The more games we play, the harder it gets (no, don't). Scunthorpe 1 Oxford United 2 (On me 'ed son Ledson and Polly put the Kessel on) Att: 5856 with 599 Yellows fans. Nothing spectacular here. No, I mean it - Scunthorpe hasn't got much going for it, I must say. The game will be a cracker, with six bookings. One of the crossbars will break and have to be replaced. Their scoreboard will malfunction and explode. After 45 minutes, the game will stop for around 20 minutes. For some reason, the teams will forget which end they were attacking and start attacking the opposite ends. A dog will run onto the pitch and do something rude to Nelson. That just about does it for me.

I think we gave away some really poor goals last year against Scunny. Defensively, we couldnt handle crosses and long balls. The league games were tight, but I think think year we are a different kettle of fish and look much more solid at the back. Oldham and Portsmouth were both naive and poor for this level, but Scunny will be better organised. Statistically, Scunny to win by 2+ at home was the bet, amongst all bets, which came in with the most frequency last season (against all opposition) but I just cannot see us conceding 2. We need to keep our shape. Restrict their attacks to having a pop from 25 yards.
Think Ribs may have a busy afternoon but we need to be able to deal with the style of teams like Scunny - drag you wide and then pump long hopeful balls to the back post - if we are going to challenge. They also claim their success is down to being able to "stop teams from playing" - good luck with that today. Williamson got it right when saying that you cannot win games where you dont win second ball. That is where we have been excellent in the two games so far. Just think our midfield will over power them and we will have too much pace.
If we win today and especially to zero, I think it will bring huge belief to the players. Scunny outplayed in front of a silent home crowd. One in each half. 2-0 Ruffels and Gino
(Marv has to play - you cannot say he is not for sale then not select him - Thomas to play 60 and Gino 30 - otherwise same as Pompey)

1-0 Yellows....late goal for us hopefully with rave reviews in the press tomorrow. We have class. Last season I would've expected a loss. A draw would be ok but why not all three? Johnson to score raising fears of an increased bid

A tough game but the back four hold tight with the help of some magic from Eastwood. 0-2 to the U's, Obika and Payne with the goals.
A big game and a real statement if we take anything from the outer reaches.

I'd go:
Eastwood Ribiero Nelson Williamson Ricardinho Hall Ledson Ruffels Johnson Payne Thomas
Will be our toughest test so far, but with that front four we would cause them a lot of problems.
Prediction: 1-2, Thomas and Johnson

My attempt to convince my wife that Scunthorpe is the perfect place for a sort break failed. Will be cheering the yellows on from Devon or Cornwall today.

I had tried to convince my wife to go to Cornwall Saturday evening miss the traffic and all that but she said NO! We're going Friday morning as planned and that was Oxfords first home against Pompey of all teams, so I had to read my mates texts, was I jealous hell yes. Best of luck getting a signal๐

Afternoon folks. Not sure what to expect today, certainly not an easy match. Hope that we can keep going as v Pompey. If that works then we should win 2-0.
COME ON YOU YELLOWS

11 member's of backroom staff?! 1 - Manager Pep 2 - Assistant manager Faz 3 - Physio Andrew Proctor 4 - Kit man Mark Jarret 5 - Coach Chrissy Allen 6 - GK coach Wayne Brown 7 - Sports Science Liam Mcsomething 8 - Sports Science guy Scott Daly 9 - Performance analyst Dan Bond 10 - Coach driver? ?? 11 - Masseuse? John Elliot (spike) If John Elliott is our "masseuse" then I have to say she is one poor, unfortunate looking woman, and that's for sure...

Johnson not in squad because of a Hamstring "injury". Thinking about it, this could be true, watching him last week he put in a cross in the second half and then started holding his hamstring and was limping for the rest of the time he was on.
