I sincerely doubt he's an "unhappy player"...I just think he's a player with a greedy agent. Agree with your sentinments though, and we'll probably see him leave with relatively little fanfare for £2m, then play in Div 2 about as much as COD. Then on loan to Wycombe next year. Do you realise how stupid your post is? Are you drunk? Because of....anything in particular..? Tongue-in-cheek perhaps, but feel free to elucidate why it's "stupid". P.S. just arrived at work, so possibly not drunk.

Important that Darryl does not let MJ dictate this. He has to be sold for market value. If nobody meets his asking price then leave him out until the window shuts. He may find himself unable to get into the team by then.

I'm sure he'll be sold by the end of this transfer window for £1.5 - £2 mill. DE will end up saying, 'he wanted to leave, no option etc'. It is tough to keep a player once he has handed in a request, and can you blame Johnson when he's likely to see a 300%+ salary increase? What would you do in his situation? The business plan may be to sell one big player every summer, but as last summer showed it is hard to be so prescriptive. But again, it is great that we have a number of players other clubs would pay significant fees for. For so long that wasn't the case. This. Darryl' hand will be forced. Of course he'll sell.

One thing about this, everyone saying 'it's fine we have GVK' is perhaps being a bit presumptuous. He's played once for less than 20 minutes, I don't think we can guarantee that he's the replacement for one of the most talented players in our squad (no his day) just yet.
I've never been bowled over my Johnson but I appreciate that he has moments that can change games, which is what you're paying your money for as a L1 club. I think a disinterested and jaded Johnson, which he would be if we rejected this request, would realistically be no good to anyone. I say sell and reinvest in at least another pacy winger.

Interesting how every time a player looks like they might leave suddenly they're not even that good and we didn't want them anyway. Same with lundstram. Johnson is undoubtedly one of our best players but if we got £2m+ for him it would be decent business imo

He may find himself unable to get into the team by then. Market value is whatever other clubs are willing to pay for him. If £1.5m is offered (and it is made clear we won't get any better) Darryl will be a brave man to say no. £1m profit over one season is bloody good business, especially for a player that - as you have alluded to - is not someone that the team is built around. However, if you'll allow me to contradict myself a little bit, now that we know multiple teams are interested, I'd hope for at least £2m. Despite what people are saying on here now this has all come out, he's got pretty much every physical attribute necessary to make it at the top. Sure, he's very inconsistent, but he's still improving. If a team out there can work out a way to get the best out of him, he'll be a hell of a player.

No one is saying he is a bad player but right now he is inconsistent. If he wants to go to the next level he needs to turn in excellent performances week in week out. Payne is an example of how you need to be if you want to reach the next level. Same with Ledson, Williamson and Nelson, you know what you're going to get each week. If Ruffles carries on then he will be the same as I thought he was excellent Saturday at pressing players and playing well placed passes.

Does anyone know the stats on Johnson's last 15-20 odd games? How many has he played at left back compared to left mid? It's interesting he's getting so much attention from scouts watching him always at left back, because he's been terrible there and he and the fans have hated every minute of it.
I believe Johnson would be our best player if he'd had had a permanent run of games at left mid. (He probably would have been sold by now!)

Fun, shit stirring theory: Marv's asked to leave, Pep and Eales agree and tell Dave Jones to get it on Sky.
From our point of view it could be good that it's been leaked, might inflate what we get.

Well he certainly does enjoy handing in a transfer request in the summer transfer window! If a club are going to pay 2+ million for him then I'd take it. Do I think he will be a big loss? Not at all. Robbie Hall and GVK are more than good enough in that position. Pep seems to want to play 4231 which suits both Hall and GVK on the left of the 3. I would think we would then maybe look at loaning a wide player from a premiership/championship side or knowing us some player we have never heard of from Norway! It's a shame Marvin listens to his agent because if he had 1 more season learning and becoming consistent in league 1 he would get a move to a much bigger and better club than Hull next summer. Nonsense. Hull is as big as Marvin is ever going to get. He is totally one-footed, his crossing is inconsistent and he isn't one of these wingers who is going to score you 10 plus goals a season. He's pushing on 27 and has one last proper move left in him - a three year deal at a championship club. I'd be sorry to see him go. No doubt about that. He's exciting to watch and is a good player at this level. But, unlike cod and roofey I don't see the control and football brain to take him to the top. He is at his peak right now, in a position where that means everything, and can hardly be blamed for wanting a 3 year deal on 500k a year before dropping back down the leagues again post 30. No, the real question is not Marvin' s but oufc's. In my view 1.5 million would be a fair price, but do we really need to take it, given the millions that have come into the club and that we are already, in the words of our chairman, fully funded. If we are serious about getting promoted then losing one of our key players this late in the window would be a blow, no doubt about it. If he wants to play in the championship, what is he going to do? Spit his dummy and train with the youths? Hardly. By January everyone will have forgotten him and moved on to players doing it on the pitch. I would tell him that he can move next summer with our blessing and, in the meantime, give him a re-jigged incentive scheme based around helping us to the top 6 to salve any financial wounds he may be feeling!

If Ruffles carries on then he will be the same as I thought he was excellent Saturday at pressing players and playing well placed passes. Is MJ really as good as his hype? He is a physically impressive footballer and has a turn of speed and can, on occasion beat a player - in a straight sprint. But he is inconsistent and has clear weaknesses. And he is not some young pup who can be developed over the coming years. He should be in his prime and not a development project for a big club higher up the league. He can disappear from games, can tend to run into trouble when in possession and as a result lose the ball (although to his credit he then does work to get it back) and when he runs from deep he runs with his head down (looking at the ball) and therefore rarely sees or picks out a team mate. His crosses can be brilliant and really awkward for defences to deal with but many of them are not actually into an oncoming OUFC player ( I accept it would be great if we had a goal poacher who was in there more often). Someone should show him Jordan Graham's display for us against Scumdon a couple of years ago - worked hard back in covering his fullback, was able to run from deep and pick a pass and could stand his opposing fullback up with guile and pace. Absolutely toasted the STFC fullback on several occasions. Something MJ tends not to do - either because he doesn't think he can or because he doesn't have confidence in his own skill set. So what? He is a very talented L1 player and might do better in a Championship side. But the skill set is higher, the pace greater, defences tighter and expectations harder to meet. He could disappear into obscurity. But money talks and if he wants away I guess he'll go. But he wouldn't leave us as a OUFC legend. Good luck to him. Ricardinho and Hall can more than do a job for us and Pep/DE can go shopping for reinforcements.

Man City !!!!! Don't make me laugh. P.S. You are also contradicting yourself. "Man City was certainly one of the clubs supposed to be watching him last season" So were they "certainly" watching him ? Or were they "supposed" to be watching him ? Man City, Liverpool, Everton and Leicester have all reportedly sent scouts to watch him at some point. Whether or not you choose to believe that is a different matter. Google "Johnson" "Oxford" "scouts" (with quotes) and see the results for yourself. As for the number of scouts, there were 33 scouts at the Bury game last season. How many were watching Johnson? No idea, but that was definitely the number reported. THANKYOU 👍

It's hard to force a player to stay in today's footballing world. What bodes well for the club is we aren't in a position where the money will keep us going for the season and we have to sell. The deal will get done, it's just about what the compensation will be. It's not like Hull are stoney broke either

Saturday demonstrated the intention to play him in his favoured position. With Ricardinho now in at LB Marv could really shine over next 5 months and go - if he still wants to - in January. Or perhaps he just doesn't like to stay anywhere for long. His agent seems v. Influential and has done well at talking up rumours to unsettle him.

All those scouts watching the Bury performance would have seen a dazzling display.
Yet a few days later at Wembley those same scouts would have seen a totally inept performance. That has a lot to do with how Coventry set up and saw him as the main threat. If and when he goes to the Championship he will find it even harder.
For me he hasn't delivered on a consistent basis. If you compare him to Roofe ,Mc Ilany and Maguire they put in great performances in 3 out of 4 games with Johnson I would say 1 in 4 games

So that would be the COD that can't get off the bench for a poor championship team and acted disgracefully to engineer his move. MJ is better than COD. £1.5m to £2m is fair Well, COD went for £1.6 a year ago, and that was straight out of League 2, so the market doesn't agree with you. At the age of 21, he made 34 appearances for Bristol City last season, of which - from memory - 12 were starts. So it is a (not uncharacteristic) lie to say that he couldn't "get off the bench". Indeed, this season he has actually quite literally come off the bench for 20 minutes in both games and Bristol City are mid-table, having spent huge money during the summer. This for a guy who 15 months ago was told he wasn't good enough to start games in League 2! At 5 years younger than Marvin, and already playing at a higher level than Marvin has ever played before, I think that it is a fairly safe prediction to say that he is likely to enjoy a more successful career than MJ. Not that that is really a criticism of MJ. Some of our more primitive fans seem not to understand how competitive the Championship is. These clubs have squads of 30 plus full professionals. Even getting ONTO the bench is tough work, and well-paid tough work too. If you were to sample 20 professionals and ask if they would rather be coming off the bench in the Championship or starting in League 1, you'd get 18 or 19 hands shooting up to volunteer for the Championship. cf John Lundstram.

Can anyone shed light on what the point of a transfer request is. A quick google and skim read to me indicates it has no teeth. All I can see is that it a) Ruffles feathers in your team and fan base b) Would weaken your contracted clubs bargaining power (my assumption). A private conversation with Pep saying he wants to move on would have the same affect no? eg. the club to consider bids more closely. Perhaps it's a simple as waving a flag to drum up some interest... It would mean Johnson would give up certain contractual obligations that the club would have had to pay him otherwise in the event of a transfer such as a loyalty payment or % of the transfer fee etc.

Then there are others who routinely insult me, imply that I act against the interests of the club and have - wooooah - "agendas". Most of these people shelter behind their pseudonyms to throw out their barbs, and then are often rather embarrassed when I find out who they are and have a face-to-face chat with them. If you can't take it, then don't hand it out. I am friendly with both Callum O'Dowda and Juan Sartori, both of whom have been insulted recently on here. And I shall defend them in the tone which their critics employ. If Sartori is "insincere" and Callum "disgraceful" then I don't think that "primitive" is an especially unpleasant insult.
