Not a heskey fan at all. Just trying to provide an example of a striker that did more for the team than just score goals. Matt tubbs scored far more for Pompey along side Taylor than he did without him

Fair enough, what if u looked at his as more of a supporting midfielder role, supplying chances and space for macca Maguire and which ever striker ? Than an out and out striker.

If Taylor can play the Hamilton/Toshack role like they did for Aldridge/Keegan nobody can whinge. Though some will

I'm positive about the whole squad I just don't see Taylor keeping his place Thomas looked sharp and could tell he had a bit about him. The midfield will be all ex premiership youth players so obviously to be kept on the books at Man U, arsenal, Everton, west ham so long they are easily good enough for this league. Back four looks strong, big and organized which is a big plus looked shakey at times last year.

We looked very good attacking at the end of the season with out a Taylor/Waring type of player. But he Definitely has his benefits. Hopefully the squad will be used as needed. Teams that are very slow play pacey attackers. If they are a big ugly side strong at the back, Taylor could prove invaluable

I'm in the not that impressed with Taylor camp. He wins some headers yes but how many of those headers went to our players. Don't think him and Wes were on the same wavelength yesterday they were playing too far apart.

Losing Mullins, Wright, Hylton, Roofe, and O'Dowda = a team with a losing mentality I have to disagree with you. It was inevitable we would lose some players and players like Roofe and O'Dowda had already caught the eye of managers elsewhere earlier in the season. That we also lost Wright, Mullins and Hylton was perhaps a surprise but two of them have been snapped up by another league 2 team which is probably their level and I wish them good luck for the future and Wright was picked up by CW which was no surprise at all. We do not have a losing mentality in my opinion, the fact we were able to hold a strong Leicester team to 2 1 shows the character of our players I believe. I look forward to a successful season.

Anyone else think that the Leicester players were dirty b'stards. The ref let most of their fouls go, especially in the first half.
A lot of un-sportsman like behaviour from Gray and Danny Simpson kicking the ball away at throw-ins etc.
I always found the Leicester fans to be a bit nasty when we played them at Filbert Street and that they were very ungracious towards us last night. After-all it was only a Friendly!!.

Not sure how anyone could think the defence was ok,it looked very shaky and at one point 3 of ours stood and watched a ball loose in the box without reacting (memories of 2/3 seasons back) and one of theirs swivveled and shot just wide/over, you're not get awy with that too often. their first goal whilst well taken was poor defending (again 3 players there) and one would hope that in a more competitive game that nobody would allow a free unchallenged run at our goal like they did for the 2nd.

Funny all these differing views with everyone at the same game!
I thought Thomas looked like he was on a different planet most of the game and didn't know what to do. Whereas I thought Taylor had a good game latching onto the ball, holding it up etc and was a decent physical presence.
Martin was excellent in defence and put a great tackle in when they were one on one. Also a nice diving header back to Eastwood.
Didn't rate Ribero compared to Kenny or Baldock.
It's tough really because Ribero and Thomas are both completely different style to the players we've had in the past season.
We definitely need more attacking options and someone who can find the net to compliment Taylor.

Thomas looked lost and not sure he's what we need - Too early to judge though, particularly considering the heat and opposition although I do feel like we lacked the team spirit and togetherness that we had last year, looked like too many individuals in 1 team

Greetings Yellow fans...Leicester fan here...shortly to move to Woodstock from Stoney Stanton but temporarily living near Gloucester ( keeping up so far ? )
Anyway Leicester are my team for the last 30 years but I was born in Oxford and went to school there. Family moved to Leicestershire when I was 16. Intend to support the local team from now on though save money on fuel.
Anyway back to the match in question a party of twenty of us met up for yesterdays game. We all agreed what a quaint stadium the Kassam is, moreover quirky. We suspect that wind tunnel could be a real problem when the winds in the right direction. Lovely playing surface though.
A typical higher league v lower league friendly to be honest. WE didn't want to embarrass ourselves and you wanted to impress crowd and manager. Generally the lower league players raise their game on occasions like this.
Cracking goal by whatever his name was, Casper said that's one of the best strikes that's beaten him to date. some plaudit ?
We picked out your Right back, Centre Half and Captain as the better players on your team ( well I suppose its my team now) don't know their names but most of us agreed the three of them looked comfortable on the ball and could play a little or have played at a higher level ( are we warm ? ) The rest were industrious and certainly put in the effort.
Your defence was solid and believe me the City front row were fighting for a starting berth last night.
I think you (we) will do well this season and I saw enough to invest in further trips when I move in August.
Only advice I would like to depart ( not wishing to be condescending ) football is a team game both on and off the field, supporters included.. So get behind the team and each other and don't expect too much...its amazing what can be achieved if you do, and I think I can say that with some authority.!!
Only downside yesterday was some of your fans ( and I use the term loosely because all clubs have them ) gave the guy upfront, who was trying his hardest against two of the toughest defenders on the planet, a real hard time with some uncalled for abuse..
Look the guy is a second division player for Gods sake ! We thought he did rather well !
See some of you in the Autumn hopefully.

Probably the most remarkable achievement in the history of English Football..
I thought both sets of fans were very complimentary of each others exploits last season.

We all thought he was quite good to be honest. the crowd certainly gave him a good round when he was replaced. The Captain was very good also both looked good passers of the ball.
Oh god that's just ruined the day, nay year just heard Spam Allardyce is the new England Manager ...have we no ambition...will we never learn ?

I've said this before on this thread, but it bears repeating...... We were playing the frickin' Champions of England! They had a level of pace, movement and fitness that are unlike anything that our players are used to facing on a daily basis. And what's more, Leicester worked incredibly hard as well - which I found a huge credit to them given how much they've achieved in the past twelve months, and that they were playing a team from the third tier (which is a fun thing to say after 15 years!) It's not exactly surprising that our defense looked a little shaky at times. They were probably a little spun around by the type of football that was being played against them. Given that, I thought they did very creditably. If gaps like yesterday are appearing when we play Barnet on the 30th or, worse, Chesterfield on opening day - then it's time to worry. Not after a narrow defeat to the best team in the country last year.

Yeah, I absolutely agree that Leicester fans are entitled to a bit of arrogance after last season - I've even been on your forum to complement you, because I honestly think it was the best thing that's ever happened to the Premiership. But those two things are not the same. I would rather suspect that I could get better odds than 5000/1 on Oxford beating Barca 10-0 in the CL final in my lifetime!

Yes it was the champions but how does that stop any 1 of 3 making a challenge inside our own penalty area? that's a defenders natural reaction to a ball coming into the box is it not? do you think the coaches would just say ah well doesn't matter nobody made a challenge as it was the champions we were playing...bad habits can creep in etc etc etc... The 2nd goal: yes the guy ran with pace but he never sidestepped 2/3/4 of ours, not 1 of ours even moved towards him as he approached the area. there were also 2/3 times they took a quick corner with a pass to the edge of our area which nobody reacted too, get caught once fine but not 2/3 times. I have also said that it is a new back four and it will take time to get used to one another and i would like to think that wont happen again come chesterfield, that is what pre season games are part of but better to cut out basic errors or preferably not allow them in the first place whatever the opposition.

I saw Premiership teams do the same against Leicester last season. We're a newly promoted League 1 team.
I kind of wished we hadn't had this game as I knew that we would:
1) Most likely lose 2) Therefore have idiots on here moaning about it
But then I was pleasantly surprised with the performance, how we could have easily drawn, and how we attacked them and opened them up at times.

Moaning about it? are you sure? or simply a case of seeing the game and having observed a few basic errors pointing them out in response to others thoughts that the defence did well. Has it really reached the stage where there's little point in making a comment on any subject.

When you're playing the game at a pace you're not used to, you're going to make mental mistakes. It's unrealistic to expect otherwise. From that perspective, Young Money is absolutely right - in terms of preparing us for the new season, it's wasn't much use as a fixture. But it was a good money-spinner, and I imagine the players enjoyed it. Brighton will be a more appropriate test, and Barnet should be the perfect tune up. If players are still failing to pick up players and make the right challenges when we're playing the rather more ponderous Bees.....then is the time to be critical.
