And you wouldn't want the pitch being used either

Much as i dislike the Grenoble Road ground, the fact is that it's 70% ish built already thereby avoiding many of the bigger planning issues that a new site would involve. If it can be bought at the right price within a framework that avoids potential further development problems and spats over things like use of car parks then it's probably the best way to go. I think most of us wouldn't dislike the stadium as much if and when it's 'ours' - and providing the name was changed. I have a horrible thought that the present owner might make part of any deal to include the retention of his name on it. That, to me would be a deal breaker, imo it needs a new identity, as well as a 4th stand, of course. Perversely, that the stadium is still, after all these years, incomplete, might help in 're-branding' it, once said 4th stand is completed - and it's re-named, the whole 'feel' of the stadium will change, in a positive way.

A 2 tier 3.5k capacity 4th stand named the London road end and the away fans being housed in the east stand would be my 'pipe dream'.

Mr Price said he wanted to see the move happen as soon as possible and added it could allow many more community activities to be held at the stadium. He said: “A community trust owning the stadium would be a very good idea. “The club is a huge asset and if the stadium became a community asset it could potentially be opened to other uses. “That could be as a conference venue, a venue for youth activities and you would have a potential for the playing surface to be used too. ----------------- Hardly "chucking their weight behind the scheme", no mention of them backing this financially, more like saying it sounds like a good idea (with my inference that the council don't have to pay for it but the community get some benefit). Clearly he also doesn't know that the stadium already is used as a conference venue, and as for saving £6K on hiring out the venue for kids finals, well I'm sure that will get the council to chuck millions at it. Council, as well as other parties (Oxvox / FK etc), are not going to disclose the finer points of the deal just yet. That will all come out in the wash. The point being is that they are more likely to invest / loan dosh / find FK some land to build on etc on a scheme they fully agree with than one they fully oppose. Without the council's backing, I presume that the scheme would be pretty much dead in the water.

But don't you think if Bob Price / the council were looking at getting involved financially that they would already know about the Conference facilities?

Reading the quote does not indicate to me that they are unaware of the facilities. It is the access to those facilities that are either not made available to the community or are prohibitively expensive. No where does it say that they are unaware?

There was no parking at the Manor and the traffic in and out of Headington was a nightmare on match days (pretty much any day during the rush hour). As pointed out by others, not every club has parking facilities, I would guess that OUFC have more parking available than most.
Couldn't the trust allow OUFC to Manage and run the Stadium Facilities in exchange for a reduced rent. With most of the non-community event profits going back to the club.

Personally I dont get the big hang up about parking. There will always be free parking no matter who owns the stadium. Even if the overflow goes we will still have one of the biggest free parking areas in proximity to the ground than any other club in the whole football league.
The transport links are improving and need supporting. Even a 5 min walk to BBL gives you an easy and simple journey back in to the City centre.

A sensible post from Junior On Tuesday next week the car park at the Ricoh Arena will be charging more than a tenner to park there! When we went to Wembley last season it took hours for the coaches to get out of the car parks and ages queuing to get on the trains. Getting out of the Kassam isn't the nightmare that many people seem to paint it out to be.

Wembley has great transport links as well yet you still have to queue unless you leave early or sit in the pub after, it's the number of people using them at the same time. Most large events involve traffic jams, people have to accept that that is the price you pay for attending.

As someone who travels from outside the county the transport links are not great..There is no enjoyment from doing a tour of oxford from the train station, a journey btw that takes longer than the train journey in..Then after the game you can stand waiting for up to 30 mins for a bus and often 3-4 come along a once and it's like sardines on them, also not great when you have train to catch.

But that's buses for you, have used them all over the country, at big sporting events and it's a similar experience. Public transport is what it is, you can't blame the club for it. Where ever we go there will always be traffic problems of one sort or another, the price to pay for attending. You either put up and take the queues, find a way around it or just don't come. Unless we get really shit again it will always take a while to get out straight after a game.

Not suggesting it is the clubs fault but buses have been layed on from around the city/area by the club, an obvious one would be a direct bus from the train station to the stadium. Btw it's the "just don't come" fan/s that need to be encouraged to attend...A customer at the stadium can be spending their money on food, drink merchandise etc, the one doing a tour of the city can't.. just a thought.

Have you tried the bus that goes from the top of high street? Used it a couple of times after a few beers in town and it's so much quicker than the BBL bus. Drops off and picks up from outside the stadium as well.

Have the club never tried that before? Might be an idea to have a bus direct from the train station. My point was more that people perhaps need to lower their expectations of how long getting away from the ground will take as crowds go up, once you hit a certain number it's not going to be like a Sunday morning drive.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but didn't want to start another thread on the purchase of the stadium.
The stadium is used by OCC for several of their large meetings . These happen quite frequently and they also use other venues.
I hate the fact that the Council are handing over money to Firoka.
However if they were part of a group purchasing the stadium surely EVERY OCC function could be held there thus saving thousands of pounds for us tax payers.
In fact some council staff could work there rather than renting office space elsewhere in the county.
Thoughts?
