How about a few big trees? Throwback to the manor. Could do £50 for a family size branch, £10 singles and maybe £20 for a tyre swing.
Just a thought.

Compared to most grounds in the lower leagues, ours is more than adequate. A fourth stand would be great but the economics don't yet stack up. It's adequate for the number of supporters attending, but not atmosphere wise... For reasons pointed out regularly. This season this atmosphere has been fine. Why? The team is good.

Today's Oxford Mail (Friday) says the club have looked into the possibility of building a temporary stand for the Wycombe game... But GBT says it's unlikely due to the time it takes to get the relevant safety certificates.

Why does it have to be at the fence end? put two temp stands in the corners of the east stand solves the problem of toilets and turnstiles as you can access through the east stand

Probably because of access for emergency services should they be needed, i.e. Ambulance, heavens forbid.

So, the club does want to do this and, according to GBT:
a) It is not FK vetoing the 4th Stand. b) The club is confident of selling another 2,500 tickets. c) The only thing holding us back is foot-dragging and bureaucracy from "the authorities".
Surely this is where fans can exert pressure on the council and its elected members?
Council officers can do things very quickly if the leader of the council explains - very plainly - why this is important to the community.
I am going to phone the council today.
People who live in Oxford might want to phone their councillor.

Seriously it takes an Oxford Mail article for u to believe the club "do want to do this" when Eric myself and others have pointed out dozens of times that was the case. In fact this article is pretty much an exact copy of one of Eric's posts

Not an exact copy, no.
What people have been saying in this thread was:
a) The club looked at this before Wembley and ruled it out then. b) The problem is not just getting a safety certificate but getting past Stadco and FK who are 'demanding a financial contribution".
What we now know, according to GBT in the OM is:
a) The club looked again at the idea this week. b) The club are pinning all the blame on the authorities from the council, not Stadco or FK.
If that is so, there is the capacity for democracy to kick in and people can lobby their councillors.

"He made the relevant phone calls and THE PROBLEM WE FACE IS THE AMOUNT OF TIME YOU NEED TO GET THE RELEVANT CERTIFICATES FROM THE AUTHORITIES. I pushed quite hard and asked them to do their utmost for us, we’ll see, but it’s not looking likely."

Again ur just picking up on the bit u want, read to the bottom Box Turnbull, who will be on the away terrace with the rest of United’s board for the crunch clash at Carlisle tomorrow, said: “It will come down to cost.

If it is down to cost couldn't we just get a 500/1000 stand what ever wwfc bring, put them in it and sell the 1500 north stand tickets. Saves on cost of putting up 2500 seats. Don't care if they are in a shit little stand with no atmosphere. Probably a few issues in getting them a bit of a refund as they have paid for a covered seat.

Lower down on the report it states that 'it will come down to cost' So my reading of it would be that it will be tough to get the relevant planning certificates etc, but if it doesn't make sense from a cost perspective, then it wouldn't be worth all of the grief.

As I commented below the article on the OM site, even if we try get the council to rush the bureaucracy, given how they will have the results from the Hillsborough inquest fresh in their minds, I doubt any of them will be in a hurry to pass this one through.

Without going over old ground, I've just re-read all of my posts on this thread and I'd say that GBT's words in the Ox Mail pretty much bear out everything I said.
Now I didn't post (and am not now) to be a smart arse, I posted because I felt certain people were over simplifying this, and therefore making it appear that the club had done/were doing nothing about it. That was not true, as you can all now see, and I feel that the club does not deserve some of the implied criticism that it was getting.

This is all very promising for our fanbase. Daytrippers don't buy tickets to a game they wouldn't know about 10 days in advance. That shows we have at least 10,000 of these 'real' fans at the game on Saturday and a further few thousand all trying to get tickets by other means. I got in super late so have to go alone but hey ho, you take what you can get.
I hope everyone needing a ticket gets one. I think you will have some luck if we end up 4th tomorrow!

As Eric has pointed out there are a lot of hurdles, paperwork, clearances to obtain, obstacles to overcome to get a temporary stand up and operational for a match day. If it was to go ahead, then I assume, the club would also be starting from scratch with regard to the specification of the stand, the plan to install it, approval process and everyone who has to approve it also would be new to them. This situation is going to crop up again (Sometime, don't know when but it will be at short notice) therefore it would be a good idea, over the summer, for the club to decide on a specification of a potential temporary stand, then pass this specification to the Stadium Company and the Council, the H&S people and who ever wants a say on the situation and obtain some form of provisional approval. This would get 80% of the approval and planning process out of the way prior to the next time one may required. If the club know what they are getting and all parties know and understand what is coming then I'm sure the paperwork could be done in two weeks and a temporary stand could happen next time.

Agree strongly with this. For what it's worth, this is what the council is saying: "The timescale being considered was not practicable or feasible for it to have realistically come forward this season and the club did not submit an application for a temporary stand." I doubt if the club has ever put more than a tentative toe in this water. Probably more than before - but that's not saying much.
