If I made sexist comments in my job i'd get the sack straight away. seriously, no employer is going sack somebody for making a single sexist (or racists for that matter) comment especially at level they are reported to have said. It was hardly hate-filled. If your employers are such nazi's you should start looking around.

As far as I'm concerned they can say what they want. I don't agree with them, but that's not the point. They made a remark that was sexist, but all it has done is make them look a little bit "old-fashioned" in their views " Oh look a woman, she won't understand the laws of the game".... actually she got the 'big decision' spot on.

But on the flip side, Harriet Harman did once say that the Banking Crisis was all due to men, so it works both ways.

I think people are getting a bit carried away with this. Football is traditionally a mans world and of course there will be a bit of banter about female officials. The last thing we need is over the top political correctness creeping into football. Always better to rise above this kind of thing than make a big deal of it.
But Gray is just an utter t*at anyway. So brainwashed by SKY that he actually thinks the Premier league is the best league in the world.

To be fair, I think Sky have got this one RIGHT. Why? Because it was said off air in what was supposed to be a private conversation, a bit like Ron Atkinson and even Gordon Brown. It's not right what they said, but we ALL say things in the heat of the moment when we think that no-one else is listening. It's not their fault some sound technician left them miked up. If it was said live on air though, then yes, they should both be sacked. Having said that though, Andy Gray is still a tw@t.

Agree with one of the posters above - we've (most of us) all made such comments - remember the female official a couple of years ago - Mike Newall's favourite one:
You should have stayed in the kitchen You're not fit to fry an egg
were among the gems coming from the stands as I recall.
That being said, Ron Atkinson effectively lost his job over his "off mic " racist comment so hopefully these pair of idiots will do likewise!
About time Sky had a rejig of their presenters - they're so enamoured of themselves it's unbelievable!

I'm staggered at how many are coming on here berating the fact that a couple of blokes have said something sexist in a typical blokey exchange in what they rightly assumed was a private conversation. I'm not sexist but we all say things to other blokes that wouldnt exactly make easy listening for the females in question. Whether its right or wrong it happens all the time. It isn't nescessarily meant but it gets said. Keys obviously knows she knows the off side rule but he said in a bit of typical male interaction. Ffs, the lot of you need to chill out and see it for what it is - a throw away comment. Do you reckon the panelists on Loose Women have ever made a sexist comment off air ? I dont have a problem with Keys or Grays presenting either. Keys is a pretty knowledgeable front man and while I think Gray over analyses a bit I think his comments normally add up and paint a fairly accurate picture.

With all your righteous preaching is it safe to assume that you have NEVER made a sexist remark about a female in a private converstaion with a mate ? If not then you, my friend, are one very perculiar male indeed. In fact you are very odd if that is the case.

If so, and I suspect you have, then some of this rubbish up thread is hypocrisy on a monumental scale. Do me a favour ! Yeah, and everyone can say what they want in private. When something goes out in public, on TV - the channel if it has any sense will take action because they need to be seen as inclusive and not condoning of that sort of thing. Their audience is a massive cross-section of society. Whether they've got an ethical obligation to do so or not, we can debate. But it's a moot point really from Sky's point of view because taking action against them is also the correct business decision. Also, Keys and Grays are a pair of muppets and after 15 years or whatever it's been I'm frankly sick of their narrative, so nothing of value was lost.

Maybe sky appreciate the free publicity this is giving them? You think they need this kind of publicity? The whole 'any publicity is good publicity' thing only applies when you need to get yourself noticed. Sky don't, everyone's aware of them and anyone who doesn't use them in the UK market will have decided not to. When you're that big, the only publicity you want is good publicity. Hence why it's important for Sky to do the 'right' thing.

The issue with this is that its sexism. If it was racism, even said 'off air' it would have resulted in more than a one game ban. Gray and Keys would never have been sacked like Atkinson over it, because they are worth too much money to sky, and that is what it is all about these days.
That said, neither sexism nor racism is acceptable its just that sexism is, it would seem, less unacceptable than racism.
Just because it was said 'as a joke,' or in a 'blokey way' is a frankly pathetic attempt to extricate the pair of them from the decidedly unsavoury light they have placed themselves in. It is beaten to the crown of most worthless excuse only by 'its what eveyone else was thinking.'
