Did we have to chose a game that doesn't mean anything to win at Southend ?

So, a win at Sarfend is always something special, even if a lot don't care. We're in the hat/bowl/lounge bar still

If we're saying the scum 'win' on penalties didn't break our 6 in a row surely we can't say this is finally a 'win' at southend?!
Either way, I suppose progressing to the next round is good for general morale and no injuries is a benefit, but I still refuse to get excited about this farcical and patronising competition

Hoping it was a decent run out and an opportunity to maintain match sharpness for Saturday.

They've stopped regionalising the rounds this year - another stroke of genius - so anyone can play anyone, anywhere, in the next round. Blackpool or Scunthorpe away is pretty much nailed on. If Carlisle hadn't gone out that would've been the front runner.

Yeeeessss!!!
Onwards to glory, let's revenge our final defeat last season, bring on Reading under 11s, we shall vanquish Norwich girls under 13s, tear apart Crystal Palace over 50s walking football team (well win on penalties) before a glorious victory in front of a less than quarter full Wembley against Brighton LGBT (and whoever else fancies a game) in the final.
When the last humans gather, just before the Sun goes out, this, Oxford United's momentous victory in the EFL Checkatrade Trophy 2016/17 season, will be final tale that is told, a fitting swansong for Homo Sapiens.

You can't lose or win a game if both you and the other team get points at the end of it. Southend were knocked out of a completion, therefore they lost.

Still 3, I'm afraid! This just puts us in the last 16. Thankfully they've done away with the two-legged semi-finals, otherwise it would still be four to go! So far, our choices in the next round are: Wolves U21 Blackpool Swansea U21 Chesterfield Brighton U21 Mansfield Scunthorpe Luton Yeovil So, universally terrible. But there's still three games in this round to go tomorrow, one next Tuesday, one on Wednesday 21st and one on Tuesday January 10th (WTF?) What a ridiculous competition it's turned into this year. It used to be pointless. Now it's pointless and random.

It's still a downgrade on all previous years where the entire thing was regionalised right up to the final. It's always been a pain in the arse competition in one way or another; don't think making a last 16 fixture between teams 200 miles apart is helping anybody.
