Good debate here. And a surprising one. Because we're talking fine lines at this point in the season when, by rights, we might be arguing one way or t'other about whether Pep was any good or not. I genuinely thought we would struggle with the 'churn' and for Pep to lay the foundations. But, whisper it, we are doing very well consdering the upheaval. The question is: what if there is more to come from this team? If you subscribe to the view that Pep needed time and that the team shouldn't be judged until, say late October, which respected posters like Highlights suggested I think, then we are ahead of schedule because of the goals we are scoring, the chances we are creating and, most importantly, the style of play. The areas where we can improve seem to be showing a bit more nous when leading. Or doing the dirty, brubby sides of the game. And, perhaps most importantly, signing that striker who can play up top on his own. Anyone who says that we are that player short of promotion is absolutely bang on. Spend some of the money in January if our form has held up and we should make the play-offs... ...unless, oddly, the Pep revolution goes off the rails. But I can't see that. We should have been much slower starters than this. At the moment, the guy is producing better football than Mapp and more tactical nous. Please, please, please do not say that we are "doing well, but may be a top League 1 striker short of automatic promotion." You see there's this modern day football guru called Finlandia. He's a sort of Alan Hansen for the 2020s with bells on and a touch of the Stasi about him. What he doesn't know about how the game works isn't worth knowing. And he is very, very, very clear that anyone who says that we are doing really well but may be a top League 1 striker short of automatic promotion is a thoroughgoing shit who wants OUFC to fail and who knows less than zero about the game. Can't say you haven't been warned. Oh, and by the way, by saying anything - yes, ANYTHING - which is short of adulatory praise of a team in 8th place in the third tier you have joined something called - da da da daaaaah - THE COVEN. Hope that has put you straight. Zzzzzzzzzz

In your own words this is an "obscure internet forum" but you always end up personally abusing anyone who challenges your opinion which then defines you as childish, as we know you are not a football messiah after reading numerous posts, so to try and belittle people who don't agree with your views comes across very petty and trite. Yes, you're right. Belittling people is petty. Which must make the mirror a difficult proposition for you. Do I have to drag up all the belittling posts you have made against Darryl eales, some of them frankly defamatory?

Please go ahead young man I'm now intrigued, but again you try to wriggle out of the criticism coming your way..

I am so glad Charlies interventions often lead to shambolic failure. Shows him up for the person he is. When you resort to insulting people the debate is lost.

The way some people are describing the failings of the current turnout squad you'd think we were propping up the league just as much as we aren't a Prem wannabe.

You would expect the overwhelming emotion leaving the ground would be frustration, but I went away feeling like I'd witnessed a good game against a good team. We played some excellent football and it was a entertaining to watch. The weather was awful and I would imagine that we'll brush a lot of teams aside in this league, playing like that in better conditions.
It would be fair to say that some of the players could have made better decisions in the closing stages of the game, but it's something you feel that the team is capable of learning from.
I am not a fan of being negative and I attach no blame, but does anyone have a view of the performance of the ball boys? It might just be me, but I felt they could have done better. (I am not suggesting it effected the result, but Wes Thomas appeared to be centre forward as well as spending time retrieving the ball).

I agree with you, it's not quite clicking into place for us yet, when it does, watch out league 1

Appleton and Pep have assembled a good a squad of players as any team in the League imo.. and to a man, one which any Manager I feel, would be delighted to start a campaign with. Peps work now begins, his coaching ability and man management skills will be tested in the coming months. Can he keep the players motivated when results might not go their way. ?? I think he can and I don't think he will be too overwhelmed by reputations and not afraid to make difficult decisions and ring the changes when he has to.
I think he's intelligent and a good orator ( quite rare for a manager in the lower leagues ) and yet has a bit of steel about him.
The futures bright, the futures orange yellow.
