Oh Gino, Woh-oh-oh gino-o I hope that's Dexys midnight runners, because if anyone dares suggest a different tune for this guy I'll feckin av em. Slight problem with this (and maybe malcolmnl can confirm), but being Dutch(ish), wouldn't his name be pronounced not Jeeno, but Heeno (that's not right either, bur there's no way of writing it in English - glottal g anyway)?

Sing his name to the tune of the Gino Ginelli advert from the early nineties.

Gino by Dexys was my first single, top track. Umm. Geno. Bloody hell. In my defence it was first thing this morning, and I had a medical check up this morning meaning I couldn't have a cuppa or any food, or something like that...

Exciting times, be interesting to see how these players from other leagues settle in.
I see he was on loan at Gdansk last season, I saw a few Polish top flight games last year (Cracovia) and overall it was Div 1 standard football. Gdansk were one of the better sides though.

It's going to take me until Christmas to recognise all the players... never mind spell or pronounce all their names properly.
God alone knows what those who came up with 'Keeymar' and 'McGuire' are going to make of them all!

I think it's jeeno as he comes from Curacao, which, although Dutch, has American influences. But I'm sure Chris Williams will ask him.

Have been rather down on the recruitment this summer but I have to say that this signing looks a very clever bit of business.
I particularly like this bit...
Van Kessel has been on United’s radar for several weeks and was known to manager Pep Clotet last summer, when Leeds United were interested in signing him.
The U's boss said: "At the time (at Leeds) it was not right, but as soon as we had the need for a versatile player who can play in all three positions in offence I put the name forward.
"I’ve let the recruitment staff analyse him and look at his career.
"We have watched a lot of his games on video and saw his performances for the national team in July and agreed he has the physical capabilities to help us.
"He’s very quick and strong."
That is exactly how recruitment should work in this day and age. Boooom! As they say. Very smart, very astute and above all, very patient. Yep, let's crunch the numbers first.
And it's bang on to take a loan and see if he adjusts to life over here before splurgin on a record fee.
In terms of pedigree, on paper (that is a sizeable caveat by the way), it looks as though we now have a stronger squad than last season in terms of depth.
Our options for the front four are bewildering to say the least.
And it's great to see that Ivo offers strength in that 'holding' role. Previously if Ledson had got injured we'd have been wide open.
Just run through two possible Xis in your head. And compare to last term. On paper, we are good to go*
Shearer Tiendalli Martin Raglan Carroll Henry Ivo Rothwell Hall Xemi Obika
Eastwood Ribiero Nelson Williamson Ricardinho Van Kessell Ledson Ruffells Johnson Payne Thomas
*Although not until about October because these folks will need time to settle in. But if Pep is as clever as he dosunds, then the new year might be fun

Hopefully we'll be in the mix for the playoffs over the next month or 2 and then can hopefully kick on when we're a bit more familiar as a team

I have to say, if - and of course it's a big IF - we can get to January within touching distance of the play-offs, we are exceptionally well placed to kick on with another window available and hopefully the bedding in period truly out of the way. We have finally, finally got a proper squad with two players for every position, as well as flexibility in terms of being able to play there or four formations with ease. Even at our best last season we were quite light on numbers, hence running out of steam because rotation options were so minimal. We did very well and finished quite strongly, only missing out by a few small points, but we all knew we were probably two players light by the time the January window slammed shut. It was a good squad but a tight and compact one. This now looks like a good squad with good numbers. Just look at some of the players who, if all fit, wouldn't even be able to make the match day squad. Last season we couldn't actually fill the bench by the end - our last two or three games saw us failing to name seven subs and that was even with one or two kids there to fill it up as it was.
If Cheltenham can prove to be a one off in terms of mentality and attitude, and we can start to fulfil the technical potential we now have... well, somebody start that bloody bus.

I don't want to seem greedy but I wonder if we'll bring in a CB on loan now that Raglan is confirmed to be out for a while.
I rate the lad and am gutted for him.

Suspect we will especially with the record of injuries with Williamson and Martin. Maybe when FAZ mentioned the Prem Academies not wanting to let players go until the end of the window, is when we may possibly see a CB who wants to get out and play FIRST TEAM football.

I hope so, because aside from some of the games I saw him play last season, I've seen him start two games in the last few weeks and we lost the pair of them 4-3. He was utter turd in general in both games, and seemed to badly affect his fellow defenders as well as not being very good himself. It seems a given that even if fit Williamson might not be able to play 40+ games this season, so whoever is third choice will get game time. This would be dangerous with Martin. Furthermore... this is all assuming Nelson stays fit and available. Imagine a world where we have to play Martin every single game bar none, and where Williamson can't even play every game alongside him, because Nelson has done his ligaments and is out for a few months. We would be so, so screwed. Surely we can't even run that risk now that we know Raglan won't be available until almost Christmas?

I can't see any of Henry, Johnson, Van Kessel or Payne being happy coming off the bench
Unless Van Kessel proves he can play as a lone striker we are gonna see one of them leave by January

Maybe it's because I'm nearly sixty, but my brains are scrambled with these new signings. Payne is the dog's bollocks. Whether the others are the dogs' dicks or another bunch of doggie ball bags remains to be seen. But - wow! I'm all of a quiver! Since I've married a Filipina, I've had to learn Tagalog. But I'm f*cked if I'm going to learn Swedish or any of the other new players' lingo! It was bad enough trying to learn Scouse when Lunny and Mac were here!

Don't want to rain on this parade so early on but I just note that, having been reading the comments of Slavia fans (I speak Czech...long story), they are happy to see the back of him. They don't specify why except one poster noted that of all places he could play, England was the least appropriate...Make of that what you will. I am trying to register on the Slavie Fans Forum at the moment (difficult as they require a Czech mobile phone number which I don't have) to ascertain more...

Did you forget we won comfortably at oldham, a league one side, 3 days before that cheltenham game? Maybe the game on Tuesday was a blip maybe it wasn't but to write us off as play off contenders when we have won 1/1 is laughable. Preston beat Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and lost to Accrington Tuesday. I've not been in the Preston forum but I doubt that they are saying they have no reason to play this season and if they can't be Accrington what's the he point. Perhaps give these new players and the management some time to get this right and maybe see where we are in 10/15 games time.
