Class act and he will be missed. That's quite a few goals missing from the last squad-Beano 12, Smalley 9, Williams 7, Kitson 4, Connolly 4, Hall 3, Wroe 2, Rigg 2 Davies 1. Very worrying when we were creating less and less towards the end of season, was it something like 4 shots in the last 4 games

Beano scored 10 league goals last season. 18 players in League 2 scored 11 or more goals, the top one scoring 23. I'd suggest that if we're to be successful we'll need a striker who can score at least 15 goals and a couple of other players around the 10 mark. This is going to sound remarkably simple but we need players to win and keep the ball, players to create chances, and players to put them away.
Beano wasn't really a natural goalscorer, he only scored the amount he did as he worked very hard at it. Kitson wasn't going to score many goals in his midfield role, I thought he might have been more dangerous at set pieces but it didn't really turn out that way. Yes he was good at holding the ball and he made some good, intelligent passes but at this level I think it's more important to have mobility. For example the guy who Southend brought in on loan just before we played there, he wasn't very skillful but his pace and strength made up for that and he caused us all sorts of problems. We could do with someone like him but then we also need the midfield players who can firstly play the right ball to him, and secondly to have the pace to keep up with play and get on the end of any loose balls in the box.
Interesting question - would Kitson have made the same decision had Waddock stayed?

Wodner what Kitson is going to do now - my bet is that we'll see him every Saturday night on the Football League Show!
Where does he live - is he quite local? I'd love us to keep him involved on the youth side somehow, as by all accounts he's been doing a fantastic job with some of the Dev lads (Roberts, COD and others) on a one-to-one basis in training passing on his experience and he was full of praise for them in that interview at the end of the season, so I'd hoep we'd eb able to tempt him to stay involved in some way....

Kitson drove in with Hunt and Williams last season, so I would think it's somewhere that was east of Reading towards London.

Interesting question - would Kitson have made the same decision had Waddock stayed? No. It is no coincidence whatsoever that Kitson quit as soon as the new regime took charge. 'Mutual consent' is a euphemism for 'both parties do not get on'

im sure it was more a case of oufc wanting him off the payroll rather then kitson deciding to retire, from what i have heard several offers were made before he accepted!

He lives in Shinfield I've been told Makes sense as it's a big footballer area. Nicky Shorey still owns a house there, so does Le Fondre and there are fair few in one area. It's a typical development, but the nice houses are seriously nice.

I think he walked home from Farnborough- certainly didn't get on the bus. So assume it's near there.

believe that youl believe anything So when it's a asking/stating that he wants to retire. In what way r u suggesting that we then then pay him money to do so. What if a builder starts a 5k extension, half way through he decides he can work anymore, but the customer says oh well never mind here's the 5k anyway, you have a nice rest

Implicit within any contract of employment is that the employee is fit to perform the work function . If kitson is acknowledging that his body can no longer withstand the rigours of a pro footballer I would say the club had a reasonably strong position.

Simple if he's retired due to health grounds or basically he's to knackered, Then is it our responsibility to pay him off? I wouldn't have thought so unless we are directly responsible for any injury he has received which I doubt. If we finished hi before his contract was up then it would be our responsibility to pay him off.

Sounds like Kitson came back over the summer and pre season has already been too much for him.
It wouldn't make any sense for the club to pay him off if he could and still wanted to play for us. Also Appleton asked him to think about it over the weekend so that would suggest Kitson retired out of choice. Good luck to him.
