So after debating whether to come down from Chester for the game tonight or not I have woken up and the match day bug has got me so I will be making my way down the m6 just after lunch.
I expect it to be a tougher game than Saturday but I am still confident we can get a positive result. Gillingham have started to pick some good results in the league after an indifferent start.
Team prediction:
Eastwood
Edwards, Nelson, Dunkley, Johnson
MacDonald, Lundstrum, Ledson, Hall
Maguire
Hemmings
Score prediction: 3-1 to the Yellows (Maguire, Hall and Hemmings. Dunks own goal for them)
Crowd prediction: 7307 (183 from Gillingham)
Disclaimer: I apologise if starting the match thread AND turning up is too much of a jinx and if we fail to get a positive result I take full responsibility

The Gills have won their last 2. I have a feeling we dont have a good record against them. But, they have the 2nd worst defensive record in the league. Am hoping for another win, 3-1 on a cold wet Tuesday evening, attendance just over 7,000.

I'd go with Ruffels for Johnson. I assume Hall will be subbed fairly early in the second half after playing Saturday and what a nice position to be in to bring on Johnson at that point. Ruffles is the better defender and deserves his chance. Other than that 3-0 would be lovely as I think giving away a penalty and knocking six bells out of Skartz is enough action for Dunks this week. I'm sure he'd enjoy a nice calm clean sheet much better. I'll be bringing the lucky gloves again after a great run last year and a good first run out on the weekend. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves but we could be looking up at the play off places from a comfortable position heading into the weekend. Hemmings x2, Maguire.

Hope not. It'd be nice to play after Saturday's performance. I can see a cagey 2-1 for us after going behind just before fall tome. Another Hemmings home goal and Johnson scoring at last. Not a big crowd....6701 with 256 from Gillingham

We do have a shocking record against Gillingham; W8, D13, L18.
Also, the last 7 matches have had either 0 or 1 goal.
All set for a classic then.

No matter what team starts for us they need to be quick out of the blocks- again, as they were Saturday. Also, playing some longer passes proved fruitful and the ability to chop and change during a match means the opposition are under constant pressure. It would be a massive disappointment if we do-not keep the momentum from the Coventry match going into this one and take all three points.
I believe we will, and the icing on the cake would be to keep a clean sheet. U's 3 Gills 0.

Any danger the game could be off due to the amount of rain that's fallen?

Looking forward to this one. I think they normally set up 4-3-3 with Wright holding and Emmanual-Thomas playing the right of the front 3 and being the main threat from set plays. Nouble (or Dack) and Konchesky provide the main threat down the left, so Edwards and Macdonald will have to be at it...however that leaves plenty of space behind the left back. I think if we get at the Gillingham defense early (Konchesky and Ehmer specifically) as we did Saturday we will be looking at another good win. 2-1 Oxford

Good shout with Johnson left back, I don't rate Ruffels at left back at all.
Could there be a pitch inspection? Given the amount of rain we've had over the past 3 days there may be a few puddles about.

Looking forward to this one tonight. Only the 3rd game I've been able to get to this season (Charlton and Coventry being the first 2). Hoping we can carry forward some momentum from the weekend and pick up another win, and push us a bit further up the table.
I'd go with Ruffles at LB, rest of the team stays the same as Saturday. Think we'll win 2-0 (Hemmings, Maguire).
3 points, clean sheet and hopefully no more injuries......not too much to ask for is it!!

Has Johnson ever had any experience playing at left back? Suprised to see people preferring him to play over Ruffels.

Fair enough, I remembered something like that from the Merstham game but didn't know if it had been taken any further. I think personally I'd still be happier to see Ruffels come out there, and it'd leave Johnson for an impact sub, will be interested to see what Appleton comes up with though.

Tonight's match is important for more than the three points available. We beat a very, very poor Coventry side on Saturday. But we did it with a much 'harder' style of football. It will be interesting to see if we keep up that style and if it brings the same result.
I sure as hell hope so!!!!!!!
