Jeez, people on here have short memories. Everyone and their dog knows "we always play badly / lose" when we get big crowds.

Today I received two e-mails. One from OUFC: Title: "The Official Oxford United Newsletter".picture of Chrissy A and some blurb, very little "headlining" the game on Saturday without further input by me.... right down the bottom.... "Buy Tickets".
One from Coventry Blaze (Ice Hockey) Title: "Saturday Night is Hockey Night" then right at the top ...
"Coventry Blaze vs Dundee Stars Skydome Arena, Saturday 7pm Faceoff...... click for tickets".
That leisure pound is easily swayed by the simple things....we need to up the game.

I know of three people who didn't renew their season tickets because of the hike in prices, they decided to pick and choose the matches to go to. So far they have attended a couple of matches each.
It's very easy to get out of the habit of going to the football, plenty of other leisure activities to tempt people with their hard earned.
Personally I believe the price increases were too high and it felt to me at the time that loyal regular supporters were being taken for granted a little.
Agree with others who say that marketing of matches has been poor compared to previous seasons.

I just checked my email - nothing for me. I am active in ordering as have been to 4 home games this season (including last two home league games) - yet nothing. I would assume an email would just go out on mass - I do not fully understand why everyone on the database would not get the email blurb. I can't go tomorrow anyhow - but - unless our marketing is really sophisticated - they wouldn't know that!

The club news letter I believe is a generic thing done by ifollow for all clubs. If u sign into ur online ticket account and go into the settings u should be able to select to receive info I think

I do not have iFollow.
I did receive emails re season tickets in the summer and I did get one advertising Pompey game - but nothing since? For me, I am not worried - I know when I am attending games. But its more about reminding/ communicating with all the others fans whose database information we must have.

If u sign into ur online ticket account and go into the settings u should be able to select to receive info I think And that is exactly the problem....its generic and dull !! Surely it is not beyond the folk at the club to utilise their massive database to do a more non-generic mail shot? If they get an extra 100 turn up its worth it....like many have said getting out of the habit is remarkably easy and getting back into it is easily put off.

I bet some of the people pontificating on this thread haven’t been to a single home game this season... Perhaps. But surely those are the opinions we must take into account as much as any? You've shared yours and that's fine, but you're already attending games, the people who aren't obviously have their reasons. To better understand why they haven't attended, surely it's better their ask and take into consideration what they say? I agree with you that we're playing good football and the price of admission is worth it, but clearly playing good football and hoping fans turn up isn't working, so the club needs to be more proactive. Didn't the club employ someone for social media and/or marketing? I'm sure he had a degree in some related vocation too, in which case, I'm going to assume he'd be able to construct an email and press the bloody send button. It's free and the club has a database of thousands of people. Don't spam people to the point of becoming an irritation, but certainly make use of it! Important updates, ticket news, match reports etc. You could even embed a video with match highlights so people can see how well we're playing! Take the opportunity to survey fans asking them openly and honestly what would influence their decision to attend games more often. Ask them what's important to their match day experience etc. I would personally love the player's involvement more - either a Q&A piece with questions submitted on Twitter, or let the players write/blog about anything. Could be football related, or general ramblings. I would absolutely click on that email!

Saturdays crowd seemed a bit more up for it and the ultras did well with the numbers of them.
If only we had more options song wise, apart from yellows yellows!

But its more about reminding/ communicating with all the others fans whose database information we must have. I'm also a season ticket holder without ifollow and I have just looked and found 2 unread emails this season from OUFC in my 'social' gmail folder, both about restaurant meals for Walsall and Rotherham, neither is targeted to s.t. holders as such. Not sure I would expect that much more, but as you've said, it's more about using the other contacts the club has. On crowds, Sat was 7471 with 608 away, hence 6863 home fans, compared with 7070-689= 6381 for Walsall on Tuesday. Compares with 6699 home fans for Wimbledon on Sat 7th, so a very small rise compared to our previous Sat match.

Well, we have 3 weeks (almost) for the next home league match. The opposition are a little bit local - well, compared to most in this league. Would love to see a push from the club to get 8,000-9,000 home fans. Otherwise - think it will be around standard 7,000 home fans. Then we have the promising (on paper) match at home to Blackburn on a Tuesday. The reality is - with good marketing - we could get 16,000 homes fans across those two games.

I think we should of always expected a dip in attendances this season. 2nd season in the same league, higher ticket prices. If we continue to be in and around the play offs then the number of Home fans will increase naturally.
I have to say I am impressed how many ST we still sold this season even with the increase. It also sounds that people are getting value for money with regards to the football being played.

Slightly of topic but a question to PC 956, on Saturday when the game was over I left the East stand I walked with my Grandson and mate back to the car via the North stand only to be confronted by the wall, why was that there?

I wondered about that too, it's Rotherham who we have never had problems with and I doubt had a big hooligan following. I also noticed the cops were searching about town earlier in the day and were in and out the wig and pen even though it was mostly families in there !
