Maybe they could and should have, but we don't know the circumstances. Why don't know why the club haven't made a statement (there could be a number of reasons) and we don't know why he hasn't played. Personally I find it rather distasteful to insult the player as a first thought, that's all. I agree and that's why i think an early statement by the club on the subject would have stopped that happening. Erh, no, respect and self control stops it happening (call it upbringing if you like). t*at's say stupid things, they always have and they always will. It's hardly the clubs fault. I guess the club could start some sort of 'twats anonymous' to help them get to the root of their problems but I don't think its really their responsibility.

Really sorry for him if this is true. Would a 'medical' not have picked this up? Arsenals medical didn't pick up Kanu's, you'd imagine they'd be pretty thorough.

Without trying to sound callous does this mean it'll free up funds to help out signing Maclean? Would not call it callous but very inappropriate. I didn't mean to cause any offence, especially to MC or his family. I was just wondering what everyone else thought.

The majority of people who were speculating about Cole i would not characterise as tw#ts. There were some muppets making inappropriate comments but the vast majority of those who posted were engaged in an, admittedly misguided, discussion founded on the fact that the club has not made any comment on the matter. Respect and self control have something to do with restraining people from making distasteful comments but there woud have been no arena for such comments had the situation been cleared up by a club statement.

If it is true then I wish him all the best for the future. I also hope he can continue in the game in some capacity. Is the sky job still available?
P.S I know it won't happen

Arsenal were aware of Kanu's heart problem as he had an operation a couple of years before they signed him. I believe Richard Butcher (Macclesfield) who died recently, was reported as having an undiagnosed heart condition.
Health and good luck to MC in the future.

Lots of ifs here. But if we believe that bingomum is right and Mitchell Cole had a heart condition from the age of 15, why didn't his medical before he joined United pick it up, before we gave him a 2 year contract? A really big gamble on United's part. Putting aside any football thing - if this is true then I like any decent human being, wish Mitchell and his family all the very best.

Questions about current health conditions would be standard on any medical but we don't know the full story and if that really was his mum ect.

Perhaps the best way to sum tthis up is that in his brief career with us Mitchell Cole literally risked his life to wear the Oxford shirt and for that alone I salute him. An exceptionally brave man indeed and I, for one, am very proud he was an Oxford player......

yes bingomum is mitchells mum and she's right he was diagnosed whilst a teenager, and was devastated, but he knew the risks that he might drop dead if he continued playing football, but he was determined to continue if he could, that's why he dropped down the leagues from west ham, not because he was not good enough. But even all that didn't stop him, he started again at grays and i think all in all he had a brilliant short career. Blue Sq South title winner and Trophy winner with Grays First Division title winner with Southend Blue Sq Premier title winner and Trophy winner with Stevenage Capped by England C, and first ever England C player to score a Hat trick
I can only imagine what he would have gone on to if he didnt have the condition
So as his uncle i am also proud of him

I was very excited by his signing last summer, and was hoping he would be a fantastic player for us.
Very sad news, wishing Mitchell and his family the very best for the future.

Still nowt from the club on this. It'll be a poor showing if there isn't something tomorrow, especially since the cat is now out of the bag.
For what its worth i also salute the bravery of MC to carry on playing though risking so much to do so. His should be an example held up to the lazier, more work-shy players in the game who have the talent and no impediment to success, but because of fecklessness fail to succeed.

IF / WHEN the club finally make a statement we may be told, until then we should maybe all stop speculating and wait.

Now it's been confirmed I feel I can comment. Although to be fair it's not the sort of rumour that someone would have made up. Sad that his football career with us or anywhere else is over, but at the same time glad that he was diagnosed before something serious happened. He still has a life to live, albeit quite different from what he was expecting. I wish him all the best.

Poor lad, a real promising talent and i wish him well in whatever he turns his hand to next.
Whilst nobody could have known, it seems a shame the ammount of stick he has taken since he has joined us, especially if his condition was diagnosed in november.

As horrible as this must be for him and his family at least he retired and did not have the worst happen to him.
Good luck for the future and hopefully you can have as normal a life as possible.

Whilst nobody could have known, it seems a shame the ammount of stick he has taken since he has joined us, especially if his condition was diagnosed in november. Which is why it is worth asking why there hasn't been better communication from the club regarding this issue. If the fans had been told Mitchell was suffering from some heart problems and was undergoing tests etc, we'd have wished the lad luck. As it was, nobody knew what an earth was going on, so people are going to speculate and ask questions. I don't think he's taken much stick, it was just no one knew what was happening with him as he had pretty much vanished from the squad. Now we know the truth, I wish Mitchell all the best and hope things work out for him.
