Or how about also noting that we beat a team that played tactics that we normally struggle with? Oldham were shite last season and we're already doing better. But let's not think things might be good, much easier to come out with pointless sarcastic b*llshit. I'm sorry, what part of my post was b*llshit? Are we not one game in? Do you not think Oldham are a formidable side. Like you just said, they play a style of football which we struggle against. Well all of it really but I think it's reasonable to say Oldham are not formidable (strong odds for relegation too) therefore your second sentence clearly is "b*llshit". Which of course you know, hence it must be sarcastic. Unless you believe they are in which that really questions your nouse. So which is it? By the way your username hardly does you any favours if you wanted to be taken seriously. Which you probably don't.

Have had a play around with the roster image...this focuses more on position and squad (no contract, minutes, age data) Considering this summer we lost: Skarz - 2291 mins Edwards - 3308 mins (3 goals) Dunkley - 3535 mins (3 goals) Sercombe - 2178 mins (3 goals - 5 assists) Lundstram - 3934 mins McAleny - 1288 mins (10 goals) Maguire - 3523 mins (13 goals - 10 assists) I would say we have assembled a decent squad despite the above. We will have to see if we can replace the goals/creativity that we lost in the off season, but Hall/Johnson/Payne/Henry have the potential.

View AttachmentI'd include Rothwell to being a CM as well as a wide player.

I really hope Ribeiro isn't first choice based off of Tuesday.. Tiendalli RB? After one game you are writing him off even though he has had plenty of praise in every other game he has played?
That would be an extremely strong line up for this league IMO.

If so, will be interesting to see how Ricardinho links up with Johnson and van Kessel with Ribeiro (or Tiendalli, who when fit you would hope would put Ribeiro under pressure for the shirt).
Other than that, agree that that is a strong team.

I have to say that I felt a little sorry for Ribeiro on Tuesday. Yes he had a complete mare of a game - it was awful. But his team mates offered nothing to help him. If he ran out of defence with the ball there was a huge hole behind him - I suppose it should have been Rob Hall's role to drop back and cover? That's never going to work - if he tried to play the ball into midfield we were being overrun and none of them seemed to be able to trap a bag of cement, if he tried to go long then there was one up front with no support. In the second half his defensive partner was Martin and I'm not sure that helped at all! He has been much better than that in what little time we have actually seen him previously - you could say the same for virtually everyone on the pitch in a yellow shirt. And at least he kept showing for the ball and didn't hide - which says a lot about his strength of character I think - even though he must have known how badly it was going.

I am amazed that some are writing off after one bad game having done pretty well to date. I went to Bradford away last season for his first full game and he played really well. He did pretty well at Oldham last weekend.

First choice XI now? I am not sure that henry came to be on the bench... Hall, Henry, Rothwell, Hemmings/ Thomas, Carroll, Ruffels and Shearer would not be a bad bench though ...

On paper its a squad full of both potential and quality. If they stay fit, and Pep can get the set up right we could have a Championship team in the making. The one thing i think we all need to be though is patient. Just like we needed to be with MAPP. Its not fair to expect the team to be perfect from day one. It might take a couple of months or more.

With the arrival of Van Kessel I wonder if that is us all but finished, barring any departures. This seems to be where we are at now in terms of squad depth, assuming for the likes of Napa, Stevens, etc. will be sent out on loan. Across the midfield we look very strong with a lot of competition for places. The back four looks the weakest aspect of the team at the moment but it is difficult to judge with a handful of players not match fit yet. Attachments:

First choice XI now? Surely Hall has to play? Been brilliant all pre-season and was probably the only bright spark on Tuesday. Not sure what else he can do!

At least until the latter proves he's better than Hall. Also, if Johnson doesn't start performing better than he has been (ignoring the position he's playing, he should still be able to make ten yard passes), then yes, I'd take Hall over him.

I'd say squad complete now. Clotet has 12 months to make it work and no excuses really. He must at least match last season and that is being generous.

We currently have the second largest squad in L1, just behind Wigan.

I agree that from a squad perspective it should be a it stronger. But it has been a hugely disruptive pre season and a lot of the players are still coming in not match fit. I would expect the start to be extremely inconsistent and then Pep has no excuses. But we may well lose ground at the start of the season. I reckon that matching last season would be a decent achievement.
