Funny, looked to me like Nelson just threw the attacker out of the way, the way his arm follows the bloke. What? Their player has fallen the opposite way to the way Neldon's arm has moved. Their player looked for it and the ref has fallen for it. Yeah it's hard to see from the highlights but it definitely appears to me as if their player throws himself to the ground; if you look carefully his torso doesn't jerk forwards with his limbs coming after as you would expect from a hard shove in the back, rather he appears to just collapse.

Seems like we are letting down the fantastic form of the other newly promoted sides. A boring and at times frustrating season looms large now. Get real, chum. Forget about what others are doing, and look at a club that has not been mid-table in the third tier for 20 years. A club that has known humiliation, near extinction (many on here will never know how near we were to that), and two decades of watching desperately bad football unbecoming of our entire history. And imagine those youngsters unlucky enough to grow up thinking that losing away to Droylsdon was the norm! For a club that could and should have played in Europe... We are now back where we belong, in the top three tiers of the game, playing against clubs with equal histories or in some cases better. And we are holding our own. I remember, just three or four years ago, going to Vale Park and watching us getting thumped 3-0. Could have been 6-0. And you think that what we are seeing now is 'boring and frustrating'!!! Given the changes forced on MAPP in the summer - with two of his three best players exiting just when he needed them - to be mid-table is a really decent achievement. The football is enjoyable, our fans are really showing what the club is made of (home and away) and we are in a proper competition, where every week the other side both try to win and have the resources to do so. For me, there would be nothing 'boring' about this season if we bumble along in mid-table. I guess the only frustration will be that there don't look to be many teams a heap better than us, so inevitably we'd be wondering 'What if?'...... Unfortunately I was that youngster who thought losing away at Droylsdon was the norm! I first started going to matches with my school friends instead of my dad circa 2007/8, and I'll always remember one of them didn't want to get promoted from the conference because he thought we'd get smashed in Lge 2. I had only been going since 2003 so all I knew was disappointment really. Now I'm still drunk on promotion and really would like to be emulating Wimbledon's league position, or better still doing a Burton. I don't think it is unrealistic to want to be doing better than Burton or Wimbledon!

Their player looked for it and the ref has fallen for it. I disagree. I watched it again and Nelson is moving him across the box ahead of the ball, when their lad sees he's gone too far he hurls himself to the ground and Nelson whips his pushing arm (his right one) back in a feeble attempt to look innocent. Almost as convincing as Jeremy Irons in any role that c*nt was ever in.

It always amazes me that when a player gets the slightest touch/pull they fall in the opposite direction which the ref should clearly see as them trying to gain a penalty rather than legitimately getting one, and this looks like one of those situations to me. Never mind, it's not going to change now so hopefully we'll get our few soon.

The problem yesterday was that nobody learned. After the first two or three soft fouls it's up to you to stop getting too tight or sticking legs out - we failed to do that and thus it became OUR problem, not the referee's. He made it very obvious he was giving everything and nobody reacted, and that's what cost us. Ryan Taylor is one of the best dead ball specialists in the country, forget the division. He made an entire PL career out of set pieces, and we gave him far too many opportunities to swing free kicks in because we just didn't learn that any light shove in the back or any outstretched legs were getting punished. Both goals came directly from his deliveries between the first and then the foul for the equaliser. They could easily have won that game just from his set pieces, and I was delighted to see him subbed. If he'd been fit enough to stay on for 90 minutes they'd have won that game.

Just back from Vale. Thought Nelson did OK, a bit rusty but needs a run in the side. With Sercs patrolling right MF Lundstram and Rothwell kept getting in the same space, Lunny needs a rest. Johnson was good in the first half especially as he was up against Taylor but his head dropped after their goals and it was not a surprise that MApp pulled him after Maguire had chewed him out after a dud set piece. And Crowley would be a good player if he was a foot taller. Oh well some light at the end of the tunnel at least. Explain please. How good would Messi be if he were a foot taller?

Just watched YP highlights. I think we played some excellent football at times.
We are playing great football in a good division with an amazing owner and manager. The only concern is that the players didn't seem too excited when we scored either goal. I loved Dunkley's passion. He had a Ronaldo'esqe' tantrum when they got the penalty.

I loved Eastwood's Jorgi Campos impression. It was almost like Oxford were 10-0 up in Fifa 16, and the player got bored so decided to bring the keeper out to try and dribble up the pitch.

Only Vale learnt the Ref was gullible. In the second half I thought they were auditioning for the High Board in the next olympics. Had there been a Russian judge there he would have surely given a bunch of straight 9s. Hey Ho... 'Twas ever thus.
Entertaining game though.😁

I don't think it is unrealistic to want to be doing better than Burton or Wimbledon! If we'd held on to a win against Port Vale we'd be sitting one place behind Wimbledon so it's not like we're miles away. This league is tight and we're more than capable of holding our own. And with players to come in, others to find form and a chairman willing to put his hand in his pocket, there is no reason why we can't put together a decent run after Christmas. When you are raised on the misery of our relegation years and the conference days I can understand your negativity. But in 95/96 we plodded on for much of that season until hitting top gear after Christmas and got promoted from this league. As Charlie has said, midtable is by no means failure and is a decent platform to push on from. It might not have the same excitement as being in the top 3, or the stress of being at the bottom, but it provides the stability we all need. If that is boring then I'll take boring for now!

I remember us only losing once between then and the end of the season.

Absolutely staggered that anybody could define any of this season as 'boring' having been through the last 15 years.
If that is the fact I am enjoying being bored ...
