced that it is a boy (13/14 years old?) looking for a bit of attention.

One of the key elements of that elusive word 'judgement' is knowing when to go into bat and when not to. Scotch Egg is more like a kamikaze pilot, bless him. This news isn't even 'ITK'. I don't have any 'in' at the club whatsoever, and even I know that Kitson has retired. I'm sure that there are all sorts of reasons why the club wouldn't confirm this, but to decry genuine information as somehow - how can I put this - "PLEASE, I DON'T WANT TO KNOW, SO I'M GOING TO SHUT MY EARS AND SHOUT LA LA LA" - is just wonderfully, hilariously, genuinely crass. I wonder, somewhat distractedly, what kind of forum Scotch Egg would like. No questioning; no criticism; no rumours; no gossip. A sort of North Korean military circular. I'm filled with a sort of nostalgic admiration for the guy. No curiosity, no scepticism, just blind, adoring, unquestioning faith, translating into bile against anyone who doesn't share the faith. "I WILL WAIT UNTIL OFFICIAL NEWS - LA LA LA LA LA". You've gotta love it, surely? I'm a PR man, and I sometimes dearly wish that most people were more like this feller!

How do I or anyone else look a mug?? Everybody jumped on the band wagon to say he was going. I questioned the sources for this from all those claiming to be in the know. If you're looking for people to grow a pair then look at those saying "I know something you don't know!!" As for pathetic then have a look in the mirror!!! Yet it doesn't mean they are wrong. This club has a habit of being unable to keep people (staff) quiet when they are told in confidence. Your dismissive and arrogant postings of late have made you look a bit silly. Will you apologise tomorrow or the day after or will you just throw out 'if he goes, he goes'.
There is no coded message, he is off and people have been saying it for 3 days.

I suspect the club will decide to announce the news tomorrow. Sorry can't confirm what time.

No I won't be apologising. And if that makes me arrogant and dismissive then boo hoo!!
People say a lot on here, sometimes this will be right, sometimes it will be wrong. That I totally understand.
What I don't agree with is those that give sly suggestions but not the full story. If they are truly in the know then give the full story. If they can't say anything then why mention it at all - especially when it was already being talked about?
If it is already clear that Kitson is going then why not say who's decision it was, whether he'll play another role at the club, any pay off etc?
As I've made clear, I'll await the official information being released by the club - until then I'll believe nothing.

Has anybody actually checked whether Kitson is at Bisham Abbey with the others - surely somebody on here must know the girl on reception who checked them all in? Or whether there are any other players joining the squad while they are there?

I'm sorry to see him go however I can't help but think this will be better for us in the long term. The cash we are freeing up can now be put to good use getting someone in that will play week in, week out.

Glad he's gone. For the (alleged) outlay we got terrible value for money. Let's hope his retirement triggers a few incomings.

So in summary.
Having given it a go Big Dave thinks it wise if he packs it in and has a word with the club last Friday. Michael A (or others) ask him to take the weekend to think it over. Someone is half in the know and posts the news. MA (rightly) doesn't want to talk about it during the Didcot game. Monday comes and DK confirms his original view. Matters are sorted, not much there really but I suspect contracts have to be cancelled, player un-registered, etc. OUFC then announce the news when its good and proper.

Summed up nicely there
Pity it's so close to the new season, less time to secure a quality replacement, but if he's tried to get through pre season and his body is telling him NO, gotta respect the decision and get on with it.
Best DK moment, the header v Dagenham in the last minute

Sad to see him go really, but sounds as though his time was up. Some of the criticism of him I thought was valid - his position was a bit of a mystery and he argued constantly with the refs - but I wouldn't fault him for his effort levels. Towards the end of the season I thought he was trying harder than most of his team mates most of the time. And some really great moments of quality. Favourite memory here was the pass through to Williams that set up the Beano goal at Mansfield.
We should have a big chunk of last year's wage budget freed up - really hoping to see some good signings sooner rather than later.

Dress it up how you like, however the timing is dire from kitson.
3 weeks before the season starts and he had decided he can't do it anymore.
Given the llack of activity to date, you have to wonder just how likely it is that we will secure a second/third striker that is now required - given that we now have half the time to find them.

Quit with the doom already. He gave it 2weeks and 2 games to see if he could go on. That's fair enough in my view. And I'd also rather he went now than missed a load of games and retire in jan or the summer. As for not being able to get other players. Yeah I'm sure ur right there r none out there and were doomed

Hoping for swift action and 2 decent strikers in in the next week. Roberts looks to be the best we have at the moment...

Did I say we are doomed? However, has any of our transfer activity so far suggested to you, that we will be bringing in the 3 strikers (IMO) that are required. Personally, I don't think it does. As for giving it 2 games...he said last season that he was struggling! Good luck to Kitson in the future, however it is just a shame that this decision wasn't made at the end of last season so that we could plan accordingly - with a full pre-season.

Leaves us utterly desperately short however.

I wonder if he wanted a player/coaching role, but with the recent acquisitions to the coaching staff meant this wouldn't be possible? Coupled with him feeling that his body wasn't up to a full season? Good luck Dave, thanks for the deft and clever touches.

Good luck to him. Was always a pleasure to hear him speak or interviewed during his time at the club. A rare thing to see such an intelligent footballer in our squad - even if he was horribly inconsistent after November and his dreadfully unprofessional one man campaign to get suspended over New Years was rather unpleasant on the eye
As others have said though, this is pretty catastrophic for the state of our squad. 3 weeks before the start of the season, 7 senior pros gone from last seasons squad (which was already under strength and under performing), and only 2 in.
Going to be an extremely rough start to the season if we can't get some serious quality through the door in the next week or so.
Appleton's comments about recruitment make me genuinely worried that he is laying the groundwork for minimal player expenditure now, with an eye to more serious investment in January. Our squad is BRUTALLY thin right now

Agree that it's poor timing, but I'm glad he made his mind up now rather than at some point in October, and then he moped around for the rest of his contract. Good luck to the bloke. And hopefully we can get some strikers in pretty sharpish.

He finally realised that although the spirit was more than willing, the body wouldn't let him do it any more.
Best of luck to him. Given his obvious intelligence I wonder what he will do now.

But the recent staffing appointments suggest they will do what they need to, and bring in the right people. We will 100% not start the season with the same amount of players we have now . I think u will find the arguing was done by the people who told me and others that we were way of the mark, and had been made to look silly by kitson just havin the weekend off
