Comedy classic, OP put what seems like a reasoned post for all his cohorts under different usernames to batter it to make "their point", the emails must be flying around.. We get that you don't like DE, and DE is not perfect, but he is what we have at the moment so we have to get on with it. The world of PR for you. Once this thread dies down another one will pop up with the same stuff recycled slightly different.

Another great conspiracy theory, propagated by someone who has spent months exhaling dislike of our chairman in a forlorn attempt to prop up his mates who were under fire from DE. As it happens and for the record I do like Darryl. Didn't much like Ashton, it's true, but can still admit his professional abilities. When I say 'new manager, a few new players, no big deal,' I mean it. We all, including you and your chums, need to get back to thinking about the bigger stuff. And this time do it properly.

I don't always agree with Charlie's posts but he is spot on with this one.
There has been a massive over reaction to MApp leaving and this is even with the man himself stating more than once that it was too good a chance to turn down working with international players day in day out.
We aren't going to be making mass signings until a new man is in place. That man will be in place just 14 days after MApp leaving, that is quick in the football world when DE was trying to keep MApp up to the last hour.
There seems to be a small group of people on here and twitter who Eales has upset in the past who refuse to except things aren't as bad as they are made out to be under Eales and will say all they can to bad mouth him. I even saw a tweet yesterday implying DE is a lying c***! That sort of stuff is just out of order IMO.

so you expect him to stay? He hasn't signed for anyone else yet. Last season he took ages before signing so nothing to say he won't do the same again. But the hysteria (mainly from you!) is ridiculous!

This is totally bizarre. I post a thread suggesting everyone calm down over the mapp and players situation. Various people who usually disagree with me agree with me (finlandia, scorchers, Denis' wig) and you adduce a conspiracy between me and various people who disagree with me. I am perfectly capable of knowing someone well and disagreeing with them. That is a mark of civilised discourse. I repeat: this club has major strategic issues for us all to consider. But one of those is not the loss of a manager or whether we get our 2nd or 3rd choice left back. The sooner those many of us on here who have the club's long-term interests at heart get back to focussing on the big picture, the better. And, in my view, toning down the rhetoric on the last few weeks would be helpful in getting everyone to re-focus. But perhaps, for your own reasons, you're not over-keen on examining those issues in detail right now.

Isn't it in the long term interest of the club to have Staff in key roles A stadium A training ground A budget that keeps ur best asset - the manager. And then an explanation as to why it was in the best interests of the club not to sell to someone who was offering to put in the finance to achieve all those key points ?

He is normally very vocal if he thinks things at the club aren't right but on this occasion he is very calm and laid back about it all. I wouldn't suggest making a habit of it but just this once maybe people should listen to him.

I am calm about the management situation because there will be a lot of good applicants and 80 per cent of managers perform more or less to budget. Wilder did. Appleton did. I am not happy about the overall strategic position of the club, as - to quote and agree with the chairman - I don't think we are sustainable as a League 1 club aiming for promotion unless the metrics surrounding our business model change and/or we find a sugar daddy who is willing to drop 2 million quid a year for a few years. But this is hardly a matter for existential panic. After all, we've waited a year for the oxvox report on the stadium. What's another few months? If they wait a little longer they might even get to see water Eaton comprehensively developed before they release a report saying that someone somewhere has told them that it's green belt and can't be built on! I bet the members of north Oxford golf club wish that had turned out to be true!!

I am not happy about the overall strategic position of the club, as - to quote and agree with the chairman - I don't think we are sustainable as a League 1 club aiming for promotion unless the metrics surrounding our business model change Ay, there's the rub. If the greatest likelihood is that a manager will perform "to budget", then it follows that the best way of driving improvement is to maximise that budget. That's why it's essential to have a good commercial and marketing operation which is driving revenue. That's why it's essential to have a stadium situation which, rather than bringing revenue in, actually sucks it out of the club. That's why it's essential to have a good Academy with a conveyor-belt of talent to help subsidise the budget, allowing more to be spent on external recruitment. And to help ensure that any given manager does perform "to budget", it's also essential that there are appropriate training and support facilities in place. As an aside, the story last week about the training ground had Eales' saying that a deal is "99% done", yet BMW are saying they are "aware of the club's aspiration". Those two statements are poles apart! With the stadium, we know that as a worse-case scenario we'll be where we are for the next 7-8 years. With the training ground, we have 6 months until we could potentially be begging to use a University field again...

Myles, I'm not sure that it is "essential to have a stadium situation that sucks it (revenue) out of the club" !!!!! But I think I know what you're getting at (ie the opposite). Clearly, that - a situation where the stadium makes money for the club rather than draining it - is what all OUFC supporters, Board etc want. But how to achieve it? On the training ground, I know that it's not ideal, but Oxford does have a surfeit of very good, under-utilised playing surfaces (college pitches on Marston Road). And the first team support services are, I believe, mostly Portakabin style which means they can be carted around. I'd be more concerned about the Academy, as there are real strictures on that in the EPPP regulations.

Do we want a situation where we are constantly moving training ground and working from portakabins. Mapp stressed in the past just how important the training facilities are. More so than a stadium that u use 23 times a year, as u are there all week. Better facilities also help when attracting better players. We were offered our own section of the new council site, built to spec to suit our needs, and close to the ground. Seems we are cutting off our nose to spite, by turning that down just because we weren't considered to run the full site.

And to pick up "backonthecoupon"'s point, I don't recall us owning a training ground, but the current situation is probably the most professional and stable it has been in my memory. I'd certainly not like to see us return to the semi-nomadic existence which Charlie seems to suggest would be ok. To my mind, a proper training facility with the Academy co-located is what we should have if we have any pretentions of being a "proper" football club. Having to commercially rent two separate locations (one for 1st team, one for Academy) seems like lunacy.

Maybe OUFC wanted to be the owners of their own facilities? the club must be fed up with not being able to manage their own?

BMW are funding the horse path Rd site and we could have it built to the exact spec we require and have it available for the times we need it. Yes we didn't get the contract to run the whole site, but it's still the best option currently available, there isn't the room at city to house the academy, first team, ladies team as well as what city need
