Let's imagine Eales wanted to sell the club at the end of this season... £2m spent over the 2 transfer windows this season could see him add a lot more to the club's value if it ends in promotion. No brainer for me!

I reckon a loan from a higher club for a young wide man and that'll be it. Possibly a young centre back too, though not essential. If that is that then it'll be midtable for us. And I don't understand why. This is a rare opportunity to take an already decent squad and use a small proportion of the incomings to maximise our chances. There's being a 'trading' club and then there's being a straight up selling club. I'm confident that we will do better than a measly loan signing. Oh, I hope so too...just think this is the way it will pan out. Hope I'm wrong...

We all know where the squad is paper thin - I think that the next few hours are going to tell us quite a lot about Eales' future intentions. Oh behave. It's as if we've forgotten where we've come from in the last several years...we're talking about transfers in the £Ms here, in and out! I don't see how anyone can judge the intentions of the chairman that has brought us to this point (with his own money) on 8 hours. We may have the intention to sign X, Y and Z but technically getting it over the line is another matter.

I'd like to see a striker come in as part of the deal with Johnson but might be unlikely now. Striker is essential as we are short up front. I'd love us to bring in Dave Tarpey from Maidenhead who scored 45 last season and has started well in the National this year. No relocation probably necessary, and someone who knows where the net is...plus he already plays in yellow and blue😀

To expect 3 players in at this stage I reckon is pretty doubtful. The worry I guess is that there are 'panic' buys (as I read somewhere that Hemmings may have been). What is very likely is that cubs will be asking more money after selling MJ and so we may well have to spend over the odds. Pep sounds, like MAPP to be a pretty pragmatic manager.

We have a dedicated recruitment dept, therefore no excuses for no one coming in, as there is plenty of money and our shortcomings have been known for a while.

Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see any more signings this window.

If no one does come in then I think we will struggle this season, it wouldn't show much ambition if no one does sign, also would prefer permanent signings than loans.

I'd like to see an experienced centre mid and a centre forward come in, to help us out think and out play teams that have worked out how to nullify our system of play

I predicted one loan signing this morning while talking to a mate. I hope to god I am wrong.
We've known for weeks he's off. We've heard nothing since day one about how we have a constant short list of three or four players for every position. We've had massive ST and match ticket increases. We've been told time and again how this season we mean business.
Please give us a reason to believe in all of these claims between now and 11pm.

Fingers crossed for some decent signings.
But, and it's a big but, I'm not sure if I want to see us splurging over the odds or signing journeyman hasbeens just to 'show we mean business'. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that's the model we've been using with considerable success for the past few years.
It might not be a popular opinion, but if the right players at the right price aren't available I'd rather we sat on our hands til the new year.
That said I'll be disappointed if we can't get a couple in before 11 because I'm a fan who wants to see us compete at the top end of the league. Not at any price though.

The club must have targets, Johnson leaving has been on the cards for weeks. I am confident that deals are being done as we speak, if I'm wrong I'll be very disappointed.

I don't see how anyone can judge the intentions of the chairman that has brought us to this point (with his own money) on 8 hours. We may have the intention to sign X, Y and Z but technically getting it over the line is another matter. How does 'where we've come from' influence what our transfer policy is now? We have a recruitment setup that will have had a pretty good idea that Johnson was going for a couple of weeks now. At least. If the intention is to get us into the Championship, then we NEED a couple more players - I know that, you know that and everyone at the club knows that. We now have the money to go and get them - yes, other clubs will know we have some money to spend, bu there's never a way around that. We will have targets (and presumably an idea of what their price would be) and alternatives if those go elsewhere or are hugely over-priced. Actually I think Eales' intentions ARE to try to get us into the Championship - it's the only way he is going to recoup his losses/maximise his profits/keep the club moving forwards (delete as suits your views!). The other option is to use the profits/transfer monies to reduce the debt - which is also a reasonable thing to do in terms of club stability - a safer (but less lucrative) option than using the money to 'gamble' on some new players who might take us up. So I am not necessarily being negative about the owner! For me personally, if midnight comes and we are told 'all the players we wanted were not available at a price we wanted to pay' then we were looking at the wrong players, undervaluing players or didn't really want to spend the money.

Exactly because we have moved on massively, and don't need to keep harking back to those days for not using the available money to bring in players. There are no excuses for the 3 positions needing strengthening not being addressed therefore, as we also now have a permanent recruitment dept. We are also working in the same conditions as other clubs, so ran out of time won't cut it either.
