Couldn't you have asked me to name better strikers than Rooney? that would have been easier, although I'm a bit pushed for time...
I can't name one that I definately think is better but I think Capdevila, Lahm and Evra are up there with him. I'm not quite up on all their current form, which is why I'd always hesitate to call someone THE best.

Last year he was *probably the best striker in the world. Unless there were no world class strikers in the run up to the world cup? *I cannot think of any who were better (Ron and Mess I'd count as wingers) over what time period? Over a six-month period or so Rooney was certainly up there, but over a longer term period of say the last 3 years he wouldn't make a top ten. Rooney is capable of being world class, because he did it for a few months, but I think a longer term period including major tournaments (which seperate the men from the boys) is a more realistic assessment... Gareth Bale was probably the best player in the world for about 3 weeks last year.

If you use the term world class to describe someone who would get in to a World 11 then Cole is are only one, thats probably been true for last 5 years as well. Think Cole's playing ability sometimes gets overlooked with all his celebrity shenanigans but I think he is probably the best full back England have ever produced.

Would pick Cole over them three myself. but how often do you see Lahm or Capdevila play? I would say its someone who would get into a World Squad, so yep Cole is definately world class, noone will argue with that. not really, pretty much everyone in England thinks he's the best LB in the world and in other countries he's rated as one of the best as well.

Seen Lahm and Capdevila a few times but just think Cole's got the more all round game and has been consistently good for a long time now, which for me is the sign of a top class player. If you look at some of the players we praise as world class in this country but who are not (Beckham or Lampard for example) then Cole doesnt seem to get the same level of media adulation. Although that may have something to do with his playing position.

Some of the comments on this thread are a joke.
Ashley Cole is the BEST left back in the world.. FACT! Anyone that thinks otherwise is deluded.
and Wayne Rooney is also world class.
Plus players like Josh McEachran beav who are only 17, are no way ready to start playing games regurlarly for the England senior team!! McEachran has only just broken into the Under 21's!!! he will play for the senior team sometime soon, but not yet!!!

Capdevila?!
I'm better than him!
He's the Spanish achilles heel. He's the Spanish Gareth Barry! (worst player in the team)
I'd prefer Carroll to Bent and wouldn't play both of them, I don't think so anyway.
I can imagine just hoofing it forward to big strikers. Both of them would work if we played with quick wingers lobbing balls into the box and having Gerrard, Wilshere or whoever picking up any balls that are headed out to put the ball back out wide or set up something from just outside.

Have you ever considered coaching? Get yourself a sheepskin jacket and the world is your oyster I used to manage my primary school team because I wasn't allowed to play. Was a bit too young then. I'd just yell for 40mins and tell them what to do. Like - pass pass pass and shit like that. A bit embarrassing looking back at it but oh well. I'd love to be a manager in truth - no way into the game though :\

There are FA courses you can do, you can get some basic badges quite easily and volunteer for a kids team, a mate of mine did

Ashley Cole is the BEST left back in the world.. FACT! Anyone that thinks otherwise is deluded. and Wayne Rooney is also world class. Thats the kind of arrogant nonsense that make us a laughing stock. I suppose you were agreeing with the TV pundits before the Germany game last summer saying "theres not one of these players that would get in the England team" He might well be the best left back, but have you seen all the top left backs in the Spanish league? the Italian league, the German league, in South America? There is more to football than the Premier league you know... What is your definition of world class if you include Rooney?

That's the difference and the reason he's world class, he can do something that changes a game.. We don't have enough players like that to be dropping players like him

Assuming everyone was fit for the next game I'd probably go with something like...
Hart Richards Terry Ferdinand Cole Walcott Gerrard Wilshire Johnson Bent Rooney
But Johnson wont be fit for Wales anyway so I'd stick Milner on the left.

I am presuming this is a friendly - it's about building blocks. The team is young and I would expect Stevie Geee to come on second half. Parker and Wilshere would be a great CM duo.

Parker and Wilshere would be a great CM duo. Yeah, and Albrighton is class. Cheeky little bugger with one hell of a cross and good at switching wings. Personally I'd be tempted to go for: Hart Richards (if he keeps showing form for man city) Jagielka Cahill Cole/Baines Albrighton Parker/Gerrard Wilshere A Young Caroll Bent/Rooney

Our next game is the qualifier against Wales so it will not be game to give people a go and see what they look like. When is it? When is Gerrard back? Presuming whole squad is fit J.Hart
M.Kelly - J.Terry - R.Ferdinand - A.Cole
S.Parker
A.Young - - S.Gerrard - - A.Johnson
W.Rooney - A.Carroll Cahill, Dawson, Lampard, Wilshere, Bent and Defoe Seems bout right? Mixing young and old. Giving experience to some essential youngsters by playing them alongside seasoned pros. That side should beat a team of Wales' standards surely?

Midway through march. To be fair that team doesnt look to bad and it seems right to pick Kelly ahead of Johnson as that is what is happening at Liverpool. Capello will try to fit Lampard in somewhere though and Rio Ferdinand will pull out injured as usaul.

Is Rio still Captain and Gerrard vice?
If Fabio is going to be stubborn and play Frampard then he can come on second half instead of Wilshere.
Who've Wales got that's decent? Ramsay, Bellamy?
