While I was never happy with them being here nor ruining our pitch, neither do I mean them harm. Let's face it all they did was try to make there selves a bigger force in that game with the funny shaped ball. They gave it a good go, it didn't work out for them and now they've departed. Lest we forget, they gave us the idea of a beer tent in the car park with real ales!! They've now gone, could this summer get any better? Surely there won't be an announcement of intent to buy the kassam will there..?

Where do Oxford Rugby league play their home games? They get 200-300 each game and play at the Uni Rugby Ground on Iffley Rd. Fortunately, no chance them needing the Kasstad although I have hope they develop and do well. League is by far the better version of rugby.

unusually on this forum I have mixed feelings as I watched LW as well whilst they were here ...But the pitch excuse is now gone...we MUST start winning at home...lots of momentum building up preseason...wins at home will put bums on seats and people in boxes...Can't see Kassam getting another sport in...It was a massive failure for LW and cant see another team taking a risk on it..

The Oxford Rugby League guys are a top top bunch, they know full well what LW did wrong and want to do the opposite, they work well with Oxford City Stars in a partnership and love playing at Iffley Road.

The problem I had, as Eric Read points out, is they came in and within 6 months were trying to buy the ground from beneath us. Now people can criticise OUFC for putting themselves in that position but it doesn't make it right. Since then I shudder everytime I read about the mirror image at Coventry and how WASPS just bowled into Coventry and one day just bought the RICOH lock, stock and barrel. That was so very nearly us. Once again, hail the CRTB!

Obviously your in a better position to answer that. Wasn't Mark and co looking at water Eaton as a alternative site for us anyway? So I fail to see what real difference it would have made to us. If that isn't the case then I've got this completely wrong. BTW in any case the rtb was a great move by oxvox!

Great news they've buggered off. Walked in with the big I am, disappeared with barely a whimper! I can't believe that with such few fans in London that they managed to alienate so many potential customers in Oxfordshire. Quite a feat.

You're right we had no chance of finding the funds to buy it and hadn't done so for the previous 7/8 years. However, it was intended as our home, not for some other club to move in and throw the cash about and to make us eternal tenants. The Kassam Stadium ownership was/is a fundamental part of the Water Eaton project. If we owned it prior to WE then selling it would have seen a decent contribution to the new stadia. More likely, leaving the Kassam Stadium to Firoka to enable £30m+ of housing could have seen the club sent on its merry way with some cash in its pocket, again to help fund the WE project. Had LW owned it, we'd been royally screwed over and to seek permission for a second stadium in the county would have been virtually impossible.

Fair enough, I'd never really thought about the planning permission side of having a second stadium in the city!! We just now need to see what fk does as I do believe he's willing to sell to us, but I also believe to him in needs to be within a certain time frame, or he will do a deal with the council ie this housing project.

Alternatively they'd have bought the stadium at cost from Kassam, realised Oxford wasn't working for them, and offloaded the stadium at a mega bargain price to us next week. The RTB has just cost us out only opportunity to get the stadium. A truly disastrous move by Oxvox. What were you thinking!

Yeah not nice but the editorial reference to a potential return is stronger than the rhetoric in Kassam's quote in my view. Think he's just putting it out there that he's keeping his options open which we would already have guessed.
London Welsh sounded pretty unequivocal in blaming the people of Oxford for their failure (with trademark grace and valour).

It hasn't worked for them in the two season in the Prem here. I'm pretty sure they would know that not a lot would change if they were to come back in a years time

Don't worry, if you read into the article its a bit of sensationalism from the press - Kassam said they would be welcome back, LW have no intention of ever coming back. They are talking to both Wimbledon and Brentford about a share. I nearly spat my tea out this morning reading the headline but its them wanting to shock to sell papers. The actual quote is “I’m disappointed they are leaving – we had a great relationship with London Welsh. “If they regain their place in the Premiership, I have an open mind as to whether they play at Oxford again. “I’ll be happy to talk to them,”

Now is probably the best time to make an offer on the stadium. Before he starts looking for other tenants, or developing the corners.

For the Oxford fans and the Oxford Rugby public in general, the LW statement basically blames them for not turning up in sufficient numbers. Considering they had 2 shockingly bad relegations after parachuting themselves in from London (and keeping the name therefore not really being an Oxford club) that is very insulting.

It did come across as a hissy fit. It also shows how out of touch they were with Oxford and Oxfordshire to think they could stroll in and everyone would be happy to see them. They did a good job with the community side of things, but PR wise, they didn't get it and never did it seems.

I never wished them any harm and like to see Oxford based teams doing well, but I didn't like what they were doing to contribute to a poor pitch.
