Well we aren't world heaters nor are we a poor side. Would be nice to see more cutting edge but not worried yet. winning two and loosing one is pretty decent form. Especially if we improve over the season. The transfer window hasn't shut and if we offload Johnson then I'm sure we will improve. Chalk today down as a learning experience like Cheltenham. Think maybe we are closer to success than you imply. There's no point in seeing a season as consolidation as very likely we will see another big turnover next summer. Honestly think that biting the bullet to sign a genuine goalscorer will pay dividends. We are told that there is money to spend - now that we know close we are to a promotion competitive squad, I think that now is the time.... I know we lost today, but in overall play I think we looked the more comfortable. We generally had better shape and more options on the ball. They managed to build up a head of steam second half, but we still always looked reasonably controlled and dangerous on the break. I'm approaching the conductor on the positive bus, but if we lost Marvin and signed a really serious centre forward I'd be rushing towards the front of the queue. Is this the missing man Charlie? stv.tv/sport/football/1395940-louis-moult-will-not-sign-new-motherwell-contract/

Moult looks a good player, but need to remember he has scored 31 in 72 in Scotland 0.43 goals per game. Kane hemmings managed 28 in 41. 0.68 per game. 😉
Moult does look better in the air, and probably more suited to playing the lone striker from those clips though

Let's get Roofe back. Leeds don't want him. Exchange Johnson for him. Won't happen but it'd be good if it it could

As I think we're still due a fair bit from roofe, especially if they get promoted (not dependant on him playing) and we wouldn't get the money for Johno which would mean we don't have to sell a player next season. Better off selling Marv and agreeing a loan for roofe

I'm sure we need a striker in with a good track record to complete the team if we are serious about promotion Last season we didn't have what was necessary to get to the top two. I'd like to see us challenging for top two. Looking at Wigan even after three matches I think they will be genuine championship contenders. Don't think Blackburn will be struggling for long and I'd expect Bradford to be up there too.

The last minute chance made me chuckle... You work on shape, positioning, phases of play all week, and then right at the death your centre half whips in a cross for your goalkeeper to bicycle kick to your centre forward! Just goes to show you how mental the game is sometimes...

Decent performance. Whilst they were direct and generally stronger. A bit more experience and football nounce and we could have taken the points
Lots of energy but missed the important passes which could have opened them up on a narrow pitch. Their robust centre backs won everything and simply pumped it behind us st every opportunity. Thought we helped them build a head of steam in the 2nd half by constantly given them back possession by trying to overplay, when a simpler pass or header was on.
Still team not far away. A striker who can battle score and bring others into play and a ball playing centre mid and we'd be top 4-6

As things stand I'm not so sure the club are planning to sign a new striker during this window. I expect Charlie deep down also believes this and that is why he's pushing to get one in.

[br But having been the one area we struggled against our first real test, you would hope they would look to correct the issue.

I wonder if we were a bit too quick out of the blocks? Ok we won't win every game , but thought we were dominant first half and scunny did well to keep us at bay. Also just watching Silva's tricks and turns was a pleasure. Second half perhaps we were a little tired and Scunthorpe took advantage.
Also nice to visit in August with a nice sunny first half, complete contrast to the the foggy game the other year.
Good noise from the oxford fans too.

We were thoroughly decent against what will surely be a top 6 side. Midfield competitive, centre backs well organised, ricardinho is going to become a cult hero I think. I reckon we are one top league 1 centre forward away from being a top 4 side. They just had a bit more from us up there. Second half, despite no great mistakes by us? They carved out about five good chances, whereas we only looked properly threatening on the break. I totally agree with Charlie, I thought we were the better side for the majority of the game. Scunthorpe will win most of their games at home and are genuinely promotion contenders. Ricardinho's passing was outstanding, it is refreshing to see a player at full back play intelligent passes from defence, rather than the hopeful ball along the line which we've been used to for years. Their goal was due to our forwards not holding the ball up top when we were at full pelt. Just once we were a little naive in midfield, leaving us wide open for the counter, although it was a good finish by Morris. I love that we pushed Nelson up front and that Eastwood was allowed to go up for the corner near the end. We would never of seen that under Appleton. Pep looks like he'll do anything not to lose. We will get better. I hope Johnson leaves so that we can make a real marquee signing up front.

Fazackerly in the fans forum said the 20 goal striker is extremely hard to find. I'm a bit more optimistic, if you create enough chances you will find the net imo. (The 2 off the bar yesterday could easily have gone in) Thomas has scored twice, we've scored 8 this season and scored 100 last season when we shipped out all our goal scorers in the shape of roofe and hylton. I think obika will create a lot of chances, as he did yesterday. I think Payne has a lot of goals in him at this level as well. But don't get me wrong, if we get a 20-goal man I won't complain!
