On the plus side.
I have 52 extra tv channels on my Sky + box.
On the minus side.
They are going to play 2 verses of the GB national anthem every time it is used.
Just watched the start of the NZ v GB womens football and nobody knew the second verse. They just stood there like muppets and it was really cringeworthy.

I'm really trying to get into the Olympics via this first event, but the atmosphere is flat as there's hardly anyone there, the play is energetic but of low standard and the bigging up of average play ("that was a great cross") is embarrassing.

can't be many who know the second verse I wish we could change the words to something that we could all sing out without that feeling of awkwardness. Germany did it why can't we?
Really excited about the Olympics, but football should not be in it. Maybe they should have 5-aside or futsal instead?

Football shouldn't be in it, Tennis another.
Has Squash been made an Olympic sport yet? That was always an odd omission...

A Greek banned for rascist tweet and a Morroccan suspended for using drugs. Not a great start.

Have they used that perenial favourite of commentators when talking about womens sport yet - "they may not have the power of the men but they have great technique" - makes me laugh when its not even true.

Although oddly, it doesn't bother me that Women's Football is an Olympic sport. They probably care about it, will pick proper teams and they need the coverage. Same goes with Squash (which you are correct is not an Olympic sport yet) Men's football can *&!% right off, along with Tennis. And Golf in four years time. Did enjoy this twitter quote on the Beeb though: "I think the women will get a medal. Whereas the mens team will be fortunate to get a corner."

0-0 at Half Time. GB should have scored 3 or 4 though...

Having just defended Women's Football, mind - under what bizarre set of criteria did they decide the Qualifiers?
Germany - Played 3, Won 3 in the 2011 World Cup Group stages, only to be shocked by eventual winners Japan in the Quarters - Not involved.
North Korea & Canada - 1 point between them in the 2011 World Cup - Get to play.
Have we been trying to fix it so we have a chance at a medal?

I have long been an advocate of the abolition of any event that requires the awarding of points by a judge. Too open to corruption. It would get rid of the likes of synchronised swimming, diving etc.. and indeed boxing. Much prefer a 'measurable' sport.

Who can p*ss the furthest? Men or women? You'd have to keep it single sex, but in the men's I expect Usain Bolt probably has a potential gold medal there

can't believe squash isn't in it
Trouble with removing sports that are judged rather than measured you would lose loads of traditional Olympic sports - gymnastics, diving, equestrian events
For me the ones that should go are the ones that are too big for the Olympics - football and tennis the obvious ones, especially football although I agree I don't have a problem with womens football being in it
I quite like the idea of having 5-aside instead or futsal

They just had the misfortune of playing the inspired, eventual champions, Japan in the Quarters whilst France only had to play us (and squeaked past on pens). Not having a proper Qualification tournament for Europe is rather Mickey Mouse. I've changed my mind - Women's Football out too!

It would get rid of the likes of synchronised swimming, diving etc.. and indeed boxing. Much prefer a 'measurable' sport. The worst one is Ski Jumping in the Winter Olympics. There you've got a measurable metric - but instead they bring in judges and start to award style points. Bollocks to that. Winner should be the nutter who flies the furthest. If he ends up landing on his head in the middle of the crowd - who cares. Not sure the Olympics would be the same without Boxing. And Gymnastics to be fair, although I can't stand it.

I'm not really an advocate of sports being included where they are not taken seriously. Tennis I think should be there - Federer, Djokavic, Murray, Sharapove, Serena Williams are all there. Only a small handful of top players missing.
Football I agree, should be scrapped - either allow full squads regardless age or don't bother. And the fact many teams have prevented their players from appearing (not to mention the grumpy SFA and Northern Irish FA), make the event event a bit of anti-climax.
Softball and baseball was quite rightly dropped from London 2012. If you're going to have those we might as well stick sports like Twenty20 cricket and rugby in there.
Squash I am surprised is missing, and also karate too, considering it's more popular than taekwondo.

I shall watch the sports that GB have a genuine chance, so shall not worry too much about the football. Any sports such as tennis and basketball will be avoided. Looking forward to the rowing, cycling, (if only to try and understand the rules and tactics), long distance running and some of the swimming. If we can recreate 88 the hockey may prove good viewing as well. Struggling to get that excited in all honesty, too many negatives at the moment, but that will change when the action starts.

Mainly going to watch GB in the hockey (women a decent chance of gold IMHO) and men’s football. Will probably watch some other high profile events (Oxford's own Hannah England, Usain Bolt etc) depends how BBC coverage goes.
The North Korean flag is an ominous Twenty Twelve moment. Not reassuring that staff have been organised enough to protect major sponsors brand rights, but evidently not security or even accurate information.
Sure I will get enthusiastic at some point - Beach Volleyball, perhaps. At the moment more exicited about cricket Netherlands v Gloucestershire of Friday.
