If anyone ever had any doubts that we need a new stadium, last night must have blown those thoughts out of the water. What a f@cking nightmare. Left home at 5.50pm,got to the Abingdon north junction on the A34 at 6.15,got out of the car (parked by the Sewerage farm gates) at 7.30 !!!! 75 minutes for what 4 miles ? Cars abandoned everywhere,no police helping at all. Get to the ground with a few minutes to spare, stewards outside the North stand demand to see our tickets and searching us before letting us in, another steward demands to see our tickets before going up the steps, only for yet ANOTHER steward demanding to see our tickets at the top of the stairs before letting us take our seats ! People still managed to sit in the wrong seats, resulting in the stewards insisting the people in the wrong seats moved(despite no shortage of empty seats,)meaning we had people stood up in front of us and moving about for most of the first half. The 3 seats next to us had the wrong people in them, the rightful owners turned up THIRTY minutes into the game !(they also all went for something to eat 10 minutes into half time and returned 15 minutes into the second half) After the match(we left 5 minutes early due to the traffic shite),not allowed to walk behind the North due to the fact the club/TVP still refuse to keep away fans in for 10 minutes, one bloke with a kid of about 3.(who he was carrying) pleaded with the stewards,"he's falling asleep, and your going to make me walk all round the ground ?" "yep" was the reply. People talk about building a fourth stand,f@ck me,if that happened and we got a full house, you'd have to have a half day at work to get there in time for kick off. Only good thing about last night, the TVP jobsworths didn't book(as far as I saw) any of the abandoned cars parked on the verges all down the road. Rant over, Signed Angry of Wantage.

A34 is only gong to get worse. It's nearly impossible for many fans to make KO on a night match unless they leave work early. Parking is always worse on night matches . I know the back roads and street parking, and still missed KO. What chance have new fans got? Not the clubs fault though. Wherever the stadium is it will need a train station and much better parking if we want regular gates over 9k. No chance with Championship gates as it is, even now it does put loads off going.

The only thing with these arguments, is the new stadium will have the same a34 ques. As as much traffic getting from Kidlington roundabout and pear tree as there is from heyfordhill

10000 people trying to get in and out of the same place at the same time will always lead to congestion.
We don't NEED a new stadium. Most of us want one yes, but right now what we NEED is better transport to the one we have, e.g. a matchday park and ride from Redbridge, proactive marshalling of traffic at the ground, more people approaching and leaving from the south on the A4074.

I think what made it worse last night was the ntfc fans coming down the a34 as well.
They need to fence off the paths and then Marshall the crossings so you have a better flow of people crossing the roads and cars trying to leave.

We will never have a new stadium. End of thread. Probably right. On the plus side when we get to the championship and get a 4th stand I will be able to get some serious hours in on football manager on my phone as I arrive at 9am on a Saturday to get a car parking space.

Only a good train/tram link to the stadium with regular services on match days will make access easy, regardless of where the ground is.

We need the Science Park to help us ideally.
There is plentiful parking there and would ease the pressure when there are big games.

In fairness to TVP, they do not issue parking tickets, it is council traffic wardens. Parking and traffic congestion has been awful for years. If you're coming from Wantage, perhaps come through Didcot and go the back way up the A4074. This is the way I go, and then through the Baldons. I park in Greater Leys, yes the walk is about 20 mins but nothing compared to getting out of the Stadium. We can all moan, but if more of us thought about where they were going to park before hand, there would be less people blindly driving to the Stadium in the hope of a space.

Always enjoy reading this forum and today finally signed up. I tweeted the club with regards to not letting OUFC fans past the away end and this is the response I received.. Circulation of fans at the back of the North Stand is at police/safety officers discretion, Last nights game was a categorised game. Due to behaviour of a minority of supporters at present the decision was taken to restrict access on safety grounds..

Don't understand why they don't keep away fans in for 10/15 mins.
They should be doing everything they can and possible to help home fans and make our experience better where possible.
As for the issues with the north stand, this has been happening all season. In in conversation with the safety officer ( only works Tuesday's and Thursday's ) about an incident at the Blackburn game where all our seats were taken and the stewards refused to help.

Take Millwall away for example (at home was worst policing I have ever seen), they keep away fans in for as long as is necessary until the home fans have cleared the area

Due to behaviour of a minority of supporters at present the decision was taken to restrict access on safety grounds.. I made a basic error last night. I sat in the South Stand upper and as my £22 ticket had a restricted view and I could not see the fence end goal without arching my neck, I decided to change ends at half time and sat at the far end. So after the game I went the shortest route back to car by going round the the North stand. I was let through no problem, but then had to hit Oxford fans head on and thought I was gong to get done by Oxford! What a numpty.

As for going via Didcot ?? Going direct 16.8 miles, takes me about 25 minutes with a clear run. Used to work at Didcot power station, used to take me 20 minutes just to get there.

I think that's the real issue isn't it? Not sure how many venues would be able to get a crowd of 8-9k people out (including some with cars) without some queueing. If it was moved to Water Eaton really the traffic is just going to be moved to the Kidlington/Cutteslowe/Wolvercote roundabouts. Doesn't the Kassam have the largest free stadium car park in the country?

I know that Charlie Methven has done a lot of work on this but I would be really interested to know how much this actually affects whether or not people turn up to games or not.
I dont mean a "well look how well its done for other clubs" argument, I mean actual proper polling samples done to gauge whether or not its an annoyance or something actually harming the club.
I have been a season ticket holder since long before we moved to the Kassam and over the course of my career I have worked predominantly in and around Oxford. Whenever I ask, or people feel the need to tell me (you'd be surprised how many people want to tell me about Oxford who rarely if ever go up, let alone pay attention to how we are doing), the facilities such as parking etc. is rarely brought up. I get a lot of clever and helpful comments such as "why bother, they are shit" and a fair few people who have just drifted away over the years but I can honestly say no one has ever said "dont go cause I cant park my car or get out quickly enough".
I complain about the parking, mainly cause I drive ever week and nobody else does, but its never actively stopped me from wanting to come.

The Science Park will never help us. They had security people employed recently to prevent vehicles entering. They are as obstructive as the universities and colleges in Oxford were when we were looking for a new ground fifty years ago.

All it would do would be to move most the congestion up the road a bit. The main problem as I see it is one road in and out. Obviously a train station would be fantastic but you can't just get one of those, so I think the best measure we can take is running more buses from park and rides and nearby towns. Also, I'm not sure how useful the zebra crossings outside Frankie and Bennys and the bingo are as they often slow the flow of cars from the overflow. A bridge for pedestrians would help, but would obviously never happen.

On a midweek match night when a large away following is expected, I wouldn't even think about using the car park or going anywhere near Grenoble road. There are places to park in Blackbird Leys/Cowley/Littlemore and walk 15-20 minutes to the ground.
I didn't get out of the ground until well after the final whistle on Tuesday but was back in Witney by 10.30

The Carterton/Witney bus is now being well used and has switched to double-decker permanently. Will apparently be a newer one soon too so luxury travel! A year or so ago there was concern that it wasn't sustainable and wouldn't continue due to lack of paying customers (OAP's can use bus pass). Good to see that there are now more younger passengers. In fact it has been so busy for big games that I have talked to the club about running another. The two FA cup games we had around 50 getting on at Witney alone-great to see!
Have to say I can't see the advantage of WE from traffic perspective as eventually Grenoble Rd will have a train station. Unfortunately regardless of the transport options there are those who will always drive and expect to park nearby near to kick off time. WE would end up gridlocking A34 and surrounds if we had large crowds. To improve current situation P&R would help, also opening up school car parks in Littlemore as the access onto ring road is quicker.

If so and its working well hopefully the could role out the same to places like abingdon, headington. Agree on the stadium, a new station would Definitely help, and WE probably wouldn't have anywhere near as large a car park and the same a34 problems, and bottle necks at Kidlington and pear tree roundabouts

Yes it is one of the club football specials, the other runs from Kidlington. The club did try running them from other places about 4 years ago but they were not well used. It is hard to change people's habits and the Witney bus has taken a good few years to get to this position. Unfortunately most locals always consider the car first rather than other forms of transport. It's cost me a fortune over the years getting myself and kids to the match using the Witney bus but I supported it as I deemed it something proper clubs do.
