Put things into context, BBC news at ten sports bulletin, no mention of 70,000 plus football fans at Wembley for the final. No mention of either Coventry winning or Oxford losing for a second successive time. Makes you think. We are not news worthy. Rather sad really. It's a reserve team competition.

Today did show that we desperately need more depth into the squad or that it is spread more evenly. The bench, attacking wise, was a joke.
Was it just me, but did the Ref miss a blatant shove on Hemmings in the box at 1-0. It looked very obvious from where I was but clearly not on the pitch.

It's a reserve team competition. FFS. Unbelievable. Sorry? It's a fact. The disciplinary procedures mean it's technically a reserve team competition.

When Lundy started waving his arms to get us going I could have shot him, we were shit, not one of our main players turned up today, we got f*ck all because we deserved f*ck all, don't try and get us going when you are not doing it on the pitch. Lunny, maguire, Johnson, dunkley and ledson got found out today, they all think they are great Not today totally agree. if you want us to start singing give us something to sing about.

I wonder if anyone feels the same way as me:
We were actively bad for the vast majority of the game. Misplacing short passes, losing every 50/50, losing every second ball, the works.
We were decent (note: not GOOD) for about 20 minutes. in those 20 minutes, we created SO MANY CHANCES we should have won easily.
That's what grates about today so much more than last year, or even most games. We honestly didn't even need to be GOOD to beat them. We just had to be not actively bad. Which, for some unbelievably frustrating and inexplicable reason, we were for the majority of the game.
A further point: I felt like Johnson was playing for the cameras today. This maybe unfair, and I may have been influenced by the midweek reports of Man City sending south to watch him, but I felt like he was playing for himself all game. I went to the game with 8 OUFC virgins and the majority of them singled him out as our worst player - having been assured by me before that we was our best. So many unnecessary cross field balls, so many fruitless dribbles, i felt like he knew he was in a cup final on national TV today and was looking to put himself in the window.

For those that went, was it a good day out at least? Standing next to someone in the urinals and they did a p*ss so hard that it splashed back and a drop hit me in the face and one of the sinks was full of sick. So no. In the face?! Are you just really short or was this the most forceful urination ever?!

I agree with all of your post except potentially the last bit. I'm not discrediting your argument, however I think we looked to Johnson and expected him to just do it on his own. The complete lack of support he got forced him into ridiculous cross field balls or running into blind alleys. Not once did he have the easy option you see him regularly take. You can credit Coventry for this in part however we just weren't good enough collectively. He was okay for about 8 minutes.

Gutted today. Just watched the game back.
After the match I was annoyed at Hemmings performance. Having watched it back I realised his biggest problem was he had no one near him too help him out. Maguire or Hall were nowhere near him and the balls into him weren't that great.
In the first half it seemed everytime we got the ball we were always trying to get it out to Johnson. Why didn't we try something else, it became to obvious and they got two men out there when he got the ball with a third on his way.
We had a lot of possession, but didn't create anything with that possession we lacked a killer pass and attacking movement off the ball.
Unfortunately, for whatever reason we didn't click today.
Coventry won today because they had the strength of character, which was the only way they were going to win. Full credit to them. We could have played at 75% today and them at 100% we would have one. Unfortunately we were nowhere near that.
Fair play to Coventry, they were the better side today. We've got to learn from this, move on and get ready to Fleetwood on Wednesday.

Liam Sercombe's interview on YP is interesting, maybe just anger after the defeat but he mentions feeling that he should have started, being unhappy with how many games he's featured in this season and feeling like he's not been given a chance in his true position. Definitely an unusually candid interview and a player who's clearly not happy

Thought the referee was very inconsistent and when he did give stuff he tended to favour Coventry.
The lad who scored the first should certainly have asked. He looked straight at the ref almost pleading not to book him. Turns out he was the one who cleared it off the line at the end.
Rothwell was poor for Johnson. Didn't offer nothing when Johnson had the ball. Not even a movement to take away one of the two Coventry defenders. Johnson was fighting 2/3 players all afternoon on his own.

Oh well, at least one positive came out of this.
We can now all agree that this is TECHNICALLY a reserve team competition. Seven in a rowwww.
In all seriousness was a tad gutted when the FT whistle went, mainly because I felt we didn't really turn up. In fact, I can't remember one of our players having an above average game?! Was about 10 pints down at this stage though so probably not in the best position to comment.
That being said, another great day out which will live long in the memory. Was in the torch from 11 and the atmosphere was fantastic. Even better than last year.
I said it at the start though - scoring the first goal would decide the game. In fact I say that for most games we play. Our style of play is perfect for teams that come and have a go. Think that's why we have much better away form and get some decent results against top half teams...

Lots of knee jerk reactions...as usual..on here. I watched it back last evening when home. Interesting pundit comments too. Also Robins felt they were largely chasing the ball and would have struggled had we equalised. The general consensus..and after second viewing I concur..was that Hemmings needed runners around and beyond him and they were slightly critical of Hall, Maguire and Rothwell in that respect. I felt Hall was overawed by the occasion and had his poorest game. Also, when he was one on one for the chance of an equaliser he lacked any conviction but the easier option was to square to an unmarked Hemmings for a tap in. They felt Johnson was very good and he seemed to have a better game..not brilliant but better..than I thought live. Hemmings worked hard but missed a half chance near the end. He has neither the pace or aerial prowess to play a lone role. We missed McAleny cos Maguire does not play the no 10 role properly. He drifts into midfield and wide but rarely got around or beyond Kane. On replay it should have been a penalty. Clear shove in the back on Hemmings in slow mo. Clear improvement when Sercs came on. Not just his goal but his energy. Out of contract and listening to interview can see him leaving. Hope I am wrong. The last min golden chance was bizarre. Great reaction save from Ruffles header but though laying on the ground Edwards had an open goal 1 yard out but somehow scooped it to only defender standing on opposite side of the goal. For those continuing to disown the competition it bas earned the club close to a million. That will come in very handy in the transfer window, I imagine. Result not the end of the world but performance was disappointing.

Totally, but we went from looking to pay fees for 3 extra players. To only being allowed to bring in loans if others left. That's not leaving mapp much wiggle room is it. You ok fella? you seem to keep taking little digs at de a fair bit letely Great so you can't even comment on players being let go, or new ones not brought in, without it being a dig at the chairman now. Maybe stop trying to read something into everything. The club is bigger than 1 man. Ps I also had digs at rob hall and maps tactics yesterday if you would like to keep them in spread sheet for later

The ref. has got away scot free largely on this thread - he was poor and missed clear infringements. I watched the game again when I got home last night as I recorded it and wanted to get a better perspective on what happened. We didn't play as bad as I thought we did - should never have lost that game. Cov - excellent shape out of possession - they had to be - and kept everyone behind the ball. Oxford, after the opening goal, had so much of the ball but looked one paced. First goal was fortuitous. Lunny should have leveled though after Dunks headed back across goal - big chance. Hemmings fouled in the box but can see why not given as a pen. The commentators were highly critical of Rothwell especially, for not helping out Johnson enough and were convinced Rothwell was injured. He just never got into the game. Johnson overall had a decent game and easily our only threat. Cov doubled up whenever and wherever he had the ball. Great technique for their second goal - what a strike as was Sercombe's goal. The massive moment was the Hall one on one for sure. He should have squared it. Cov got lucky at the death when Burge saved the header from Ruffs and Edwards could not follow up on the line. As Junior said - Birgirimana cleared on the goal line when he could have walked earlier. It was not our day. MAPP will be kicking himself with his selection. He won't have slept a wink. NOT playing Maguire down the left with Marvin - they have a great understanding together. He gambled with Rothwell on the left - could have played Hall up top with KH and played Sercs right hand side. I can see why Ledson started though. MAPP unfortunately got the big selection decision wrong. Enjoyed the day though.

Ok it was disappointing but not worth all the overreaction. We lost because: 1) They took their chances well and although not a great side they stuck to the task 2) We were tired from a demanding season 3) We do not have a large squad 4) Their support was larger and provided more encouragement for the players, as typified by Lunny's arm waving 5) I did not drink my morning coffee out of my Manor mug
All the above with varying degrees of plausibility.

It's done now though eh? I can understand Lunnys arm waving as when down on the pitch the players can hear the fans from both ends more than we can stuck in one end. Also that Cov lot above us were pretty noisy throughout. Having said that It is hard to get going when the team are not doing it on the pitch. The lads will be as disappointed as we are but we've ALL got to pick ourselves up for Wednesday night, this is a big game too, it's not over just yet. COYY

As always some good comments on here, and some odd ones too :-) They were very lucky with the first goal. The ricochet could've gone anywhere but dropped at his feet. Good touch and finish tho. Could we have been tighter to him on the cross? Deffo a pen on Hemings. But at the time I thought it was shoulder to shoulder. So I'll let the ref off. Great second goal for them! We had several very good chances to score and really should've been level if not in front. But if you don't take the shot or hit the target you can never score. How did the ball stay out at the end! Arrrrh. In general Not just yesterday but in many games this season we don't have it right in the final 3rd. Not enough players getting forward to support the 1 up front. The Commentators said the same thing. I think this is something we need desperately to sort out next season. If we want to go up. The first real save I remember their keeper making was about an hour into the game! That's why the fans didn't sing. I've said it before an I'll say it again. Atmosphere is generated by the football on the pitch fuelling the fans excitement. Sure you can start off singing and being excited but when your team doesn't even force a proper save from the keeper until the second half it's hard. The amount of times we could've shot but opted to pass was incredible. I don't think we can realistically make the playoffs. I don't think we're good enough consistently to win through the playoffs even if we did get there. Sorry.
