An unacceptable comment but it was 11 years ago. The red tops are really scraping the bottom of the barrel here, next thing we'll be being informed keys told - shock horror - a couple of racist jokes in the school playground when he was 8.

If he did he should be expelled immediately...... It wouldn't bother me if he made the comment yesterday. Its only meant as a joke. If he was a racist would he really work alongside black collegues ? The amount of righteous preaching since all this came to light is astonishing. Judging by the resposes on here alone I'd hate to be on a night out with a lot of you. We wouldn't be able to pass comment about a fit female or tell a joke about another race. **** me, I'd rather go on a night out with my accountant, the vicar and librarian.

I see nothing wrong with a sexist or racist joke because that is exactly what it is - a JOKE. If a woman wants to make a joke about a bloke, or a muslim make a joke about a christian or a black make a joke about a white then great ! Go ahead ! If the punchline is funny then I will laugh and, on that example I've given, I'd be the 'victim' on all three counts. I don't go, as you put it, 'mental' if someone makes a joke at my expense. What I don't like is when people give me countless stick and then when I give it back with interest they get all defensive and start accusing me of petty name calling and being rude and arrogant and all that bollocks.

I don't hate Irish people but I'd tell an Irish joke. You cant go through life watching every p and q like a hawk. I remember Bernard Manning saying his best friend outside show business was a Pakistani doctor who was a near neighbour. That, to me, sums it up in a nutshell.

Not saying that at all baldy, all i'm saying is that telling racist jokes, or sexist, jokes for that matter, can lead to sexist or racist opinons in those who hear them. I knew a guy whose father was always cracking 'paki' jokes. The kid was constantly doing exactly the same and making the kind of idiotic, predjudiced statements that are the basis for ingrained racism which is, after all, 75 per cent ignorance.

I agree with Baldy to a certain extent. Where do we draw the line? I mean chances are if you have watched a stand up comedian then you have laughed at a joke aimed towards a stereotype in our society ie fat person, old person, disabled person ect and if as someone from an ethnic minority (which i am) i am prepared to laugh at that, should I have the right to be offended if i hear a joke that is personal to me? The truth is i would feel offended but then is that not hypocritical, i think it is. In addition, with all this Richard keys stuff going on, why does nobody care that every week on the telly Jo Brand makes jokes about men.

It seemed to offend David Johnson though. As the victim of a (mild, but unnecessary) joke, shouldn't he be the man to say whether the joke is offensive or not?

Ultimately if you analysed everyone i suspect it would show we are all hypocrites when it comes to jokes.

Yes he should be the one to say whether it was offensive but if he has ever laughed at joke aimed at another stereotype in society (which we all have ie fat, old, disabled ect) has he the right to say the joke should not have been said.

Lets be honest...The comment about Sian Massey was absolutely not a joke! It was Andy Gray and Keys stating that women dont know the rules and that she's a bad official because she's a woman. This one, whilst being a joke, is still not acceptable for someone in his position (or indeed anyone) to say. Like has been said however, it was 11 years ago and I don't think it should affect his new job.

Do you really believe that Keys and Gray think that the Premier League would appoint an official who did NOT know the offside rule. Come on WY, think about it. Of course they knew she knew the offside rule, it was just typical male banter about a female official. It's too ridiculous for words to take the Keys and Gray comment about her not knowing the offside rule literally.

Wow someone is digging up dirt on Richard Keys. Smacks of desperation to really get at someone and settle some old scores. Is that the best they can do? Choco jocko. Strike another one for investigative journalism!
What next? The clip where he called the Tea Lady at TV-AM an old biddy for giving him only 1 sugar.

Funily enough I saw Sian Massey earlier on my travels, I went up to her n said.. 'cor that kicked up a big fuss with Gray and Keys about what they said about you,' she said.. 'Yea, tell me something I don't know'
So I explained the offside rule to her
