Am I alone in hoping that Woy plays the boys who haven't played yet?
Time to buid a little, get rid of Johnson, Jagielka, Gerrard, Baines and pampered Rooney.
And most of all that bastard Hart, if he's an international keeper I'm Ladislao Mazurkiewicz.

He should do, but won't.
Should be.
Forster
Shaw Jones Cahill Smalling
Wilshire Henderson Lallana
The Ox Sterling
Sturridge
Forgot Barkley. On for Wilshire

If he's building for the future then I hope we get to see a bit of it in a dead rubber.
I'd go with;
Hart
Johnson (Flanagan to replace him) Cahill Jones (Stones to replace him) Shaw
Milner Oxlade
Sterling Barkley Lallana
Sturridge

Some feathers do need to be ruffled. I'd go with: Foster Shaw Cahill Jones Smalling Barkley Henderson Lallana Oxlade-Chamberlain Lambert Sturridge
Attacking and bound to lose, but it would be more fun. Hart is better than Foster, but Hart needs to know his place is not a certainty. He's good, but he's not improved to a point of being a truly great 'keeper yet. Lambert isn't one for the future although I'd like him to get a proper run out as this WC limps to an end for England - his performances for his country have been a terrific example of how hard work and desire can get you to where you want to be despite many obstacles. You shouldn't have sympathy in football yet I'll make an exception in this instance. I'm not a fan of Wilshere (injury prone, hasn't really done anything in an England shirt and - to not think stoically for a moment - he's a bit of a c**t), so I've given the other young players a run out for a bit. All need to improve mind.

Play your best team. This is the World Cup, not a beer match. Aren't there ranking points to be had as well?

It's a nothing game so I expect England to win against a weakend Costa Rica who are resting their squad for round two ... Something England can only dream of. I'd like to see it mixed up a bit and would start with Gerrard and Rooney on bench. Some truly great games in the tournament so far, which have been a pleasure to watch. England's performances have done nothing but drag down the quality average, embarrassing, rightfully on the plane home.

Play your best team. This is the World Cup, not a beer match. Aren't there ranking points to be had as well? Lots of rankings points. It's actually worth 4 friendlies in that respect. Or two Euro qualifiers and a friendly. Still, got to start thinking about the future so I don't see much point in playing Gerrard (especially given his form). Of the rest of the squad, I'm not sure that anyone else particularly fits into that role, where you need the ability to pick a pass combined with positional and defensive awareness. Probably Wilshere is the closest, so worth a shot. Shaw for Baines, as the latter has shown that looking good coming forward for Everton does not equate to looking good in defense at a World Cup. Jones for Jagielka, because the latter is just a journeyman at this level, whereas the former still occasionally shows flashes of being something better. Barkley for Henderson because he's vastly more exciting as a prospect. Likewise Ox for Welbeck if he's fit. Otherwise the same.....so: Hart Johnson Cahill Jones Shaw Wilshere Barkley Stirling Rooney Ox Sturridge. Not that I'm going to be watching when an Italy vs. Uruguay death match is on the other channel.......

It's worth giving future prospects the chance of some action in a World Cup as most should be playing in the next euros. However that does not go as far as giving smalling a game, things ain't that bad

Lose and everyone will moan that this is the worst world cup ever.
Draw and there will be mixed feelings.
Win and everyone will ask why we didn't play this team/this style from the start of the tournament.

That was a poor first half, whatever the ITV pundit (Andy Townsend?) makes out.
Hardly surprising when there are 9 changes, but terribly disjointed. On this showing: Barkley has something about him, Shaw, Smalling and Milner are out of their depth (against Costa Rica!!!!). Lallana not really in the game, and it's a good job Liverpool make loads of chances because Sturridge is not exactly clinical.

Despite the fact Italy and Uruguay both lost to them.

It's a good thing that Sturridge doesn't play for Oxford, as he'd be slaughtered by some on here for missing so many chances.

"England have a promising set of youngsters, the future looks bright" seems to be what a lot of pundits and fans seem to be saying about England. In my opinion I just don't see it. It amazes me how poor English players are when they are removed from the protection of their team mates of their club sides.

This world cup has gone to show how much the English game has deteriorated. Not enough English players playing top flight premier league football, So Hodgson is going to have to start to look at other English premier and even the Championship. Our game is ruined now because of money and greed and f**king Tony Blair.

im definitely in the "Hodgson out" group.
Pretty embarrassing World Cup. he took a very young team but most of them sat on the bench (excluding this game).
