Like Morrissey, I started something last year that I couldn’t finish.
Unlike Morrissey it was a match day thread on a lower league football forum concerning the Football League Trophy final (unless Morrissey was singing about that – unlikely though).
Some may use something called ‘evidence’ as to why we made the final last year like us outscoring all of competitors in knock out competition and not letting in many goals, but I think we all know the real reason. Me starting the match day threads! Time to banish those ghosts. With Malc’s permission this one is underway two days early rather than the traditional one with the correct match date *eyes at Lincolnyellow*.
This will be no walk in the Wembley Park. Coventry have had a small but hopeful boost in recent games, will significantly outnumber us in fans on the day, will be up for a game at the national stadium where they haven’t been since 1987 and have nothing to lose. Let’s not forget that one of their rare wins this season has been against us. No complacency from us as fans nor the players.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about MApp is that we act totally professionally. Utmost respect for who we’re playing and a methodical approach to how we aim to win and maintaining our discipline. It’s been key to how far we’ve come – just take the feisty Swindon matches we’ve played under him as an example to the cool heads kept – and I expect the same on Sunday. Even if the football and individual performances may falter, the attitude won’t.
Time to etch your names in a little bit of Oxford United folklore, boys. It might just be the FLT, but it’s still got the word ‘trophy’ in it and you don’t get that many chances to win one of those.
COYY!!!

The only thing I know is that this will be a damned sight harder than league position would suggest. A lot will depend on who's fit and who isn't. WE should win, but..................

I'd rather not dignify the sponsor on this occasion. They had a very churlish attitude when people were grumbling about the competition before. Also, the trophy itself has remained the same throughout so I'll call it by its proper name and not by the marketing gimmick attached to it on this occasion. Got special dispensation from the mods. Cos I'm proper special .

Quite frankly I'll be happy when this is all over. The B word and the B teams have made this month quite a bizarre and ultimately depressing at times. No fan should feel the need to boycott watching their club at Wembley. It makes me quite to sad to think that idiots like Harvey have used the attendance of good natured OUFC and Coventry fans who just want to support their club for their own selfish gains.
I hope everyone who is going has a safe trip to and from Wembley and ultimately enjoy the game and the day. You are better than arrogant wankers like Shaun Harvey and his PL paymasters.

Won't be there (holiday) but want the win. Nothing more to say except anyone who thinks this competition has been anything more than a Premiership sideshow is deluded. Slippery slope.

Sad that you guys think this is the way, but i respect your standpoint for whatever your valid reasons. My own view is that, for all the shite times we have suffered, we not only want, but deserve our moment in the sun.
I fully understand and agree with the sentiment of b teams, they are completely wrong, but this is much, much bigger than this. We stand on the threshold of something quite special here at Oxford, however it has happened, we have unlocked the key to our success and i really believe that, if you have seen us play recently, then you have too. This club is moving forward in the most incredible way, and we should support it no matter what we feel about this abortion of a competition. Because we want the best for all connected with OUFC. So, if you see some idiotic fan dressed as a complete t*at on sunday, then come and say hi, because that t*at will be me. COYY.

Harvey has really messed with your head - not sure you're going to recover from this Bob. Letting Harvey get deep inside your brain like this is incredibly sad - he's not worth it. The PL f****d the game years ago - we're even looking at at 9.30am kick off next season for Chelsea v Arsenal! The battle was lost a long time ago. You should be with the U's at Wembley and make you're feelings known there. COYY

What about suspensions for the rest of the season if there's a red card? Or has that not been decided yet?

I understand you are entitled to your opinion Bob. I am just a little surprised that you don't leave it there until after the final? Most people are getting pretty excited about the game now and so I am just not sure why you would want to constantly post on something that you are not going to and only want to post negative things?

Read in the Oxford Mail that their first choice centre backs and 2 others are ineligible for the Final. A cov fan on the other thread said this has been exaggerated a little and they are not their first choice and certainly not their best, out of the four he reckons only one would have made the starting 11

Personally I think the boycotters are being hard on themselves. I will watch with interest next year (if nothing changes) how many fans attend from the 2 teams in the final. It would be a shame if our boycotters were the only ones every to see this through. As I've said before it's easy to say you wouldn't attend a final you're not in. That hopefully is the last I mention the boycott. As from. Ow I'm looking forward for tomorrow and couldn't give a damn who's going and who isn't

Not going and happily so, but will be finding somewhere to watch up North. I'd like to see the looks on people's faces when they put on a British game with 70,000 attendees which nobody has heard about.
This is the only game in my life where we are at Wembley, being watched by so many, and I couldn't care less what happens.
We will win though, the pitch will complement our style perfectly, and players will want to put themselves in the shop window for summer. 5-1 United.
