"THE LANCASHIRE CLUB" would look a little silly I think. Not quite my point, was it? Quite, sorry. It does though make you wonder who can claim to be the biggest club in Yorkshire. Huddersfield as they are now in the Premier league, or Leeds because they have a bigger fan base. Also is there a county that has more league clubs than Yorkshire. Lancashire?

I know what you mean, I must be a right muppet for being positive about a 22 year old who played 28 times for a promotion winning championship side last year! I wish I was more sensible like you in recognising that we only pick up the old and injured! Anyway, how are the summer holidays treating you? Bored yet or are you busy on Minecraft?! This would be a great signing if it happens. My original post said as such. Being positive and blind allegiance are to different things. Personally I feel that signings so far have been poor. But I hope this shows a sign of things to come. I also think that Eales goes on the radio or on record with the Oxford Mail and shoots his load. We are desperate for a press officer or communication executive who controls the message which comes out of the club because Eales is a liability. Sadly it's people who have a tired and tedious agenda like this that have kept me away from this forum.

And anyone who uses the forum name 'Pep out' before the bloke has even been in charge of one single competitive game is more than a bit odd anyway!

There are a couple of trolls on this site but most people are just supporters with their views...

Love the signing and statement of intent from the club. He looks like he needs a good meal, but Payne will add another element to the team. He will cost many away day hot dogs, but getting a lad of that talent in alongside players like Marv and Henry is an ominous sign.

We're going up as f*@king champions!
Sorry got a little carried away there, but good signing and added the bit of quality in the final third I thought we may lack with Mags and Mac moving on. Happy with this.

Feeling a bit more confident now.
Get us some obscure Spanish left back and I'll be ready for the season.

That is another creative player in the mix now. He seems to be a like for like replacement for Maguire, lets hope he can at least match Magg's impact on the team.
Another Striker and mabye one or two leftbacks and I think we're quite strong. I'm gutted we missed out on Tariq Holmes-Dennis. Maybe as we signed Payne upt' North we might bring back a couple of fringe Leeds players with us.

Let's have Kemar back as he seems a fringe player. Seriously though I think we have made a great signing and can't sit yo watch him in action

Just had a look at the Talk of the Town forum. They seem to think that he should go to a top Championship team because he'll not learn anything At Oxford. Well have we got news for them! Have a look.Huddersfield Town fan here. I wasn't the one who made that comment, but I think the comment about not learning anything stems from the fact he's already proven himself in Lg1 when he was at Southend, rather than any slight on your club. The hope was that he'd get regular games in the Championship in 2017/18 & then be ready for a tilt at the first team with us in 2018/19 either in the PL or as a regular in the 1st team if we drop back down. He can probably count himself unlucky in some ways. He was competing firstly with Kasey Palmer, then Izzy Brown (& for a short while - both) for the ACM/Number 10 slot. Two very accomplished players on loan from Chelsea, both of whom will be playing first team premier league football next season. At first though, it wasn't at all clear which of Palmer & Payne would prove to be the better player. The turning point for me was when he was sent off (VERY harshly) at Sheffield Wednesday around mid-way through the season. He was suspended, Palmer took his chance & kept him out of the side, and latterly, Izzy Brown did the same when he came in once Palmer was injured. I fully expect he'll prove to be a really, really good signing for you, and I doubt very much that we'll be looking to bring him back in the mid-season window unless a championship club comes in for him (which is possible, tbf) or a permanent offer is made. Incidentally, here's a video featuring him in action at Newcastle last season:

We've called ourselves "The Yorkshire Club" for a while now, even when we were in Lg1 & had quite a lot of Yorkshire clubs ahead of us in Attendances and the league structure. I have no idea why we're "The" Yorkshire Club (as opposed to "a" Yorkshire Club), but I quite like it.

Sadly it's people who have a tired and tedious agenda like this that have kept me away from this forum. Yep. Although do remember he is Sw****n fan. Glad to see the DE hit squad are out in full force... Not a swindon fan. A very happy yellow until this pre season. All the signs are there that we are heading for the dark times again. Also, really not sure why everyone thinks I'm so young? I'm mid 20's. As a tax paying, contributer to society I can't stomach hypocrisy, as a beloved oxford fan I can't stomach DE.

I would love to know what signs you are seeing that we are heading to the dark times again? Is it the £3 million wage budget? Is it the near £6 million we have received in the last 2 years? Is it the signing of proven league 1 players?

I think that people see you as young as at times your contributions are a little child like. Regarding DE you can't stomach him. How long have you been an Oxford United supporter? I guess that you can remember FK and IL/ Nick Merry? So based on that you can remember what a struggle in League 1, relegation to League 2, relegation to the Conference and then promotion back under CW? So as you will remember DE took over just after Waddock had taken over and for the 2nd/3rd time we had failed to get into the play offs from League 2 playing pretty unattractive League 2 football? If correct then whatever you feel about DE personally (and I assume that he has upset you somehow), you have to agree that since he took over we have had by far and away the best football side you can remember at Oxford, playing the best football and being successful? With Eastwood, Ledson, Johnson, Hall, Payne and a few more, what do you think 'heading for the dark times again means? Do you think that we will be relegated this season? If so you will get very good odds with the bookies so put some money on it. I am struggling to find out what you mean.

How do you get Payne and Henry in the team?
Payne as a No 10 and Henry as right mid.
Interesting that the 2 marquee signings both have their best position as No 10s

IF Johnson does not play left back, you have what Hall, Payne, Johnson and Henry going for 3 positions (if you assume that Obika/ Thomas will start upfront). I reckon Payne will start on the bench on Saturday but it is a nice problem to have.
