I guess they must have done when it was running at a loss which I'm sure it did for some time. Should be covering costs now but not sure if not many paying customers. Not sure how/if they recover money from bus passes.

Park and ride is definitely a good solution.

Most grounds have problems with transport, that is beyond the clubs control! But it can be sorted with a little imagination. Look at Southampton. Built a new stadium right in the heart of the city with NO parking apart for directors and officials. But they regularly get 30,000 supporters in and out of games fine. A combination of buses, trains, park-and-rides and, dare I say it, supporters who plan ahead and don't mind walking 25 minutes each way. I'd love a city centre ground and have often thought Oxpens Road on the ice rink site would be great! Imagine the buzz in the city on a match day! And the station's a five minute walk away... (Yes, I realise this is a mad fantasy, but a man can dream!).

Best thing about this is that the jolly farmers would be the nearest pub, its very similar to the blackbird so wouldn't throw Eric read and Paul cannel out at all, as long as the chef is prepared to move.

Does anyone have any insight into what impact the potential abolition of Oxfordshire County Council might have on OUFC?
The club has a friend in Ian Hudspeth and I'm wondered if the uncertainty over OCC's future would have a baring on any future new stadium aspirations of ours?

Just returning to earlier remarks. I had a drive round the new water eaton today for the first time. Why can't the stadium, training complex and community areas be housed here or even across the road at Stratfield brake? Great transport links, space and perfect really

But it has a train station And bus station. 1 road in and one road out of tge current stadium But the one road either back to Kidlington roundabout or back to the a34 would be worse. Grenoble rd isn't the issue it clears quickly it's the one exit from the car park that's the problem. And that's the biggest car park in the football league, something WE is unlikely to have

I think a lot of fans would park down frieze way (Stratfield brake), walk to Kidlington or train/bus it in. The land opposite water eaton is unusable for building (i think), great area for a car park. I think congestion would be non existent

Or around peartree. Look at other examples like the o2 that couldn't have a better public transport around it. Still takes hours to get out. There are many things that a brand new stadium would get us, instant get away isn't one of them. It's just what happens when a large number of people leave at the same time. If the kassam was to get better bus service and the new station built it would be fine

Who would fund the new stadium or the current one? Are there any differences? e.g. would we be better off financially if we bought a new stadium compared to buying the current one?

I think both would cost around 20m. If u take into account the 4th stand and repairs on the kassam. But ur probably looking 5/10 years anyway with planning and building of the new one. If we can get the training ground on Grenoble rd, a new train station to the leys . And then improve bus services and routes out of the car park, I think the kassam will be just fine. We could certainly start earning money back from non rent and conference and food sales immediately, putting us on a much better footing to keep us moving up the leagues. A wait for the new ground could actually stall us a little. And at the end of the day if we own the kassam, we make money straight away to cut our losses and help us progress, then we could look at WE in the long term as we would have an asset to sell to help fund it.

Wouldn't it be in Kassam's interest to sell the current ground for housing development? If so, I'm sure even he would donate some money to a new venture, thus reducing the cost to us! Also, would we get any grants/sponsorship for s new ground, again cutting the cost further for us? Also, would it take 4/5 years to move to a new ground?

Easily, your looking at least 1 year build, with all the infrastructure around it. And the planning around oxford is one of the worst. Everyone who's in favour of it, expect probably the two most important parties. Cherwell district council and daryl eales. If the councils do go their own way and disband Oxford county council it will be even less likely.

I'm saying from his press releases and what he has said to others that he probably favours the kassam as we are already there and can move forward faster. The main issue effecting Oufc is not owning a stadium and the revenue that creates. Not owning a new stadium. Things have already improved massively at the kassam as far as feel good factor and the art work and stuff to make it more like home, most of the issues can't be solved until we own it.

If Cherwell council are opposed then it will never happen anyway.

Couple of things from reading through the thread: -
1) Can anyone remember when the original plans to demolish the Manor were very fist mooted (pre Kassam days) if one of the potential sites was in the City centre? A mate of mine is convinced that there was a site that was mentioned, although it never got far as an idea. I cant remember but hes convinced.
2) On the potential Water Eaton site, I am 99% sure that the club wouldn't get away with building a ground with only one road in or out. Doesnt matter how good the other transport links are, no council or local authority is going to allow any new development that could potentially have a bad affect on the A34, A40 etc. There would have to be a number of arterial roads built to ease any congestion.
3) I cant go in to too much detail about this but the "pull the stadium down and build housing on it" idea is a complete and total non starter. Im sure others would probably be able to fill in the gaps, but I do know that Kassam has met a number of developers over the years (some not too long after we first moved in to the Kassam believe it or not) to see what could be done on the land. Ideas as diverse as fill in the corners with flats to knock the whole thing down and start again. Whilst there is interest there, from a number of parties, the council have put too many barriers in the way for it to become a viable development.

mmm yes as without these barriers we would have no place to play. Kassam would have redeveloped the land years ago.

I think he can get out of the lease by doing it. If the council is up for scraping the covenant and allowing it, that's a different matter.

I'm not saying its true, just what I've been told. Its not nearly as simple as that unfortunately. I don't know for certain but I personally believe that's a myth thats been somewhat perpetrated by the press and a fairly decent chunk of Chinese whispers. The idea that he can redevelop the land if he assists in relocating the club isn't actually the problem. In the press the council can make Kassam come across as the bad guy who they are keeping at bay because lets face it you'd be hard pressed to find many pro Kassam people, but they are simultaneously stopping development from proceeding by putting many many obstacles in place. Telling the public that they are willing to support Kassam if he is willing to support the club is disingenuous when you realise the amount of obstacles being thrown in the way of redevelopment is stopping that from ever becoming a possibility. I dont know for certain, but from what little knowledge I have on the whole saga it seems that any new stadium, should it happen, will have to be in the same place. A redeveloped ground, with a commitment to the council to improve transport links to it (some form of train line, bus station, very possibly even a new road out of the area) is the most likely to happen. Thats what the council actually want. I believe Ian Hudspeth 100% when he says he backs the club having a new ground etc. but I really do not believe that the rest of the people he works with have that view at all.
