Really good summing up from theflyingox Hemmings looked extremely lively. Johnson will come good and I'd like to see both start at Roots Hall. Bolton will be a really severe test. They haven't done well of late and will be thirsty for three points

When did we go 442? I though Maguire just moved into the no 10 role in the 4231 Not too good with systems, maybe it was the personnel change that just made a difference, i.e. Hemmings for Taylor, and Macdonald coming on. I just wish we didn't seem to suffer with injuries so much, and thus allow Appleton to choose his strongest 11.To think when the following return, it will give him a real headache selection wise; Thomas, Ribero, Nelson, Hall.

Ummmmmmmmm......... I thought the majority of the game was really BORING, lots of passing and pissing around but no end product!!. Would you really want to watch THAT every week?? I don't know where you have been watching your football, but that was anything but boring. Both sides contributed to an entertaining game with plenty of incident and atmosphere. if you cannot see a game like that and enjoy it, i suggest that you need a reality check. Did you actually go to the game? Both teams contributed to a top class game for league one football.

Entertaining game today. I think the result shows we can hold our own in this league, more of the same and we will be safe.

Know what u mean, hall I think when git will come in opposite side to Johnson, Nelson will come back in as he is the best centre back at the club and we paid a decent amount for him, he may have to wait for his chance if these two keep playing like this though. Thomas and riberio may just have to wait for a lucky break, or play off the bench, cos with Hemmings and Edwards fit I can't see them starting ahead of either

I thought that Johnson was getting into decent positions in the first half but just didn't get the ball when he would have been the best option. This may have caused his head to drop a bit and kind of give up.

By golly...... everyone on here is suddenly a football pundit!!.. the game was BORING with the odd glimpse of sunshine. The game was "cat and mouse" and went nowhere [ I will concede odd bits of good play].
Football is dying on its feet ...... oh I do enjoy a lovely bottle or 3 on a Saturday!!

The challenge on Sercombe was a straight red judging by the highlights. The challenge on Eastwood was naughty as well - the player didn't need to dive in like that and take out a player. It does highlight the bizarre rules that seem to be in force this season. Little nudges and fall overs are stonewall free kicks that are readily given, worse stuff isn't.
As aside, I wasn't that impressed by their young lad Lookman. Not sure why anyone would offer £6 million for him. Has talent, but when things get physical, he's like a cat given a massive fright.

I thought it was a generally entertaining game, although I though quite a lot of our passing was a bit aimless. There was a lot of giving the ball to a bloke who was already marked who then passed it straight back whence it came. Two passes - no gain.
Although I usually have a lot of time for Taylor (in that I think he is good at holding the ball up and laying it off - not that I think he is any sort of goal scoring striker) - we looked much better when Hemmings came on and Maguire played more centrally. I still think we lack pace in many areas and that movement off the ball is lacking. Some of our corners and free kicks were woeful again. It's a bit frustrating because I feel we aren't far short of being a very decent team, but it just isn't clicking at the moment.
A draw was probably a fair result - a win at Sarfend would make it a good point.

Like most on here I thought it was an entertaining game played at a good pace. The step up from league 2 is a lot more than I expected and i sense that some of the players from last season who have not played at this level are still adjusting. Thought Hemmings looked lively when he came on and he is a different type of forward to Taylor. However Taylor was on for the first hour when games are much tighter, players are fresh and space is at a premium. We need to see Hemmings from the start in the single striker role to see whether he would be more effective.

Tight game; thought our centre backs were great. Maginnis looked useful for them.
It's so good to see Oxford players treating the ball when under pressure as a friend after years of Phil Trainer, Simon Heslop - and dare I say it - Beano.
We are comfortable in this league already; a decent achievement in view of the significant increase in quality across the board from l2.
This league is going to be very competitive.
Our fans were good again today - no moaning at any stage.
Two gripes . Johnson doesn't make enough runs. But he will come good. Plus what was Edwards up to with their penalty?
Thought Sercombe was excellent; great energy all game.

Ruud Gullit thinks that the hand to face on DeBruyne is a penalty. I wonder what he'd think of Novak flattening Skarz's nose today.

Some of our corners and free kicks were woeful again. We were sat behind the wheel-on goal during the warm-up when the forwards (let's call them that) we're doing net practice from various angles and situations. The only guys who got it consistently on target were Maguire, Macdonald and, to a lesser extent, Hemmings. For the most part though, it was pretty dangerous sitting in the East Stand.

Exactly what I said 😉. Although he wasn't alongside, if u look when we didn't have the ball Maguire drops deeper behind Hemmings

Yes, some bloody good football at times. I thought the game had it's moments, but was uninspiring and similar to last week's game. Not sure where 2000+ fans were from the game against Swindon? How you cannot return after that is unbelievable.

Thoroughly enjoyed that game. Entertaining and decent passing football with minimal niggle. Can understand those who want lots of goalmouth incident feeling it was less inspiring but the quality of some of the football was very good and there is clearly a gulf in quality between leagues 1 and 2, not least in the defensive arts. Eastwood os outstanding, very commanding. The back 4 looks solid and the midfield options are excellent. Felt Lundstram was good, Rothwell impressive and Sercs nearer the standard of last season. Maguire is worth the admission money alone. Maybe just lacking a cutting edge at this level but Hemmings looked more promising in his 35 mins. Taylor's lack of pace is maybe a big minus. Johnson showed glimpses and feel sure he will ultimately prosper...maybe trying too hard to impress. With Ledson still waiting for full debut and Nelson and Hall closing in on fitness the quality is impressive.

The Sky highlights are a bit odd - showing the second yellow their player got but no sign of Eastwood's excellent save. The penalty is a stupid one to give away, and any push seems pretty minimal. Pity Eastwood where didn't just stand where he was mind, that was a terrible penalty!

Their fans need a reality check, they can't understand how come they are so low down in the table, I can, it's because the're not good enough to be any higher, I thought it was a fairly even game and a fair result.
